International Timber was recently approached by Cultivar to supply Accoya timber for the Hampton Court Flower Show.

Located near Taunton, Somerset, the Halcon Centre provides short breaks, with 24-hour professional care, for up to 18 adults who are physically disabled or have sensory loss. SureProtect Design® bespoke wall cladding was installed in the main corridor at the centre featuring a row of imitation panels, that have been designed to look hand-drawn with a marker pen to offer the homely feel the centre was looking for. In addition, the Halcon Centre further increased the corridor walls’ protection by installing Gradus’s CGH5090 High Impact PVC-u Corner Guards and WGS200 Wall Guards, both in colour Gravel.

For Birmingham New Street Station, SAS International designed, manufactured and installed bespoke waveform ceiling solutions. Bespoke ceilings comprising fixed angle bulkheads were installed in line with the curving platforms. The typically trapezoidal bulkheads were bolted end to end in order to form a faceted layout to follow these curves. The SAS International design team was able to rationalise the number of unique panel types down to four. This overcame the driver visibility issue, ensured uncompromised aesthetics and brought costs within budget.

International Timber recently collaborated with Highline Homes to create a development consisting of six residential units, built within a conservation area of Glasgow.

Furnitubes provisioned a number of AKRI raised planter beds for the scheme, the flexibility of the product permitted the creation of a unique stepped solution that was required at specific intervals in the planter to allow for the various changes in levels. A total of 26 meters of AKRI retaining walls were provided in heights of 670mm to accommodate the stepped solution, each planter comprising two internal soil retaining supports to provide increased strength to retain the contents. A return fold with additional anti-skates outlined the rim of the planters to maximise strength and not form a potential harmful edge.

With approximately 20 children and staff onsite during open hours; ensuring complete safety for all parties was a key requisite for the project. Recognised as a leading perimeter security specialist Jacksons were identified as the right company to design and supply both a vertical bar fencing solution and timber palisade alternative for both the perimeter and internal areas of the school. Supplying over 60 x 1m high Sentry fencing, the system was mounted on top of the existing 1m high boundary wall using our bespoke designed cranked fence posts whilst also being stepped to accommodate the sloping ground.

Design and integration of services was a key element to the success of the Lendlease Barangaroo fit-out. SAS International worked alongside both Lendlease and Hassell's project teams to ensure the SAS products integrated into the existing base build ceilings. SAS330, SAS500 and SAS750 were used in the office areas, cafe, lift lobbies and circulation areas.

Chinmaya Mission exists to provide individuals with the wisdom and practical means for personal growth and development, enabling them to become positive contributors to society.  At Chinmaya Kirti, their home in London, a major renovation project was designed as a vision for future generations, rather than just an improved building.Working with architects, KJC, and contractor, Home Republic, Style was specified to be part of that vision, installing moveable walls to enable one large space in the classroom/bookshop area to be easily converted into six multi-functional rooms based on daily requirements. A combination of multiple Dorma Hüppe Variflex Glass and Variflex solid semi-automatic moveable walls were agreed as the best solution, with the glass moveable walls providing a 52dB acoustic barrier and the solid wall 55dB.With a standard anodised aluminium frame finish to the glass walls, and a melamine finish to the solid walls, the final installation provided a light and calm feel to the room design.“This is a great example of how using a combination of glass and solid moveable walls can transform how space is used,” said Michael Porter, sales director for Style South.“The glass moveable walls can combine to create a temporary corridor while the solid moveable walls then segregate the space into smaller individual rooms. Or the Mission can choose a whole range of combinations – from using one glass wall to simply divide the room in two, or to use the walls to provide varying sizes of rooms to suit the requirements of the day.“Such is the quality of the acoustic integrity that multiple events can take place within the segregated rooms without disturbing one another, which was an important factor at the Mission.“By including pass doors also means the moveable walls can remain in place for extended periods and the rooms can be accessed and used with ease.”

Project OverviewThe Percy Gee Building, at Leicester University, is named after a former benefactor and chairman of the former college. Over the last 2-3 years the building has undergone an exciting £13.1 million transformation and expansion. By using Amron Welltec “wave” or “corrugated” profiled aluminium sheet on an interior wall something new and unexpected was injected into the kitchen space. To take this ‘jolt away from the norm’ still further the designers envisaged not shiny metal, but the appearance of weathered and rusted metal – an industrial ‘vibe’ perhaps hinting at determination and hard work.Powdertech Collections includes a range of finishes which replicate patination/rust on metal, giving a ‘Corten’ appearance but with no rusty residue which could mark clothing and other surfaces. The client chose ‘Firebox’ from the Evolution/Rust collection. This gives a very natural ‘rusted’ look with no two panels looking the same. Powdertech applied Firebox to 80 m2 of material which line the walls and over-counter area of the Campus Kitchen.BenefitsEvolution™ Rust finishes can be used internally and also externally. SAS International ceiling rafts were installed into the meeting rooms, directly suspended from the structural soffit to allow for energy efficient movement of air for thermal-mass-cooling. Chosen for its acoustic properties, SAS600 offers acoustic performance tailored to interior requirements through absorptive and reflective techniques. The visually engaging SAS500 was selected for the office zones and circulation areas. This system conceals M&E services and offers an attractive acoustic ceiling. Both systems supplied to the One Molesworth Street project were in a pre-coat timber effect to achieve an organic interior aesthetic, creating a striking feature ceiling.

