A complete wall protection system from Gradus has been installed at the newly refurbished Lysholm Department of Neuroradiology at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN). Supplied and fitted by the Gradus Contracts Team, the system includes wall guards, corner guards, kickplates and bollards from the stainless steel range, plus handrails from the 450 timber range, which is designed to meet guidelines in Approved Document M, BS8300:2009+A1:2010 and HBN00-04.

Google is the company that redefined what a modern work space should look like and the Asia Pacific headquarters is no exception. It is a vast expanse of green, steel and light coloured wood, with fixtures that take their names after regional landmarks, including those in the Philippines. The Asia Pacific headquarters houses employees from a number of its portfolio products such as YouTube. Lorient’s Batwing® acoustic and smoke perimeter seals and the popular LAS8012 si drop seals were specified.

ASF have for decades been supplying the supermarket chain Morrisons with a host of external furniture and fittings. From the very beginning ASF were specified as manufacturers for the M Logo Cast Iron Bollards, still in use today on their heritage stores. In this example the bollards were converted into railings, allowing the supermarket retain their corporate branding whilst creating a site perimeter. ASF are also specified on the stainless steel and recycled plastic products seen at Morrisons stores.

Drawings of these decorative grilles were supplied to ASF as proposed designs. ASF then specified these up including all manufacturing techniques and grade of bronze. Grilles were waterjet profiled and mounted on ladder frames, with a hidden steel support plate beneath to support the malleable bronze. PB102/EW541K bronze was chosen, a grade of bronze known for high fatigue strength and ductility. The end result is a stunning tree grille that will patina over time, getting better year on year.

Villa Wippermann in Halver, Germany is an old factory owner’s beautiful villa, originally belonging to the Wippermann family, built back in 1892. The old villa was renovated to serve as a regional museum and a cultural meeting place. The fire protection and heritage conservation requirements, in particular, presented a demanding challenge to the planners of the escape routes and escape staircases. Space-saving design was required, while creating a staircase system without any additional connection to the building (no transfer of forces into the historical building structure). The architectural appearance of the building also had to be preserved in the best possible way, and safe use by visitors had to be guaranteed in the event of an emergency.The criteriaThe client, City of Halver, involved experts, architects and engineers in the make-over of the museum. The project had a significant focus on safety in case of fire or other events that need safe evacuation. The parties involved required a spiral staircase as a fire escape solution, to be installed without causing any damage to the building.Minimum strainThe engineer and architect were both very aware of the fact that various environmental conditions such as wind and vibrations can cause too much load, leading to damage to the building.DesignAs stated in the project criteria, the architectural heritage of the building had to be preserved. This called for a safe but well-designed spiral staircase, fitting into the environment and to the unique architecture of the building and maintaining the appealing aesthetics of the Villa Wippermann museum.The solutionBased on these project criteria, PcP delivered a proposal that presented a safe and secure spiral staircase for the museum. The project architects and the planners from the building and heritage authorities accepted the proposal.Spiral staircase made of galvanised steelA complete spiral staircase system was designed and tailor-made to support the unique criteria of the project. A large steel pipe at the centre of the staircase provided solid support to the entire structure. A slim handrail system followed the spiral shape of the staircase. All details and products were made of galvanised steel, matching the architectural and aesthetical look of the building. The staircase links the historical building together with modern architecture.The staircase was designed by PcP and manufactured using modern industrial production methods, combined with handmade finishes and details.OPTIMO® steel treads and gratingsThe PcP OPTIMO® O3 spiral treads and gratings were used for treads and landings, providing safety in terms of optimal slip resistance, capacity and fire proofing. The high and certified slip resistance according to evaluation group R13/V10 and the limited views below allow even people with a fear of heights to walk safely. The surface of OPTIMO® O3 flooring delivers the very best drainage of liquids.The resultAs a result of the strong collaboration between architects, structural engineers and planners from heritage protection and fire protection, a safe, solid and aesthetically pleasing spiral staircase now compliments the museum.Today, Villa Wippermann museum stands as a harmonious building with a perfect balance between modern and old architecture in beautiful surroundings.

