Around 2,000m² of ROCKFON products: Rockfon Scholar and Samson wall panels; Rockfon Contour suspended baffles; and Rockfon Alaska suspended raft islands, were installed throughout the school to improve acoustic sound absorption – particularly in areas where the school design meant that traditional suspended ceilings were unable to be installed.

Lödige installed ESCORTA goods lift in Bad Hersfeld, GermanyAt the end of 2015 a passenger and goods lift was installed for Libri. The customer needed a lift which would enable the transportation of goods and passengers up to 9.5 m with 4 stops. Furthermore, it was required to find a solution to easily install within an existing warehouse. ESCORTA from Lödige was the perfect answer for the customer’s needs and structural requirements. The lift is delivered as a free-standing structure and does not require any pit. Therefore the installation was quick and easy. Additionally thanks to its new certification (European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EG und DIN EN 81-41) multiple persons can now simply ride in the lift with their goods to the desired floor. Neaco’s semi-structural glass balustrade and aluminium decking have been extensively specified at The Slate, the University of Warwick’s impressive conference centre occupying a waterside setting in the heart of the campus near Coventry. Designed by Associated Architects and built by Speller Metcalfe, the facility comprises 650 sqm of flexible event space.The building maximises views of the adjoining lake with a predominance of glazing and no pillars or fixtures to obscure the outlook. Neaco’s balustrade lines the full-length of a front terrace overlooking the lake and accommodates the view with clear glass panel infills.

The vibrant, ivory-coloured façade of a new healthcare facility in Cornwall posed no problem for the Renderplas range of coloured PVCu external render beads. Renderplas provided a decorative and durable solution to match the through-coloured render of the £1.9m building. Shell Nederland operates a large fuel storage depot in Arnhem distributing fuel to gas stations throughout The Netherlands. With a number of storage tanks on site, regular maintenance to protect against corrosion is essential. In this instance, they required an internal lining for their Tank 214.Poor linings can result in substantial losses due to asset downtime as tanks and vessels are left out of action as a result of corrosion. It was essential that the tank was protected with a coating that would perform exceptionally with extremely corrosive contents, whilst maximising the assets lifetime and minimising downtime.Originally the project was set to be completed with another lining, but ultimately it was Hempaline Defend 630 Cure 72 Epoxy that was used.

Flooring specialists Laceys Floors and Walls have used UltraFloor Level IT Hydra Bond to install 170sqm of flooring at Rushcliffe Country Park.BackgroundGreen Flag award winners since 2007, Rushcliffe Country Park is a popular visitor attraction in Nottinghamshire. Work is currently underway to renovate the visitor centre including staff office and toilets.The ChallengeExpert flooring specialists, Laceys Floors and Walls were the contractors commissioned to install 170sqm of flooring throughout the visitor centre. To complete the installation, Laceys Floors and Walls needed subfloor materials that would provide a super smooth finish to avoid any trip hazards and would withstand constant trafficking of visitors.The SolutionTo begin, Laceys Floors and Walls applied DPM IT damp proof membrane across the entire 170sqm area. DPM IT is a two component, solvent free epoxy resin system for use as a surface damp proof membrane. Designed to provide protection against subfloor moisture, DPM IT has a pot life of 45 – 75 minutes, a cure time of 5 hours and boasts a 98% RH floor moisture tolerance.Once fully cured, the team applied UltraFloor’s latest product innovation, Level IT Hydra Bond to a depth of 3-5mm.Level IT Hydra Bond is a super polymer modified smoothing compound which utilises UltraFloor’s unique technology – a process which enhances application and boasts unrivalled flow properties. Wedding ceremonies are made more peaceful in the Grade II and II* Listed Reading Town Hall following acoustic secondary glazing adaptations to block noise from the town centre. 23 units were installed. Each gothic arch was treated with a combination of transom coupled secondary glazed units with a Series 42 curved fixed light system affixed at the top. Series 10 horizontal sliding units were specified for the lower units on the wider windows, whereas the Series 45 side hung casement was selected for the narrower windows. 6.4mm acoustic laminate glass was specified which reduced noise levels by 40-45dB.

Gwinear Primary School in Cornwall has upgraded its heating system and switched to renewables by installing a Grant Vortex oil boiler which is using HVO biofuel, becoming the first school in the UK to use this fossil free liquid fuel.

A newly built Queensferry High School in Edinburgh, replacing the one currently in use, has had its internal fit-out completed ahead of schedule after the project was speeded up through the use of SMARTPLY PATTRESS PLUS.

Safety Technology International have donated protective covers to help a local community charity with false alarms at a time when they need it most.Wildgoose Rural Training is a charitable care farm in Hallow, just outside of Worcester, that supports adults and young people with a variety of learning disabilities.Starting in 2000 with just a handful of students, Wildgoose has grown into a 42-acre site with a thriving 6-acre farm where students from all backgrounds can learn horticulture, animal care, woodworking, arts and crafts, and carry out conservation work.Wildgoose supports students in a ‘happy and inclusive family atmosphere’ and focuses on teaching practical and meaningful land-based skills.One student had recently taken a liking to setting off the fire alarms in the main building at Wildgoose, resulting in frequent unnecessary evacuations.Not only did this cause a great deal of upheaval in having to evacuate the students from their buildings to the fire assemble points, but in students with sensory sensitivity and hearing issues these fire alarms caused a great deal of distress, panic and shock.On contact with STI, Wildgoose were recommended the Euro Stopper® call point covers with a sounder alarm to discourage the student from setting off the fire alarm. Situated on the former site of the Metropolitan Police headquarters and just a short walk from Victoria Station, The Broadway is one of Central London’s largest prime residential sites at 1.72 acres. It comprises six impressive towers with a striking architectural presence thanks to their bold oversized windows inspired by neighbouring art deco buildings.

