Huddersfield Leisure Centre is a £36 million complex delivered by BAM Construction as part of an expansive regeneration plan for the town. Tobermore supplied a large quantity of Mayfair Flags and Mayfair Step Flags in sparkling Silver for the pedestrian areas around the sports and leisure facility.

Forth Valley College; included teaching spaces, lecture theatres, and catering facilities. Specified was two Acoustic Products systems being Laudescher Linea 2.6.8 and Linea 2.9.28. To combat sound reverberation, increase speech clarity and to lower the sound pressure levels.

This Edge Grove School had our Laudescher system that will not only work as an absorbing surface but also diffusing the sound waves to insure better room acoustics. This will create lower sound reverberation and lower sound pressure levels which will aid speech intelligibility.

This Edge Grove School has used the Laudescher2.4.3 system that will not only work as an absorbing surface but also works at diffusing the sound. Along with the great acoustic properties the Linea range also adds to the natural aesthetics.

The Stress Research Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, conducted a study with Ecophon in a real-life office environment to examine how sound affects people in open-plan offices. During the study the sound environment went from poor to good and back to poor again.

Islwyn High in Caerphilly is an ambitious project to amalgamate two former schools in a new purpose-built development. Part of the 21st Century School Programme across Wales, the impressive three storey building comprises a range of modern teaching spaces, an amphitheatre, technology workshops and science labs. A variety of Rockfon® acoustic ceiling tiles are installed throughout the school to control noise and harmonise with the contemporary interior.

Festool, a premium brand Power tool manufacturer, has recently refurbished their UK head office to create a healthy acoustic environment. ROCKFON® Tropic™ ceiling tiles were chosen to replace the dated wet felted tiles. ROCKFON Tropic is perfect for a busy office environment offering the highest Class A sound absorption to reduce reverberation and an outstanding fire safety rating, A1. A robust ceiling tile which is easy to clean with a vacuum. It is available in a range of sizes and installation options including semi-concealed and visible grid tiles giving architects the freedom to design offices to any configuration.

Delivered under the 21st Century Schools and Education Programme, the new Caldicot School building in Monmouthshire offer the innovative and flexible learning facilities demanded by a contemporary secondary school. There are spacious classrooms, a multi-use hall, theatre-style learning areas and studio spaces for students to study informally. The building is designed to be energy efficient and natural light has been optimised throughout. Monmouth Comprehensive is equipped with state of the art facilities. Rockfon acoustic products play a pivotal role in both schools by creating stimulating learning environments that are at the heart of the architect’s vision.

Leeds City College, the third largest further education college in the UK, has opened a new city-centre campus to offer modern-day vocational study programmes. The campus is a £14 million new build extension and refurbishment of a Grade II listed building into a state-of-the-art specialist vocational centre with training kitchens, a commercial training restaurant, hair and beauty teaching facilities and commercial salons as well as a refectory, library and student services. Being a refurbishment project, the build had a number of challenges.

Weaponness Park in Scarborough has been transformed into a £15million development comprising an improved community leisure centre, a new stadium for Scarborough Athletic Football Club, a University Technical College and a satellite campus for Coventry University. Willmott Dixon were appointed by Scarborough Borough Council. The ground is next to the new UTC and Coventry University Scarborough Campus, a purpose-built campus with library, IT suites, café, mock law court, engineering and science labs. Rockfon worked successfully with Willmott Dixon and FaulknerBrowns to establish a fully compliant range of acoustic ceiling solutions that meet or exceed performance specifications in all buildings.

Yeoman Shield FalmouthEX Wall Panels in Red, Stainless Corner Angles, Special Timber Pattress (covered in Black PVC), Duo Fender (Black with Red inner) and Stainless Steel Footrail were supplied and installed throughout the Mount Pleasant depot. D Fender and a Special Pattress Duo Fender along with HD100(H) High Vis Heavy Duty Corner Protection were installed in the van delivery and collection loading bay.

The combination of a DYNAMIK sprung, high compression, comfort based undercarriage finished in a solid (non-foam backed) vinyl provides high levels of indentation resistance from tables, chairs or play equipment typically seen in Primary or Junior Schools. The feeling of comfort is achieved by the flexibility of the new DYNAMIK Sprung base and not the top playing surface as the Vinyl is solid, therefore will not indent or tear when a point or rolling load is applied. The DYNAMIK Sports Vinyl in wood effect is easy to clean, combating drink or food spillages.

Providing great foundations for their aspiring sports stars, Mark Rutherford School chose a new DYNAMIK sports floor. With an emphasis on encouraging sport, Robina Garner, School Business Manager, expressed delight at the end result: “The new Sports Hall floor will support the practical sporting excellence that we deliver at the school. The University of Bath has gained the reputation of being a highly ambitious and successful university when it comes to sport. Alongside students the England Netball team use the sport facilities by making it one of their Intensive Netball Training Centres. They chose a DYNAMIK area elastic sprung floor system finished in Canadian Maple. Named as UK Top University of the Year 2018, the University of Bath has excelled by supporting athletes to Olympic level.