Floor Painters Limited, have used UltraFloor to complete a 2,100 sqm industrial flooring project at a historic steel forge.Experienced industrial flooring experts, Floor Painters Limited, have used a number of UltraFloor materials to complete a 2,100 sqm industrial flooring project at a historic steel forge in Lincoln.BackgroundBuilt over 100 years ago, the existing floors in the steel forge were damaged and unsafe. After careful consideration, it became clear that replacing the original concrete floor was not a practical option in terms of time and cost.The ChallengeThe steel forge remained fully operational throughout the project and so the challenge was to find a range of flooring materials perfectly suited for industrial use and that could be trafficked quickly so as not to disrupt any work being carried out.The SolutionWith decades of expertise, Floor Painters Limited knew UltraFloor materials were key to a successful outcome.After removing the damaged concrete floor, the concrete substrate was sealed using UltraFloor Prime IT Multi-surface Primer. Formulated to promote adhesion to all UltraFloor smoothing underlayments, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer is pigmented pink for excellent coverage control and is proven to reduce pinholing, minimising the risk of costly failures. With a coverage rate of 200sqm at 3:1 dilution, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer is a must-have product for all flooring installation projects.The following day, Level IT Base was applied, via pump, at an average depth of 50mm. Level IT Base is a heavy duty, deep fill smoothing underlayment, formulated to build depths of up to 50mm thickness. Level IT Base also boasts a high compressive strength – an important requirement for all industrial flooring applications.Once Level IT Base had cured, Level IT Top was pump applied to an average depth of 10mm and left to cure. Ideal for use with Level IT Base, Level IT Top is a heavy duty, abrasive resistant surface finish, designed for use as a wear surface, and can receive forklift traffic after only 36 hours – the ideal product for warehouses and manufacturing facilities where downtime is not an option!Both Level IT Top and Level IT Base can be pump or trowel applied for ease of application, are moisture tolerant, have a 30-40 minute working time and can receive foot traffic after just 3 hours.To complete the installation, the cured floor was then prepared by industrial grinding before the application of two coats of a solvent free epoxy coating – resulting in a flat, hard-wearing, safe and fit for purpose floor.ResultsThe project was completed in six stages, over 36 days, carrying out between 300 and 500 sqm a day, depending on the work space made available. Aston University invested in developing the campus. This project was to add more seating areas to the external spaces on the campus to encourage use by the students. Artform were approached to supply a bespoke stainless steel seating design. The bespoke elliptical benches were designed to have a wing profile rather than a flat surface for improved comfort. Some Standard seating was also requested and the Libre Seating was chosen as it showed consistency with the rest of the project. The main courtyards within the university campus are now frequently used.

Eagle were chosen to provide two PAS68 Gate to a high security site located in the South East. The specification required an airlock system rated to withstand a HVM impact of 50mph and 7500kg. The outer gate was 3m high clad in solid steel whilst the inner was 3m high with 358 mesh. The re-development by Liveman Properties has converted the Dock Office into a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, with an additional 14 new duplex apartments constructed on the existing building roof. DV Architects, Liverpool, specified Technal’s MX Toggle Glazing curtain walling for the steel frame extension and Technal FY65 windows. Architect Billy Hodge commented, “The Dock Office is a local heritage asset and great care has been taken to make sure that the character of the building is not altered.

The Mediacité shopping center is one of the biggest in Belgium with a surface of more than 160.000 m². The concept of the building opened to the public was realized by the famous architect-designer Ron Arad and by Jaspers-Eyers architects. The shopping mall gallery measure 450 meters long and is characterized by an impressive wave glass roof that formed interlaced steel bands. Barrisol Laqué® "Rouge grenat" revitalizes the movements of this band on all its length, as well as in the center by dressing some rhombuses.

No kitchen is ever complete without the sink and tap, and on a high-end project such as The Atelier in London, it was important that the sinks, just as every area of the design, were of the highest specification. Hopkins Architects, who worked on the project on behalf of house builder Regal-London, chose the Abode R15 stainless steel sink to achieve the brief. With the manufacturer’s Althia designer brassware being the perfect match, this sink and tap pairing were supplied for use across all of the 43 boutique apartments in West Kensington.

Designed by Hawkins/Brown, Phase 1 of Salford Central consists of two towers linked by an angled podium, helping to create a distinct and dynamic massing form. Triton has supplied 3,280kg of TT Admix, its BBA certified concrete waterproofing system, to a prestigious new build project in West London. The project is a new car dealership situated between the M4 flyover and the site of Brentwood FC's new stadium. The construction comprises a watertight concrete base with welded sheet piled walls and a watertight concrete capping beam to provide a Type B integral waterproofing solution to BS 8102 (2009). On top of the slab is a steel framed structure.