Union Industries, the UK’s leading manufacturer of high-speed industrial doors, has completed a supply and installation project at Ragus Sugars, which manufactures bulk pure sugars for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical markets.

A Cupper Press was recently installed in a new can making factory in Europe, which was built near to commercial and office buildings in the surrounding area. Following recommendations from a consultancy specialising in vibration and structural dynamics, the Cupper Press was installed on top of an inertia block supported by spring elements and visco-dampers, offering a system natural frequency of 1.25 Hz. However, high movements were reported on the machines Spring Foundation during production and as a result the vibrations were emitting outwards to the neighboring buildings.The impact of this movement was premature wear on the machine and increased spoilage, reducing the overall productivity of the plant. The ChallengeFarrat were contacted to provide a replacement solution that would reduce the excessive movement of the Cupper Press and create a quieter environment for the neighbouring buildings. Cupper Presses are commonly used in can manufacturing to produce cylindrical cups from rolls of aluminium or metal. The primary action of this type of machine is to punch discs from sheets at high speeds. This action generates vertical excitations at frequencies determined by the speed of the machine, also known as ‘shocks’.  These heavy vibrations have damaging effects on the functionality of the machine installation, its systems and components, and the machines overall productivity. Shock induced vibrations can also damage the building by generating waves and noises that propagate out into the environment. It is therefore crucial to ensure that Cupper Presses are installed on suitable vibration control systems to mitigate against these effects. The primary element of this challenge was to stiffen the overall system, while preventing excessive vibrations being transmitted around. The SolutionFarrat’s application engineers considered several system criteria during the design phase, such as the mass, dimensions, and operating speed of the machine, as well as system stability and the isolation performance required to meet the clients challenging requirements.To resolve both of the clients issues, Farrat engineered a replacement vibration isolation system configured with bespoke bearings made of a steel base and 2 layers of Isomat isolators.Learn more about the material properties of Farrat Isomat here.Performance Results A vibration investigation was conducted by Farrat to measure the level of vibration emitted before and after replacement of the spring packs, to assess the efficiency of the Farrat Isomat System. The results of the survey are presented in the adjacent plot, showing the vertical accelerations measured before replacement with the blue curves, and after installation of the Farrat Isomat Bearing with the orange curves.Vibrations measured at the feet of the machine are shown on top, on the inertia block in the middle, and on the surrounding factory floor at the bottom. The results were observed at all measured operational machine speeds, between 110 and 170 RPM.  A significant vibration reduction can be seen in each part of the system, particularly at the operational speed of the Cupper Press at slightly below 2 Hz. This is the frequency where the machine is most likely to be moving & rocking, impacting the process quality. The pre-existing system of springs with visco-dampers has proven unsuitable because of its extremely low natural frequency, which is excessively close to the disturbing frequencies generated by the Cupper Press – increasing the risk of resonance issues. ConclusionThe client’s requirements have been met by the Farrat Isolated Foundation solution, which has significantly lowered the movements of the machine while maintaining a quiet environment for nearby buildings. This demonstrates the efficiency of Farrat Isomat systems for Cupper Press machine applications, where bespoke design solutions are needed to solve complex engineering challenges.#onamission

A partnership between Crown Paints, Mitie Property Services and Enfield Council has led to a special presentation for residents. For the last two years, the three organisations have been working together on redecoration works across Enfield Council’s property portfolio. To mark the milestone, a bench made from recycled paint containers has been given to the community by Crown Paints. Some 4,000 litres of products including Crown Trade Stronghold Smooth Masonry, Crown Trade Protective Coatings, Sadolin Superdec and Crown Trade Timonox Flame Retardant Coatings have all been used on the council’s social housing schemes.

The AliDeck team enjoyed another site visit up in the Big Smoke today as we travelled into London to take a look at an ongoing project that is using AliDeck aluminium decking.

The designers for the new offices in Atherstone, Warwickshire focused on creating a building that would be in tune both with its rural surroundings and also with the inventive and artistic profession of the occupants. The premises are the headquarters and design studio for a well known video game development company.The design of the building is based on a large barn with attractive contemporary wooden panelling and external posts and beams. Running alongside these posts and beams is dramatic bespoke aerofoil solar shading and weather louvres.As a perfect colourful contrast for offsetting the wood, ‘Copper Mine’ - gives the effect of patinated copper or Verdigris. The project comprises of 475 linear metres of 170mm elliptical aerofoil blades.The final effect of the blue/green aerofoil fins set against the wood is stunning as the images show. ‘Copper Mine’ is a textured finish and will give a pleasing variation in shade as sunlight moves across its surface

Sunshine Gym have provided a brand new outdoor gym at Newton Primary School in Derbyshire.Newton Primary School decided upon the Primary School Outdoor Fitness Package which provided a pre-determined mixture of equipment specially selected by our experts to encourage fitness within primary schools. The equipment can be used by eight pupils simultaneously. Inclusive of both multi and single user equipment this package can be used as a gentle cardiovascular workout. It features two pieces of multi-user equipment, and these ‘dual’ units promote social interaction whilst still allowing the pupils to exercise at their own pace.The equipment was installed on grass saver matting. This additional safety surface, over time, will encourage the grass to grow through and be mowed. Thus allowing it blend with the natural surroundings.This specific outdoor fitness package is to be used by children under 140cm. This makes it perfect for the KS1 & KS2 pupils, and they can use it for small classes for PE pupils or even as an after school fitness initiative.
