The brief given to Colne Contracts was to create a non-slip surface for the step area leading up to the client’s home. It was important that the steps were hard wearing and practical, but most importantly safe. Colne Contracts secured the steps with a resin surface to minimise slipping and then finished the steps with a stainless steel step nosing 13.5mm. Each profile cleverly included a glow in the dark insert. Dural supplied these practical but unusual safety profiles. The trims were custom made by Dural to include a glow in the dark colour.

He created a textbook set up of their mixes with each stack featuring; a PermaBound resin binder, four bags of gravel from large to small and a bag of KLCP sand. Afterwards, he added the gravel, resin, and sand to their SoRoTo forced action mixer, ensuring each batch was mixed for the exact same duration before decanting the mixed material into a wheelbarrow for transport to the installation area.The second team member took on the role of evenly spreading the mixed material using a tool known as a spazzle. This step is crucial to ensure an even distribution of material across the surface at the correct depth, resulting in a well-compacted resin bound surface. The unique design of the spazzle streamlines this phase of the installation, making it both efficient and accurate.The third team member then took over, displaying their craftsmanship by hand-troweling the surface with The Resin Bull 500LT+ trowel. This step is vital for achieving a compact, level, and smooth finish. The expertise of the installers was evident in every stroke, culminating in a seamless and elegant finish.This process was repeated until both the path and patio were completed. BBA approved Terrabound resin bound surfacing was specified for Liverpool Football Club's new flagship retail store at the Anfield ground. As part of the landscaped pedestrian area at the front of the new store, a robust, low maintenance, porous paving was required. Just under 4000m2 of Addagrip’s resin bound porous surfacing was selected in a range of colours to complement the design and to match the Terrabound Resin Bound surfacing previously installed at Liverpool Football Club’s newly expanded Main Stand in 2016.

The Almac Building in Northern Ireland needed a 2,400 m² storage area for flammable solvents to have an electrically conducting floor. This was necessary to ensure the materials' safe containment and help with explosion control. The floor had to be chemically resistant, support VNA forklift trucks, and meet specific electrical resistance standards. GMP Industrial Ltd. installed the floor using Arturo's static resin floor system, which included primers, repair mortars, and a self-smoothing floor. The project was complex due to the sensitivity of the area and the need for precise electrostatic control. The installation was completed in October 2022, with final approval granted in November 2022.

DECORATIVE RESIN BOUND PAVING DESIGN FOR LUXURY APARTMENTS IN KENTAddagrip approved contractor Total Protection GB Ltd was appointed by the Kingston Landscape Group to carry out an intricate circular surfacing design for the courtyard of an £11 million residential development in Sevenoaks, Kent.Tubs Hill House, a Prime Place development of a former office block into luxury apartments, required a high quality, decorative surfacing feature for the split level courtyard gardens, built above an existing concrete slab car park. The circular design required two contrasting colours of BBA approved Addaset Resin Bound porous surfacing created with the help of a formable edge for both the courtyard and podium area.SURFACING REQUIREMENTThe surface needed to be decorative and hard wearing to offer a durable high quality finish for the luxury apartment development. BBA approved resin bound porous surfacing was selected. A total of area of 111m2 of Addaset was installed using 3mm Lucerne Silver and 3mm Dorset Gold blends to provide a low maintenance pedestrian surface with good slip resistance for this eye catching organic design. The aluminium flexible edging strips were used to create the circular design and form a solid divide between the two resin bound colours used for this pattern.