SAS International delivered standard and bespoke SAS metal ceiling systems to PwC, Manchester. Across the main workspaces, SAS330 was installed presenting a pristine and uniform aesthetic which contributes to the open-plan design. For the communal area, bespoke hexagonal SAS600 rafts were designed and manufactured to protect the specified lights. SAS810 Tricell was installed in the break-out area contributing to the sleek and intelligent design. Further floors were completed in early 2019 which introduced SAS330 Mesh in 12 meeting rooms. This striking people-centric office space has won the Fit Out of Workplace Award at the BCO Awards.

SAS International collaborated with architects TP Bennett to deliver metal ceiling solutions to meet CBRE’s unique demands on this CAT B fit-out. SAS330i LED noggin lights were selected to provide a seamless butt-joint solution between panels and gridwork. This effect ensures there are no gaps between light and ceiling. Manufactured from extruded aluminum profiles, each light was polyester powder-coated at SAS’s factory to ensure flawless colour consistency across the space. Delivering a complex fit-out on time and to specification, SAS delivered a striking feature ceiling that has transformed the office space for the client.

The Kia Oval, also known as 'The Oval' is an iconic 25,500 capacity international cricket ground of both modern and historical significance. A new three-storey spectator stand and two new roof terraces form part of the master plan to expand the grounds and increase its capacity to 28,000. Over 15,000 Ryno paving pedestals were used across the space.

Skyfold has announced that Prisma is available in a variety of materials including glass, frosted glass and solid panels, with almost any combination being possible. Solid elements can be finished in fabric, vinyl, paint, laminate or even marker-board, allowing a true showcase feature to be created that is both superbly aesthetic as well as highly functional.

Project: Muscat International Airport, Muscat/Oman, Oman

High quality wooden gates can make a real statement at the entrance to your home, that is as long as they are protected with a high quality finish and looking great! These Iroko gates are making the right kind of statement with some top quality TLC and a beautiful finish provided by D1 Pro and Owatrol Deco.The Iroko gates in this case study had previously been coated with Danish Oil. It was now not making the right kind of statement and definitely needed to be stripped before a new finish could be applied. Roger at R & A Pressure Washing Services Ltd. set to work stripping the gates using Prepdeck.If your gates are remaining in-situ throughout the project then you’ll need to use Aquanett (for wood oils) or Dilunett (for paints and other finishes) as they are gel formulations which won’t run. In this case, the gates were removed so they could be laid flat for the application of Prepdeck.To use Prepdeck simply apply it to the surface with a brush and leave it to work for an appropriate length of time. When the coatings are lifting scrub the surface and rinse with water to remove the residue. You should then immediately neutralise the surface of the wood with Net-Trol. Roger then left it to dry and then lightly sanded the surface with a 60 grit orbital sander for a super smooth finish – this step is not essential though.Using D1 Pro to protect Iroko GatesWhen Roger had completed the preparation of the gates it was time to apply the D1 Pro. D1 Pro’s place is inside the wood, where it saturates it, feeding the wood with oil to replace those lost. It drives out moisture and air, filling the woods pores with oil, and enriches and stabilises it to provide long lasting protection with high UV resistance. D1 Pro enhances the natural beauty of the wood whilst being easy to maintain, requiring no sanding or stripping.D1 Pro is applied ‘wet-on’wet’ which means that you apply coats one after the other without allowing the oil to dry in between and continue until the wood is saturated and will take no more oil. To apply D1 Pro you start by applying a first generous coat. Work in areas that can be coated in 15 minutes. Allow time for it to be absorbed into the surface (15-30 minutes). Apply a second application as soon as the first has been absorbed. Allow to dry.Continue in this way until the wood will not accept any more oil, i.e. it is saturated. Then wipe off any excess to avoid shiny spots, you should be left with a rich matt finish. Work like this in sections to prevent the surface from becoming touch dry in between coats. Roger needed 3 coats of D1 Pro for his iroko gates.Using Owatrol Deco to protect metal work on wooden gatesRoger then used Owatrol Deco, our rust-inhibiting multi-surface primer and finish. This enabled him to have a high gloss black finish which would also provide long-term protection against corrosion and the effects of the weather. The Owatrol Deco is applied in 2 coats, allowing the first coat 24 hours to dry before applying the second.We think you’ll agree, it’s a pretty big transformation and these gates are now making the right kind of statement!