Johnstone’s Trade’s products have been the driving force behind a striking new-look Mini dealership. For the exterior metal cladding, Johnstone’s Metal Defence System Steel & Cladding Topcoat in black was used to provide excellent protection from corrosion, ensuring the building will continue to stand out for years to come. Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt, specified in both off white and orange, was applied to the dealership’s interior to showcase the superb cars on show, with a superb finish free from flashing.

Johnstone’s Trade were approached by the Commissioners of Irish Lights to improve the condition of the walls and the railings as the structure indicated that it had not been painted for a number of years. The products that were specified for the project included Johnstone’s Stormshield Pliolite Masonry, a solvent based paint that was applied on the exterior walls of the lighthouse to provide a smooth matt finish in Brilliant White. To complete the makeover, the metal railings of the lighthouse were painted in Johnstone’s Steel & Cladding Semi-gloss Top coat in Signal red.

Bloomberg’s European Headquarters opened with excitement in October 2017. The marquee building in the heart of London provides new office space for Bloomberg’s 4000 London based employees. We installed over 37,000m2 of Kingspan raised access flooring and 34,000m2 of Kingspan Attiro real wood engineered floor. The combined systems allow quick and easy access to the steel encapsulated floor panels and the underfloor void whilst delivering 98.5% score against the BREEAM sustainability assessment method.

ASF Manufactured this large planter and seat from corten steel. The structure of the planter is 100% corten, manufactured as modular sections that were transported to site in sections and simply put together in situ. The seat area is a lowered platform alongside a running edge of the planter with hardwood seat slats attached to the top with invisible fixings. The seat area brings the lowered side up to full planter height so people can sit alongside the raised garden bed the planter creates.

ASF were chosen to supply the 3 rail quayside post for the Marine Lake reserve in Southport, and area of waterside walks, gardens and leisure activities. The ASF quayside posts are manufactured from 100% recycled cast iron (made for used car brake discs), with rails from 275 carbon steel.The incredible longevity of cast iron (expected lifespan in normal use in is excess of 100 years even if left unpainted), means that these posts will be serviceable as quayside posts for generations to come.

ASA Landscape Architects were appointed by the UKAEA to design a new vibrant landscape to replace the tired patch of grass in a quadrangle within the Culham Science Centre. The brief was to design a place that would be used as a meeting area for lunch and other social events, supporting the restaurant situated within the building. The focus is on the tenant’s mental well-being by encouraging rich social experiences.Katie Dixon from ASA Landscape Architects explains: “We wanted to create an exciting landscape and have based our concept on the idea of the atom and its energy and motion. By dividing the landscape into smaller areas with the use of paths, avenues of trees, linear planting beds with grasses and Corten steel screens, we wanted to encourage more intimate spaces for smaller group gatherings and meetings. This was further enhanced by including a range of outdoor furniture by mmcité throughout the site to facilitate meeting areas,” she ends.“It was an inspiring project,” Jana Tyrer from mmcité comments on the cooperation, “the architects together with the client have decided to use grey HPL and bicolour orange and grey powder coating of steel construction to match the company colours of UKAEA.”Playful yet very comfortable and calming environment, Culham’s quadrangle makes a perfect example of the new approach to public space, and its set up.

Selfridges & Co’s iconic store at 400 Oxford Street first opened its doors in 1909 and now includes a range of experiences including a creative playground, late-night dining restaurants, a cinema, and even wedding services. It’s also one of the only stores on Oxford Street not to have its windows smashed by the Suffragettes back in the day.In partnership with Souvenir Scenic Studios we were tasked with manufacturing security shutters to cover 2 voids, one facing the Edward Mews road and the other for a temporary space on Orchard Street.The client was keen to maintain vision once the shutters were installed in preparation for a new exhibition area and therefore decided to proceed with our Tube & Link steel security shutter. Both security shutters were over 4m in width and can be operated electrically via an external key switch. Manual overrides were provided so that each shutter could be used in the rare event of a power cut. Our Tube & Link security shutter was the perfect solution with the ability to maintain 75% visibility while making sure both areas remained secure. Due to the size of both openings, a three-phase motor was provided.  The steel tubes, guides, and housing were all powder coated grey to meet the client’s requirements.