DYNAMIK got a glimpse of royalty as HRH The Duke of Kent opened Esher C of E High School’s new sports hall. The sports hall itself has been designed to include a sprung wooden floor and accommodates sports such as Badminton, Volleyball, Basketball, Netball, 5 a-side football, cricket nets, and archery, ranging from community to international standards. The choice of flooring for such a highly ambitious sporting school was the DYNAMIK Helsinki system with a European Oak hardwood surface.

This wonderful education project utilised our design and acoustic properties to create a fantastic feel and look.to the auditorium.

A new state-of-the-art business incubation building in Dorset has been completed with the use of an integrated package of Sto thermal insulation and external render and paint products. The company’s StoTherm Vario and StoTherm Classic insulation systems were specified for the new Innovation Studio at the Arts University Bournemouth, along with StoSilco exterior render and StoColor Dryonic façade paint.

Architecture & design practice KSS redesigned the changing suite for Premier League Southampton FC. Rockfon® Mono® Acoustic was chosen to help ensure the perfect environment for pre-match preparedness. KSS Michael McCollum, “Excellent acoustics are fundamental to creating the right atmosphere, and good speech intelligibility is critical. Finishes are necessarily of resistant materials, so a class A acoustic absorber was required. Rockfon was specified by KSS as it was able to conform to the curvilinear geometry of the room. Following a €12million restoration, iconic Dublin landmark Bewley’s Grafton Street, has reopened to offer seating for 500. The Lantern is the result of a wholesale redevelopment and reimagining of a large eight story building in Euston, Central London. Developer owners Lazari Investments have worked with Marks Barfield Architects to create a stunning scheme which successfully meets the current desire for built inner city environments to offer contemporary and elegant work space alongside areas designed for leisure, relaxation and retail therapy.Rockfon were very pleased to be specified for the project which offers 23,000m2 of mixed-use space including offices, café’s, shops and apartments. David Booth of the specialist firm spoke about the project, “We are proud of the work we’ve carried out at The Lantern, which presented a number of challenges associated with the myriad of services and fittings which go to make-up sophisticated contemporary mixed-use architecture. “The grid work and Mono Acoustic were installed to a wide variety of abutments in spaces throughout the building including within the large atrium, working around the many finishes and fire curtains to the front face of the lobby and glazed screens to either end. Fitting the ceiling to accommodate a stunning feature Italian light fitting suspended from 130 rods fixed to the structural slab called for exacting tolerances and really demonstrated the system’s versatility.”Seamless performanceMono is a ground-breaking product which combines a seamless ceiling with high performance characteristics. Designed by IBI Group, construction of the 7000sqm. Barnsley Blood Centre, was commissioned under the DoH and Social Care’s ProCure 22 Framework. The Glucksman Library at the University of Limerick is one of the biggest campus libraries in Ireland and one of the most digitally advanced in the world. The €30m project includes a 7,600sqm extension and new facilities that offer students advanced computing, collaboration and communication spaces. Lambton House Care Home in County Durham, has taken extreme care in designing a home that caters for the lifestyle of their older generation clients. Creating beautiful décor, relaxing lounges and spacious light living areas which are constantly maintained and cleaned to a high level.With the hygienic concerns that have been magnified with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, as part of their infection control improvement projects, Lambton House connected with Yeoman Shield to carry out the replacement of damaged wooden handrails with a PVCu alternative.The wooden handrails not only looked unsightly but were becoming a problem when it came to the care home’s thorough cleaning regime.With the varnish peeling and cracks and dents forming, a perfect haven was being developed for the incubation of bacteria & viruses, that were difficult for cleaning cloths etc. to get into.Yeoman Shield supplied their Guardian 50 mm diameter handrails as a hygienic alternative replacement.Manufactured from a rigid PVCu the handrail is resilient to abrasion and impact damage preventing scratches and scrapes that can promote the growth of bacteria.The warm-to–the-touch circular handrail has a non-porous surface which is easy to clean and can be wiped down with commercial strength cleaner without affecting the colour or finish of the product.Yeoman Shield Guardian 50mm Diameter handrail is available in a choice of colours that easily dovetail into existing or new décor schemes helping to achieve a warm and homely, less sterile, ambience.Lambton House added colour strips, in dementia friendly colours, to sit behind the rails as part of the pathfinding scheme throughout, assisting residents in locating their bedrooms and other services around the building.Lambton House Infection Control Project Manager, Glen Pickering stated“Infection Prevention and Control is of paramount importance to all of us here at Lambton House.“We are delighted to have partnered with Yeoman Shield for the upgrade of our handrails throughout the care home. These door products will protect the lower part of the doors from impact damage which can be caused by trolleys, wheeled equipment and the movement of residents and staff around the building.

An environmentally-friendly hard landscaping material was absolutely essential for this project and Tobermore provided the perfect solution. The University won a RIBA East award for its architectural excellence following this scheme.

The Ada Benson Centre for Sixth Form and the Arts used our Topakustik 29/3M system has been utilised to assist the foyer, atria and circulation system to combat Sound Propagation, Reverberation and Sound Pressure levels in line with the Building Bulletin 93.

