Challenge The Hexagon is a well established multi purpose venue, in the heart of Reading that was built in 1977. As well as drama productions, it hosts a range of events such as Dance, Comedy, Classical Music, Rock and Pop concerts. Previously, only a yellow strip was painted on the edge of the concrete steps across the 5 stairways, which meant the potential slip hazard was great.

TVS was tasked with designing a versatile and multi-functional training area to be rolled out across various newXercise4Less sites.The brief was to include an area for sledge work along with floor demarcations for various activities such as walking lunges, sprinting and battle rope exercises.To fulfil this requirement, TVS first created layout plans to fit the space prior to agreeing the final design with the client. Once the design was signed off, TVS set about ordering materials to complete each of the projects. With the subfloor levelled to within an acceptable tolerance, a hard‐wearingmulti‐sports surface TVS Sports Carpet (Green) was bonded to the substrate to create a central lane for pushing and pulling a sledge.Meanwhile, SPORTEC Color‐0 a black recycled rubber floor covering was installed around the outside of this area.To create a 2‐lane running track with 1m markings, white lines were then applied to the black rubber utilising a 2‐part PU paint.The perimeter edge detail was finished with a black uPVC trim, providing a safe and neat transition between the adjacent floor finishes.The workout area is used effectively for training small groups of people as well as one‐to‐one personal training sessions across multiple sites.

The Hilton Garden Inn is a global brand facet of the Hilton Worldwide group, with over 780 locations across the world. In the hotel’s lobby area, LOFT20 single glazed partitioning was installed, reaching 3500mm high. The designs were made to allow for vertical and horizontal polyester powder coated aluminium trims, set at different heights, to compliment the style of the hotel. IsoTec doors were used, reaching 3000mm in height, and the doors included LOFT style aluminium trims, bonded to both sides of the doors, to provide a uniform style throughout.

Stopgap 1200 Pro levelling compound and F46 pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive have led the way in refurbishing floors at Heythrop Park, near Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire, following its acquisition by Warner Leisure Hotels, as part of a four-year, £40 million renovation.Flooring contractors were commissioned to install a range of floorcoverings throughout the site’s public areas, including in the 300-year-old, Grade II-listed manor house, which is set in a 440-acre country estate, as well as the adjoining hotel complex.The project included work in the reception, two ground-floor theatres, bar, restaurant and lounge areas, as well as connecting staircases and corridors, in the modern part of the hotel.Stopgap 1200 Pro high-performance levelling compound was used to raise subfloor levels so that LVT floorcoverings and inlaid carpet would sit perfectly flush with previously installed ceramic tiles, with areas divided by custom-made CAT brass edging strips. Stopgap Micro Rapid fast-setting, fast-drying floor finishing compound was used to address minor subfloor imperfections.Stopgap 1200 Pro was also used to create a perfectly smooth surface for grey loose-lay Forbo Coral carpet tiles in the entranceway of the reception, where heavy-duty made-to-measure Newhay grid entrance well matting was installed.Behind the reception desk, Plusfloor concrete-effect luxury vinyl tiles were installed with Styccobond F46 pressure sensitive adhesive, which provides a high bond strength that increases as it is trafficked, as well as strong initial tack, meaning that tiles or planks won’t move around while working. The indefinite open time offered by the product negates the risk of late placement, another advantage when there’s complex designs and patterns.Contractors installed bespoke Brintons carpet in a small seating area on one side of the reception and in front of the entrances to the larger of the hotel’s two ground-floor theatres and Late Lounge Bar, as well as on the steps and accessibility ramp leading from the reception to the 120m2 area, using a dual bond system. This involved using Styccobond F3 to create a permanent bond between carpet and underlay, with the Styccobond F40 providing a peelable bond between the underlay and subfloor.In the theatre, where guests can enjoy live music, drama and comedy performances, Stopgap 1200 Pro was used to patch repair existing subfloors, including where stanchions had been removed, before installing custom-made dark black and blue Newhay carpet.Bespoke Newhay carpet was also installed in the Late Lounge Theatre, which was also furnished with an Amtico wood-effect LVT dancefloor adhered with Styccobond F46. Styccobond F46 was used to install Harlequin Standfast high-performance vinyl sheet on both of the theatres’ stages.Amtico Signature basketweave, wood-effect LVTs were installed in the Late Lounge Bar up to seating areas with bespoke Newhay carpet and ceramic tiles around the bar, as well as on the steps leading to the Late Lounge Theatre. A feature was created in the centre of the room with a large area of herringbone wood-effect LVTs and a border of Amtico Signature Cirrus Twilight grey planks.Similarly, in the first floor ‘Pub and Kitchen’, Karndean ‘Van Gogh’ salvaged wood-effect LVTs were installed up to the bar area, where a border was created using Karndean ‘riven slate’ grey ‘Knight Tiles’, and areas with tables and chairs, where Alternative Flooring ‘Anywhere Rope’ natural carpet was installed. The LVTs were installed up to ceramic tiles around the bar and seating areas with bespoke Newhay carpet.Plusfloor wood floorcoverings were installed on the main staircase leading from the reception to the first and second floors, extending onto the first floor landing and lounge area, using Styccobond B95.Where there were steps in the areas being renovated, including the main staircase, Stycco Flex rapid-curing, flexible tube adhesive was used to affix custom-made CAT brass stair nosings.

The Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester is a District General Hospital serving much of central Hampshire and is one of three hospitals serving a population of approximately 600,000 across Hampshire and parts of west Berkshire. Just Floors were asked by the Hospital Trust directly to help out with a Health and Safety issue on around 70 steps that are located outside the main Hospital building. The steps run from the car park level that is situated at the top of a hill down to the main hospital building that is on a lower level.

The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh is housed in an imposing neo-classical building and is residence to Scotland’s outstanding national collection of modern and contemporary art. The gallery is open all year round and admission is free so attracts large numbers of visitors. As a public building the safety of those visitors and staff needs to be considered on the stairways. However the style of the interior also needed to be taken into account so it will match up to the building’s heritage and architecture and the art which is it is home to.

Golf was first played here in 1906 and considerable investment was spent converting the old house into an outstanding club house. Recently the golf club had a major building upgrade but still retained the quality that had been set up all those years ago. As part of this refurbishment the central entrance of the golf club required an impressive eye catching finish to their traditional style Victorian staircase with a unique large curved bottom step.

The Newcastle Metrocentre is the largest shopping centre in the European Union containing over 330 stores occupying 194,000 m2.During 2008 and 2009 part of the centre was redeveloped. A.J Wells & Sons were asked to produce a series of vitreous enamelled cylindrical pillars. Enamel was specified due to its longevity, resistance to abrasion and hygienic properties.A.J Wells rolled and fabricated the columns to extreme levels – rarely achieved in enamel cladding. The “Wohnpark in der südlichen Luisenstrasse” residential project was built in Karlsruhe in 2015. At the client’s request, architects AGP Generalplaner GmbH designed the building with enhanced impact sound insulation. Schöck Tronsole® was chosen as the impact sound insulation system for the stairs.Spacious rental and owner-occupied apartments with 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms were designed on a floor area totalling 18,000 m². All of the stairs in the buildings comply with the requirements of soundproofing level III as per VDI 4100 or DEGA class B. Specifically, the measured standard impact sound level of the stairs and landings ranges between 32 dB and 38 dB. These levels are about 10 dB better than the required standard impact sound level of 46 dB. By comparison: A reduction of 10 dB is equivalent to reducing the volume by half. The residents in the complex in Karlsruhe will notice this difference quite clearly. By not being able to impact noise from the stairs. The stairs are soundproofed using Schöck Tronsole® type F on the ceiling slabs while Tronsole® type Z separates the landings from the stairs and outer walls. The supporting element for the Tronsole® type Z was cemented into the 26 cm landing back at the prefabricating plant. Accordingly, the Tronsole® type Z wall element was installed and type F fastened to the landings and stairs on site.