In 2008 we supplied and installed Resin Flooring throughout the Biochemistry Laboratories during Phase One. Some 11 years later they requested Stratum applied the same flooring systems again to Phase Two, the new extension. Stratum delivered the project in collaboration with Bolidt, our European partner, installing in excess of 7,000m² of resin flooring using three different systems, connecting seamlessly into the existing resin from Phase one. The requirements for the flooring were for hardwearing and functional finishes, that were seamless in nature and hygienic. Stratum provided the trendy space with an attractive floor to match the other natural materials and colours in the scheme. The resin needed to be installed over a metal panel raised access floor in the main circulation areas. Challenge-      The resin needed to be installed over a metal panel raised access floor in the main circulation areas.-      To select a colour and finish that would sit alongside and compliment a range of different materials chosen for the interior spaces.-      To carefully programme in the work and co-ordinate with the other trades on the project.-      To provide a floor soft enough for doggy paws, yet hardwearing and anti-slip whilst maintaining ease of cleaning.-      To arrange for products to be delivered to a busy street in London with only front access  Solution-      Bolidtop 525 Deco was selected with flake system and textureless anti-slip coating in a shade of green with black flakes. -      Cement boards were laid on top of steel raised access floor.-      To work closely with Fileturn Limited to ensure timing of delivery and programme goes to plan.   Benefits/Installation-      The Stratum system is the most visible floor finish in the main space. Over 1800m2 of Stonebound resin bound permeable paving has been installed at Kings College University London to upgrade the existing surfacing for the historic quadrangle. The Strand Quad has been a part of King’s since the original university building (the King’s Building) was completed in 1831.SURFACING REQUIREMENTThis project aimed to modernise and improve the surface of the Quad and provide engineering research laboratories and teaching space for new undergraduate engineering programmes in Strand Campus Quad basement levels -1 and -2.A significant part of the plan was to remove the tired, worn asphalt and replace it with a new Resin Bound gravel surface, releveling and refurbishing the King’s Building steps.The requirement was to provide a clean, modern looking finish whilst remaining sympathetic to the Quad’s history and its surrounding, including the King’s Building and the East Wing of Somerset House, which are both Grade I listed. The paving needed to be decorative, low maintenance and durable with good slip resistance for the historic courtyard.Addagrip approved contractor TP Surfacing and Coatings were first contacted about the project by Farrans back in March 2009 to assist with the design, specification and installation of over 1800m2 of surfacing at the university. Pure Design – Bolidtop 525 and Bolidtop 525 TFColour – S 3500 - N830m2Architect – HCC ArchitectsMain Contractor - Morgan SindallInstallation dates - 2018Hampshire County Council were building a new two storey block for this rapidly expanding secondary school. The project was to use modern and sustainable building materials, and Stratum were asked to provide a seamless resin floor to fit in with the scheme. With longevity and aesthetic both key attributes, Bolidtop 525 was selected as the ideal solution. The library, classrooms, reception rooms and circulation spaces were provided with our standard finish Bolidtop 525, and the WC’s and cleaners cupboards were installed with our Bolidtop 525TF to give a more positive slip resistance in the wet. An integrated 150mm skirting was also used in the wet areas to create a watertight detail and for ease of cleaning. Hampshire were keen to use the same product on the stairs, and we were able to provide an excellent solution with the addition of a proprietary nosing. The nosing was selected to provide adequate LRV differential with the resin, and also to give maximum slip resistance to the stair. Our joint free tread/rise detail created an aesthetically pleasing yet robust detail for both the main and escape stairs.  Challenge-      To select a single flooring solution that was suitable for multiple areas, including the library, classrooms, WC’s, circulation areas, office space and stairs.-      To carefully programme in the work with the main contractor to ensure that the building conditions are suitable (watertight/dry/correct ambient temp), and also that key programme dates are met to facilitate follow on works. -      Coordination with other trades.-      To enable flush electrical floor boxes to be seamlessly incorporated within the floor.Solution-      Bolidtop 525 is sound attenuating, making for an ideal solution for the library and teaching spaces alike. The addition of an anti-slip additive to the top coats means that wet areas can be seamlessly interlinked with dry areas, with a virtually indistinguishable difference in appearance. The stairs worked very well with the addition of a proprietary nosing installed flush with the finished resin. Collaboration with M&E to ensure the correct floor boxes are procured and installed at the correct level.-      Stratum worked closely with Morgan Sindall to ensure there was a successful phased install, navigating around the project whilst maintaining access to adjoining areas for other key trades.-      To arrange delivery of materials in ample time.-      To ensure deliveries were arranged for, and were unloaded outside of school drop off and pick-up times.  Benefits/Installation-      Hampshire County Council had worked with Stratum and used Bolidt products on several projects before, and therefore they knew they were getting a resin floor of the highest quality and installation service to match.Result-      A seamless and elegant floor throughout this very modern school building, with different solutions provided to suit different areas around the building. The longevity of the floor will be proven over time in this very highly trafficked environment. “James is a very collaborative person to work with. In this case study, we explore a recent resin bound gravel driveway installation project completed using PermaBound materials. Discover how this project aimed to enhance both the aesthetics and functionality of a property's driveway, offering durability and low-maintenance benefits.The homeowner desired a modern, attractive, and SuDs-compliant surface to replace their worn-out driveway. After careful consideration, they chose a resin bound gravel driveway using an Ocean Grey blend. The goal was to create a durable solution that would elevate the property's curb appeal.The project commenced with thorough surface preparation, including the removal of the existing driveway. A permeable tarmac surface was laid, providing a clean and level base for the resin bound application. A porous sub-base was established to ensure effective water drainage.Following best practices, the team marked out 37 bays of approximately 3.6m² in which they would lay each of their mixes. Using high-quality PermaBound UVR+ resin binder and a unique Ocean Grey aggregate blend, the installers produced their mixes in a forced action mixer. The resin and aggregate mixture were carefully spread using a spazzle before being hand-troweled onto the prepared surface by seasoned professionals, creating a seamless and smooth finish.The completed Ocean Grey resin bound gravel driveway instantly transformed the property's appearance. The cool grey tones of the aggregate harmonised with the surrounding architecture, delivering a contemporary and inviting entrance. The surface's smooth finish added sophistication, while its permeability enabled efficient drainage, reducing the risk of localised surface flooding.Additionally, the driveway's low-maintenance nature proved beneficial. Debris can be easily swept away, and occasional power washing will restore its pristine appearance. Resin Bound porous Terrabound was selected for the new surfacing at Abbotsford House as part of the lottery funded restoration of the property completed in May 2013. Addagrip approved contractor The Fraser Bruce Group carried out the 850sqm installation of 6mm Rhine Gold Terrabound Resin Surfacing at a depth of 18mm to the courtyard and garden pathways. It was essential throughout the works that the aesthetics of the system were not compromised and the joints were kept to a minimum. The result is a durable, porous, low maintenance, decorative finish in a natural aggregate to complement this historic building.