The Rock is a 1.6million sq/ft mixed use development aimed at regenerating the town centre of Bury. The £350million project includes shops, restaurants, cinema, bowling alley, parking space and residential units. Lang+Fulton supplied 300 sq/m of custom-sized panels and 20 sets of doors to secure and ventilate the street-front elevations of the electricity sub-stations. These were made to fit the structural openings with concealed ancillary steelwork. Italia-100 steel louvred material was chosen for its vandal-resistant properties and was also impenetrable to any abuse from a foreign object.2.8m high Italia-80 was also used in the car park as an internal visual screen separating vehicle access from a service road. In addition 160m of 2.8m high Stereo grating panels were installed on the upper levels of the car park around plant areas and emergency exits.

Owned and managed by Eton College, Dorney Lake is a world-class sporting and events venue with an inspiring Olympic heritage – the GB rowing team won 12 medals in London 2012. The Lake’s Boathouse function room offers magnificent meeting facilities and is the perfect place for events and conferences. Rockfon Mono Acoustic was installed here to create a unique ‘wave’ ceiling design inspired by the waterside view.

Architecture and design practice KSS Associate, Trevor Gidlow commented, “We were commissioned by interior fit-out specialists, Portview, to review various ceiling systems for application within Coal Drops Yard. Five were reviewed including monolithic and stretched fabric systems. Our assessment criteria included - appearance, sustainability, acoustic class, fire resistance, combustibility, weight, installation angle and curved edge profiles. Rockfon® Mono® Acoustic was our final recommendation and main contractor selection based on the ability to install as a multi-gang operation, thereby gaining significant programme benefits. The appearance of the installation fully achieved the original design vision”.

The Dyson Institute has been established with the ambition of being the best higher education engineering institution in the world. The campus radiates around the two-storey Roundhouse where 220 panels of Rockfon Eclipse® ceiling islands are installed. World leading architectural practice Wilkinson Eyre designed and oversaw the project. Rockfon brings the Wow and the Ssh to Sheffield Hallam Adsetts Library Rockfon welcomed the challenge of collaborating to conceive a ground-breaking acoustic ceiling installation that not only looks great but controls sound beautifully, helping create the perfect environment for students to read and study in. Sheffield Hallam University appointed an alliance team to undertake their larger scale construction works over for the next six years, in partnership with BDP Architects, BAM Construction and CBRE Facilities Management. Adsetts Library – a vital resource and haven The library provides an impressive, balconied, multi-storey focal point for students and staff, to educate, learn, read and study in a variety of open plan and more formal spaces. Traditionally the library also provides a haven where a certain hush can be relied on by its thousands of users – something Rockfon understands the mechanics and science of more than most. BAM invited installation specialists Brebur to find a solution to the university’s needs at the library. In turn, they, approached Rockfon in order to explore options and generate plans to design and install a replacement, taking in to consideration site access and the library’s vast height, inclines and span, alongside the need to retain services for students and staff. Brainstorming a bespoke solution Brebur Commecial Director, Tommy Burke, talked about the project, “Working with the Hallam alliance team, BAM construction and our supply chain partners, Rockfon, we looked for the structural and aesthetic solution that would best fulfil the acoustic requirements. Brainstorming sessions resulted in a unique specification that would ‘tick all the boxes’ whist also improving the efficiency and performance of the building.” Rockfon Technical Manager, Tim Spencer, recalls the development and specification process, “Initially we looked at options for traditional wire-suspended ceiling islands, but these were quickly discounted due to the available space for fixing and the varying pitch of the structure. Fortunately, Rockfon had developed an innovative new direct fixing system for its Rockfon Eclipse® Islands, for use in situations of restricted height. Even so, installing islands at pitches of 45 and 60 degrees was new territory. Thoughts then turned to designing a system of grid steelwork to successfully fix the islands, which would handle the loads over a 3m span, whilst also subsequently accommodating lighting specified by the client. The answer proved to be our Chicago MetallicTM 55mm structural ‘I’ profiles positioned at 600mm centres, fixed with a unique combination of U-bolts and bracketry.” Due to the library ordinarily being open 24/7, the first national lockdown in early 2020, offered an opportunity to carry out the necessary works while the space was being less utilised. Following complete removal of the existing panels and substrate, work began to install the Rockfon scheme. The perfect fit for a unique space Around 400 1170mm x 1160mm Eclipse islands were installed throughout the library’s vast, multi-faceted space, which is four storeys high at its apex. Clear glazed roof sections to one side allow natural light to flood in and reflect against the smooth, deep-matt, super white surface of the Eclipse islands which provide high light reflection and light diffusion. Eclipse islands can be specified in a variety of shaped formats with bespoke colour matching options. They provide superior sound absorption and reduce reverberation – allowing design freedom without compromising on performance. All Rockfon ranges are made from non-hygroscopic, non-combustible, stone wool, which is impervious to most environmental pressures, embodying very high humidity resistance, up to 100% RH. Their anti-static surfaces repel dirt while providing no sustenance to harmful micro-organisms such as mould and fungi, playing an important role in limiting the spread of bacteria.