Project: Manufacture and installation of bespoke concrete cladding in a high-tech media room. The design comprised of floating 3D concrete seat wrapped around the fire place and individually sized concrete panels for chimney breast, wall, floor and ceiling. All panels were fitted using mechanical and chemical fixings.Client: Tigg & Coll Architects  Materials used: Large format Plain and GAP GRC panels in Rough Mist finish and sealed with hydrophobic agent and clear sealant.On this challenging project we worked closely with Tigg & Coll Architects to manufacture and supply bespoke concrete cladding for new multipurpose media room.The large format bespoke Plain and GAP concrete panels were cast to the client’s individual and unique specifications using our BTX Ultra High Performance Concrete mix with a hydrophobic agent to limit moisture absorption. The panels were cut to fit around the fireplace, floor, walls and ceiling and then treated and sealed to make them stain proof.The finished effect is a modern, industrial look that complements client’s design style and creates a truly unique and highly relaxing space.

RIBA STIRLING PRIZE WINNER, Evelyn Grace Academy in Brixton South London, benefits from the flowing façade integrating seamlessly with Sotech's Optima IPC Cladding. The external facades of the academy, designed by award wining architect Zaha Hadid, feature flying angles and oblique lines and, to maximise external space the building bridges, a full-length running track. The internal design generates natural patterns of division within highly functional spaces to create four small schools within the whole, each with its own identityIn addition to partnering with the specialist contractor McMullen to identify the optimum solution for the fixing components, a scaled mock-up incorporating the Sotech Optima IPC interlocking plank system, finished to the specification required, was built on site incorporating two sections of the building integrated into the glazed curtain wall. This level of detailing provided the contractor and the architect with the reassurance that the rainscreen system, and the specified colour and finish, would meet the performance and design requirements of the project.The Optima IPC system has been independently tested by Vinci, including both horizontal and vertical planks in the material and finish specified for the Evelyn Grace Academy together with a number of other finishes including copper, aluminium and zinc. Achieving 2Kn serviceable load, the system successfully met the rigorous test requirements.The specification of the highly engineered Optima IPC for the £37.5 million Academy resulted in the bespoke manufacture of each panel, many incorporating complicated angles and tapered corners in two directions, each with a 5mm shadowgap and secret fix joint. Curved soffits and cills completed the package, which totalled in excess of 1500sqm of Optima IPC.

THE PROJECTThe Tapestry project is a high-end residential development located in the heart of King’s Cross, London. The area is home to internationally renowned St. Pancras Station and Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, and is in the midst of a major urban redevelopment.The Tapestry building was designed by Niall McLaughlin Architects who have created a clear relationship between the internal and external areas of the building, with breath-taking views over Gasholder Park, Regent’s Canal and the city of London beyond.The project is influenced by the heritage of the King’s Cross area, reflected in the refined interiors meticulously created using a combination of the finest materials hand-picked by interior design architects Johnson Naylor, and the design and layout of the mailboxes and their location was no exception.THE PRODUCTOur mailboxes were designed to blend into the background of the reception lobby area with a clean elegant finish, configured into a visually interesting layout staggering each vertical column of mailboxes.The mailboxes are located in the reception lobby area of the project where residents will walk through to access their apartments. The model of mailbox used in the project was chosen for its minimalistic and flexible design proven on other notable projects in London such as the Fitzroy Place building.The NW2 mailbox is a horizontal product which is perfect for projects requiring a high quantity of mailboxes in an area with a restricted height. The banks of mailboxes have been recessed into the wall, which ensured that there was maximum room for residents to access their mail whilst other building users had unobstructed access in the area.The mailboxes are finished in a special matt finish which compliments the finish of the reception area. The door of each mailbox has been engraved with a bespoke font and infilled gold – matching the brief of the project.