RESIN BOUND SWIMMING POOL SURROUND FOR DAVID LLOYD GYM IN ACTONAddagrip approved contractor Total Protection (GB) Ltd has installed 294m2 of Addabound Resin Bound surfacing around the swimming pool at the David Lloyd Gym in East Acton, London.SURFACING REQUIREMENTThe client was looking for a decorative Resin Bound paving for the outdoor swimming pool at the gym which has just undergone a £9m refurbishment to provide an indoor and outdoor pool, modern spa and racquet courts. The requirement was for a low maintenance system that would be smooth and comfortable underfoot, providing a decorative aggregate finish that could be powerwashed as part of the cleaning regime of the pool area.Interserve Construction appointed Total Protection (GB) Ltd to prepare the surface and install 294m2 of BBA approved Addabound Resin Bound surfacing in a recycled marble Dune blend.The challenge was the preparation required to the existing surfaces surrounding and adjacent to the outdoor pool to ensure a suitable substrate for the Resin Bound system. Undulations and differing depths were regulated with compatible screed material and an aluminium edge detail was installed to provide an edge for the 12mm depth of Addabound.The new surface was installed in a single application in May 2018 to prevent any day joints and ensure the smooth, seamless finish was achieved in time for the grand opening.

The requirement was for a low maintenance system that would be smooth and comfortable underfoot, providing a decorative aggregate finish that could be power washed as part of the cleaning regime of the pool area.Interserve Construction appointed Total Protection (GB) Ltd to prepare the surface and install 294m2 of BBA approved Addabound Resin Bound surfacing in a recycled marble Dune blend.The challenge was the preparation required to the existing surfaces surrounding and adjacent to the outdoor pool to ensure a suitable substrate for the Resin Bound system. Undulations and differing depths were regulated with compatible screed material and an aluminium edge detail was installed to provide an edge for the 12mm depth of Addabound.The new surface was installed in a single application in May 2018 to prevent any day joints and ensure the smooth, seamless finish was achieved in time for the grand opening.