Avoiding gas reliance when building a new house.Traditional self-build projects have always had heating systems such as gas central heating and solar panels installed. However, with the increasing costs of gas, and the uncertainty of future supplies, a secondary heating source is required.There are options such as ground heating pumps, etc. but a real heating system independent of the grid, plus a stunning focal point has to be a wood burning stove.In fact, wood logs are now the cheapest domestic heating fuel. According to the Stove Industry Alliance, wood now is “costing households 74% less per kWh than electric heating and 21% less than gas heating”. The benefits don’t end there. “Using a modern wood burning stove also costs 29% less to run than an air source heat pump. Wood logs are 87% less carbon intensive than gas, 88% less than electricity and 74% less than an air source heat pump.”Building a traditional steel pipe flue system is always an option, but steel systems are more suitable in retrofit projects where minimum disruption is required. When you are building a house from the ground up, then a more permanent and ultimately lifetime option is the better one.

Designed by Wilson Mason Architects, the ManchesterCancer Research Centre (MCRC) is a state of the artresearch facility, home to 150 researchers.The iconic public facing facility has been designed withan integrated environmental approach. With featuressuch as 85% natural ventilation and rainwater harvesting,the project has earned an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating.Allgood were asked to supply an ironmongerypackage that could reflect the sustainable approach,whilst catering for the building’s high performancerequirements.With the MCRC being a partnership between TheChristie, Cancer Research UK and the Universityof Manchester, there is frequent traffic of users. Itwas therefore imperative that Allgood supplied anironmongery package that would perform to the higheststandard. The package was delivered in a co-ordinatedstainless steel finish to match the clean aesthetic ofthe building’s interior. In addition, Modric lever and pullhandles were fitted on the internal doors, providing adurable and high quality product that provides a ten yearwarranty.All of the stainless steel door fittings supplied aremanufactured from 62% recycled materials, of which95% can be recycled at the end of the products life.Manufactured in our factory in Birmingham, the Modricproducts supplied enabled lower carbon emissionsthrough a shorter supply chain, contributing to the‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating of the building.

Precision micro, a UK based manufacturer of precision metal components for the automotive, aerospace and pharmaceutical industries were investing in a refurbishment of their photochemical etching facilities. The state of the art facility required a highly chemically resistant easy to clean floor finish. Various existing substrates needed to be pulled together to create one seamless finish with an integrated cove. Due to the chemicals utilised in the area, there is a risk of airborne corrosives attacking the metal ceilings, so an acid resistant protective coating was also required overhead.After extensive trials and chemical exposure testing, Remmers resin systems were selected for the works. For the ceiling, Epoxy BS3000 SG provided chemical protection to the galvanised steel surface and exhibited excellent adhesive properties after the steel was prepared using an ice blasting process. The floors were a mixture of existing resin finishes, new concrete and Polypropylene drain covers. A selection of priming solutions for the different areas were utilised including, Epoxy ST100, Epoxy MT100 and Epoxy BS3000 SG. Then topped with Epoxy Flex PH laid at 2mm and sealed with PUR Top M+. A family-run business started in County Mayo, Smyth Toys is a fast growing toy retailer with over 100 stores across the UK and Ireland.Situated within Dundalk Business Park, the site for the new warehouse was purchased for €8.9 million, and developed by TSL Projects, utilising multiple local contractors for the entire construction process.ChallengeWith 38,000m2 of roofing to clad, and 16,000m2 of cladding to install, Ireland's go-to roofing and cladding specialists Select Roofing were contracted to construct the building envelope on the mammoth warehouse.SolutionOpting to use Kingspan's KS1000RW composite panels for the roof, KS AWP panels for the walls, and DLTR rooflights; Select Roofing turned to Fixfast to use their MatchFast stainless steel A2/304 grade fasteners, moulded to the colours required to blend the fastener heads into the building, including fasteners for both light and heavy steel - where required across the various applications.Roofing and cladding completed within a speedy 11 week programme, Select Roofing achieved zero lost hours on-site, demonstrating their commitment to safety within the working environment.