Wood finish powder coating to realise vision of a timber facade Overview A brand-new Skills and Innovation Centre has been added to the Earl Street/Broad Street elevation of the South Staffordshire College’s campus, a £28million project. This 7,500 sq metre, 3 storey building will house leading-edge construction, engineering and hybrid vehicle technology workshops, along with innovatively designed social spaces. The building takes pride of place on the college’s town centre site and a suitably striking external envelope has been planned. The architects’ envisaged a facade of long vertical fins giving the appearance of timber. This would also screen a roof-top substation from view. The Project Maple Sunscreening won the contract to supply the extensive vertical fin façade and proposed using lightweight aluminium instead of timber to achieve the of span required. This project is a perfect example of one of the key advantages of PWF on aluminium, over wood, namely the ability to accomplish very long spans with structural integrity. Powdertech Wood Finish (PWF ™) was selected as the most appropriate powder coating since it is formulated to match the natural variations in colour, grain density and grain pattern of wood. Importantly, PWF meets fire reaction classification A2-s1, d0. The client selected the preferred shade from our collection and the aluminium extrusions began to arrive at our plant. We coated 4000 metres of aluminium, comprising mainly rectangular sections of extruded aluminium, of sizes 200mm and 100mm x 50mm. To achieve their vision, they enlisted the services of David Lamb Architectural Services to submit a Planning Application on their behalf, seeking approval for a modification from an existing apex roof design to a curved roof. After going through the rigorous process, the application successfully obtained full Planning Committee approval on 14 February 2017.To realise their desired construction, Woodholm’s owners had a preference for using wood and oak, aiming to incorporate these elements into the design. To accomplish this, they collaborated with Carpenter Oak Woodland, a renowned timber construction company known for their expertise in oak framed structures. The company skillfully designed an oak framed structure that perfectly met the owners’ requirements. By mid-November 2017, Woodholm had a stunning and aesthetically pleasing frame in place.However, finding an ideal roofing solution proved to be a challenging task for Woodholm. Initially considering a zinc roof, they encountered obstacles due to the prohibitive costs and the challenges posed by their maritime environment, as Woodholm is located directly on the shores of the Solway Firth. It was at this point that David Lamb’s initial positive impression of a roofing product caught their attention. Woodholm’s owners approached Polyroof’s simulated metal finishes with their needs and were introduced to the Polyroof technical team. The team guided them through the necessary technical specifications to meet the Scottish Building Warrant for a Warm Roof, ensuring compliance with the required standards.Fortuitously, Woodholm’s owners discovered that Polyroof would be exhibiting at the “Homebuilding & Renovating Show” from 21-22 October 2017. At the event, they had the opportunity to meet the Polyroof team as well as Contractor, Kenny Scott of LK Roofing, Lochmaben. The Woodholm team was highly impressed and reassured by the collective experience, knowledge, and technical expertise demonstrated by Polyroof and LK Roofing. Equally important, they appreciated their ability to attentively listen to and understand their concerns.Following the show, a site meeting was promptly arranged with LK Roofing, allowing all parties to discuss the project in detail. As a result, a comprehensive and competitive quotation was provided, falling comfortably within Woodholm’s budgetary requirements.By early December 2017, Woodholm’s joiner had installed the sub-decking, which served as the foundation for the roofing system. LK Roofing then expertly applied the Alutrix membrane, a high-quality waterproofing layer, providing Woodholm with a watertight working cover.Thanks to our collaborative efforts with Woodholm, the project achieved a seamless integration of their desired curved roof design, wood and oak elements, and our advanced liquid roofing system. Kingspan Light + Air worked on project jewel at Changi International Airport in Singapore. One of the most innovative project features is the distinctive dome-shaped facade, made entirely of glass and steel. Our team worked with the architects and project team to specify and install over 100 Lumera ventilation windows. The Lumera ventilation windows also operate as an integral element of a wider Smoke and Heat Exhaust Vent (SHEV) system.

Combining various types of moveable wall within the same building is fast becoming the latest trend for architects aiming to create the ultimate flexible space solution. One recent example is the London offices of Anglo American, a leading global mining company, where partitioning experts Style installed a complex arrangement of moveable wall systems to divide a single large space into four individual rooms.To achieve the level of adaptability required, Style utilised both solid and glass Dorma Hüppe Variflex semi-automatic moveable walls, as well as vertically rising, fully automatic Skyfold Classic 60 moveable walls.This combination enables the entire space to be re-configured quickly into smaller or larger meeting rooms, with the 57dB acoustic rating of the solid moveable wall, 52dB of the glass moveable wall and 59dB of the Skyfold delivering such an exceptional sound barrier that all rooms can host busy meetings without causing any disturbance between them.Anglo American is a leading global mining company whose products are the essential ingredients in almost every aspect of modern life. Beacon House is a landmark 1850s Grade II listed building in Clifton, Bristol. Acquired by the University in 2014, it has undergone a complete redevelopment, transforming it into a state-of-the- art central study and learning hub with a new public reception point for the University, and a stylish café. London Wall Place is a new development, with more than 500.000m2, located in the heart of London, between Moorgate and Barbican. This development is comprised by two commercial buildings and will add a large green area to the city. The largest building has about 300.000m2 and rises to a height of 12 floors, and the remaining building, with about 12.000m2, has 16 floors. For this project’s façade weatherproofing, three Effisus solutions were used: Effisus VAP (vapour barrier), Effisus Breather+ (breathable membrane) and Effisus 2Bond DS (double-sided solution for sealing between two surfaces).

Gradus has supplied and installed a range of bespoke wall protection solutions throughout the new Same Day Emergency Care building at the Countess of Chester Hospital. Fitted by the Gradus Contracts Team, the system includes wall guards, corner guards and combination handrails.