Over 7,500sqm of Addastone Plus resin bonded surfacing has been installed at Glasgow Airport as part of the Glasgow Airport Investment Area (GAIA) project.The infrastructure works, funded through the £1.13billion Glasgow City Region City Deal initiative, began in June 2019 and includes new roads, bridges, cycling routes and pedestrian walkways around the airport.As part of the infrastructure works, Addagrip approved contractor Resarf Flooring Ltd was appointed by main contractor Wills Brothers Civil Engineering Ltd to install 7,575m2 of Addastone Plus Resin Bonded surfacing in a hard wearing 1-2mm Autumn Quartz for the perimeter paths around the site.The durable resin bonded system offers a seamless decorative, highly functional surface with excellent slip resistance.The installation was completed in May 2022.

Addagrip Terraco approved contractor Resarf Flooring Ltd has completed a 3500m2 resin bound installation for the new High School in Portobello on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Using Addaset resin bound and Addacolor resin bound coloured surfacing the main feature was the creation of a distinctive world map design.The project funded by the City of Edinburgh Council includes a new building for 1,400 pupils at the site in Portobello Park, sympathetically designed by JM Architects with the landscape in mind.SURFACING REQUIREMENTThe new paving around the school needed to be low maintenance and durable with good slip resistance. The project also required a colourful durable surfacing product to create a resin bound map of the world to be installed adjacent to the Geography department for use during lessons. Designed in contrasting Addacolor Blue and Addaset Lucerne Silver, the map design sets off the area beautifully and should hopefully encourage the pupils to get outdoors and ‘see a bit of the world’. Addaset Lucerne Silver was also installed to the forecourt and rear courtyards of the school to provide a free draining natural silver granite effect surface to complement the colour of the new building.The new school opened to pupils in October 2016.

The Santo António Villas, Golf & Spa Resort (previously known as Parque da Floresta) is situated on the far West of the Algarve amongst hilly landscapes. The resort located near the historic town of Lagos, Portugal opened in 1987. It was designed by Pepe Gancedo who was one of Spain’s most famous Architects and has no two holes the same which attracts golfers to return again and again.This project included many different techniques which can be achieved using SureSet resin bound paving. The whole surface was first covered in primer and CRM (crack reduction membrane) to provide additional support to the tiled base below. The surround of the pool was laid in 3mm Popcorn along with a frame created with aluminium edging and 3mm Bronze Medal, a flower design was also installed using the flexible aluminium edging and colours from the Spectrum Range.

Pure Design - Bolidtop 525 and Bolidtop 525 TFColour - S 4005-Y50R1700m2Architect - KSS GroupProject Main Contractor - McLaughlin & HarveyProject Installation Dates - Jan 20/Sept 20  A building designed to “create the future” and materials used to interpret the club’s values and reflect its strength and ambition. Stratum were chosen to install 1700m² of Pure Design - Bolidtop 525 and Bolidtop 525 TF with 150mm integrated skirting throughout, to the new state-of-the-art training facility. The scheme comprised of a foyer entrance, a double height atria space, changing rooms, commercial studio and connecting spaces. The requirements were quality and robust materials, hygiene, ease of cleaning and simplicity in aesthetics.Bolidtop 525 was installed in all spaces with an additional textured finish to the showers for increased slip-resistance. The building featured underfloor heating throughout, covered by a 75mm thick screed. In the showers the resin was neatly dressed into the drains. All floors are entirely seamless and feel comfortable underfoot with sound-attenuating properties, fulfilling the functional requirements of the building. Challenge-      To navigate around the core areas of a busy construction site with sensitive floor finishes, and to maintain the highest quality of finish.-      Coordination with other trades.-      To ensure delivery of materials ran smoothly from the Netherlands during the challenging times of Covid-      To follow the government guidance on Covid safety whilst ensuring we worked to programme Solution-      Despite the challenges of Covid, Stratum worked closely with McLaughlin & Harvey ensuring a successful phased install, navigating around the project whilst maintaining access to adjoining areas for other key trades.-      To arrange delivery of materials in ample time for each phase.  Benefits/Installation-      KSS Group had worked with Stratum and used Bolidt products before, therefore they knew they were getting a resin floor of the highest quality and service to match.Result-      Stratum provided the specialist training facility with an attractive high end functional floor which uniformly flows seamlessly from core areas to changing rooms and wash areas.