111 The Strand, is an eight storey landmark office and retail building in central London. The property occupies a corner position on the Strand with a return frontage to Savoy Place. The majority of the 30,549 ft² office space is let to CVC Capital Partners.The iconic building is well-known for its contemporary appearance. The limestone façade with metal frames with curved bays of stone and glass, and a stone relief depicting the surrounding area truly stands out.With the recent acquisition of the long leasehold office building, the private equity firm CVC Advisors Ltd found it time for a complete refurbishment. The existing reception area and office floor 1 to 6 were stripped and upgraded to Category-B Standard. This is inclusive of new MEPH installations and a commercial kitchen fit out to service the meeting room suites and dining areas.Stravifloor Channel, a floating floor system using isolated steel channels with proprietary elastomeric pads, four layers of plywood, and a special damping layer was installed in the catering kitchen on the 5th floor of this fit-out project. The isolated steel batten system with enhanced stiffness was designed to minimise the transfer of impact noise to the office floors below.During the installation, an elastic Perimeter Strip was applied around the floors’ perimeter, to completely decouple it from the building structure.

The Rowe is a new architecturally designed office space in Whitechapel London, where tradition meets innovation. With outside space on every level, the building sets a sustainable benchmark for new office space in central London. The new elements mimics the horizontal banding of the 1960s concrete building as well as contrasting with a steel structure and dark metal palette.The architects, Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, had used KEIM previously. They contacted KEIM as they wanted a sustainable product in keeping with their core values. Samples were carried out, as shown in the photo below, to determine the most suitable colour.First off, KEIM Concrete Repair Mortar (KEIM Concretal-MR 2.0) was used for large repairs within the concrete. KEIM Fine Finishing Mortar (KEIM Concretal-FSP 0.2) was then used for levelling repairs as it is a much finer aggregate mix.KEIM Soldalit CL018, a light grey colour, was chosen to compliment the steel structure and due to its characteristics, was applied onto the previously painted surface without the need for a primer. It is fire resistant – A2-s1, d0 classified and Cradle to Cradle certified.The Rowe has been shortlisted for an AJ Retrofit Award 2023 in the Workspace (£10m and over) category. It was also awarded BREEAM ‘Excellent’, WELL ‘Platinum’ and received SmartScore certification.

It is anticipated that when completed in the next ten years or so, the regeneration of Wembley Park, in North West London, will provide up to 7000 new homes. Schöck is supplying its Isokorb structural thermal break systems across a number of different sites on this vast scheme, but one of the largest is South West Lands. This private rented sector residential-led mixed-use neighbourhood will account for around 12% of the new homes on the entire Wembley Park development, up to 900 in total.South West Lands is spread across four separate blocks, which all share a communal basement car park.The reinforced concrete frame buildings, up to 18 storeys high, are finished using traditional brickwork and standing seam metal cladding. To create valuable amenity space at higher levels, as well as offering far-reaching views across London, there are communal roof terraces and a considerable number of private balconies throughout the development.Schöck Isokorb® T type SK products were used on two of the phases at South West Lands for thermally connecting the cantilevered steel balconies to the reinforced concrete slab. The Isokorb® T type SK units were positioned accurately using re-useable balcony width steel jigs.

This project involved sealing a metal gutter in Glasgow. Leaks were present at most of the steel profile joints and rust was evident throughout. Heavy rust and soiling was first removed and then the entire length of the gutter was treated with Liquasil's corrosion primer, to prevent further rusting. Once cured, Liquasil Non Sag Sealer was applied to all joints. Non Sag Sealer has 1400% elasticity, to cope with extreme thermal movement. The whole gutter was then coated with Liquasil One to form a seamless and leak-free gutter lining.

Lockerpods bike locker offer safety and security for your bike. Manufactured from recyclable, low density polyethylene, the LDPE is UV treated and will not deteriorate or dis-colour over time. The door hasps are made of protected Stainless steel tabs, drilled to accept padlocks. Lockerpods are weatherproof so your bike is kept clean and dry and there’s space to store your helmet and other bike kit safely with your bike.

Franke Sissons supplied a package of water management controls and software to monitor and control the water consumption for thr 38 stainless steel combination sanitation units and associated shower areas. The A3000 Open Water Management System was a key environmental achievement of the project. Each of the new cells WC's and Washbasins are operated by touch free, vandal resistant infra red controls which are directly linked and managed from a central monitoring facility. This enables constant full control of all the washroom facilities including the supply of water.

The Portsmouth Ferry Terminal offers all the modern high standards and style of an airport. A full height concourse contains shops, check in desks and the arrival and departure areas. The Ferry terminal achieved a high BREEAM rating through a number of initiatives including the installation of Franke Sissons Stainless Steel Urinals and WC’s connected with the unique A3000 Open Water Management System. The use of dual flush touch free controls to flush the 4 litre WC and using sea water for flushing further reduced the water consumption of the building.
