Cargo Bikehangar - London Locks

Cargo Bikehangar - London Locks

Cyclehoop

Cargo bikes can be a great asset for businesses, offering fast, cost-effective logistics in urban areas. However, secure storage can be a barrier to operating a cargo bike fleet, particularly for small premises or businesses operating out of domestic properties. Find out how Cyclehoop helped solve this problem for London Locks.London Locks are a locksmiths based in Tower Hamlets, east London. Founded in 2004 by Lloyd Morgan, the business is Master Locksmiths Association approved and offers a range of locksmith and security services. As part of their Green Policy, the business switched from a fleet of vans to e-cargo bikes, purchasing their first cargo bike using a grant from the Zero Emissions Network (ZEN – a mayor of London Air Quality Fund project). Located on the CS2 route, London Locks found the cargo bike was perfect for callouts, and subsequently added another to their fleet. After moving to a new premises, the business could no longer store their bikes securely on-site. Instead, the bikes were stored half a mile away, making access inconvenient. As members of the Zero Emissions Network, Tower Hamlets Council were put in contact with London Locks and were able to connect them with funding from the Business Low Emission Neighbourhood to purchase external storage.London Locks’ new premises features a car parking space at the front of the building. As the Cyclehoop Cargo Bikehangar is designed to reallocate car parking spaces into dedicated cargo bike storage, it proved to be the ideal solution.Following a consultation to assess the feasibility of the site, Cyclehoop installed the unit in April 2024.Accommodating two cargo bikes (and potentially a third), London Locks effectively doubled the utilisation of the parking space, all just metres from their front door. The Cargo Bikehangar has been awarded Sold Secure Powered Cycle Diamond accreditation, with security features including an innovative fail-secure lock mechanism protected by a hardened steel plate, anti-lever plates on the door frames and security fixings throughout. As a business that utilises the power of the cargo bike, Cyclehoop is delighted to help make cargo bikes a viable option for businesses. If you would like to find out more about the Cargo Bikehangar or the funding streams available to businesses to support sustainable transport, please contact our expert sales team.Contact UsSecure cycle storage in general is a key barrier to overcome, especially for businesses operating in areas of high population density and limited space like Tower Hamlets. Ongoing contact and communication with businesses is key to maximising long lasting benefits of cargo bikes for businesses.Rob MortonPrincipal Transport Planner, London Borough of Tower Hamlets

Decorations:A fresh coat of paint revived the school’s appearance, protecting it from the elements. 6. Electric Blinds Installation:Modern electric blinds were installed, providing enhanced control over natural light and privacy.Challenges and Solutions:The project encountered several challenges, including the delicate balance between modernization and historical preservation.Replacing and renovating windows can significantly enhance a building’s energy efficiency, aesthetics, and functionality. Our team worked closely with the school’s partner Felton Consult to select windows that not only adhered to modern standards but also blended seamlessly with the building’s traditional architecture. Although not a listed building our client recognised that they are custodians of this building and Ventrolla played a pivotal role in the design of the windows to ensure that the appropriate specification is now installed. From the moment they started on site, their craftsmanship has been evident throughout and it has been enlightening to see the care and attention that has gone into the installation of each and every window even on a relatively large project. Historic Restoration - 230 Park Avenue (The Helmsley Building)

C-Probe Systems

Challenge: Many elements of the iconic skyscraper were facing embedded steel corrosion, including the structural steel lattice columns within the colossal terracotta enclosures. The expansion of the steel caused by the corrosion was severely damaging the masonry cladding and cracking the six-foot-tall terracotta bison heads.Strategy: Installation of an impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) system at the steel sections with the colonnades on 29th to 32nd floors. The system consisted of LoCem® +point® anode mortar was applied within the bed joints and drilled in to provide 360° protection of the steel surfaces. The bison heads were deconstructed, steel cleaned-up and masonry reconstructed. LoCem® is a low carbon cement alternative (AACM), which can also act as a cathodic protection anode for controlling steel frame corrosion.Outcome: The ICCP system resulted in long-term performance and control for the whole life preservation of our clients’ assets. Using AchillesICP for control over corrosion rate, and AiMS to collect the data, the client had full transparency over structural health and the power to make predictive maintenance decisions.

CareSpaces by Wealden Rehab

Accessible toileting facilities are crucial in public spaces to meet the diverse needs of individuals. Changing Places toilets, such as the modular Care Capsule™, provide a portable and adaptable solution for those with disabilities, ensuring they can enjoy their outings comfortably. A recent project with the Sussex Wildlife Trust exemplifies the effectiveness of Care Capsule™ in upgrading existing facilities. Despite space constraints in the visitors and education centres, a modular unit was swiftly installed adjacent to the main building, offering accessibility without the need for extensive construction within pre-existing structures. The project, initiated in January 2023, aimed for completion by the end of March 2023. The tight timeline was met through efficient processes, including a prompt site survey, proposal acceptance, and swift groundworks. Overcoming challenges like relocating a power cable, the team successfully hoisted the Care Capsule™ into place. The exterior was clad in local chestnut timber to harmonize with the surroundings, while interior features like Altro non-slip vinyl flooring, White Rock welded wall finishes, and height-adjustable units ensured both functionality and aesthetic coherence.

Newton Waterproofing Systems

Hammerson House will be a world-class, 116-bed residential centre for the elderly Jewish Community in Hampstead. Newton Specialist Contractor Cast Contracting Ltd (CCL) were approached during the planning stages to develop a comprehensive waterproofing solution for the extensive basement.CCL recommended the installation of a Newton CDM water management system to comprehensively waterproof the extensive basement. The 50mm thick Fibran XPS 500-C insulation was then installed beneath more 508 membrane across the entire concrete slab. Additionally, Basedrain drainage channel was installed around the perimeter, including inspection ports to provide a fully maintainable system. This entire system is served by a series of complete sump and pump systems, each consisting of primary and backup NP400 pumps, high water level alarms, and battery backup systems. These are all controlled by Newton’s advanced Control Panel-Pro to ensure a failsafe system, even during a power outage. Finally, Newton’s 107F cementitious waterproof membrane was spray applied to the concrete upstands of the lightwells and lift pits in order to complete the continuous watertight solution.

Michelmersh Brick Holdings PLC

In Rugby, 57 aerial masts and a radio station are the genesis for the beginning of a new town, centred around the recently finished Houlton School. The carefully considered design of the School by Van Heyningen & Haward (VHH), is the successful retrofit of a collection of historic, grade 2 listed radio station buildings. Its cost-effective evolution into a thriving, sustainable secondary school comes through the careful integration of the previous buildings and by choosing to use products that fitted soundly within the pre-existing vernacular.Adapting the original framework to today’s standards was a job that took years to come to fruition, careful application of steel frame and the restoration of the original brickwork has meant that the two main listed structures, Transmission Hall and Power Hall will become a place of learning for generations of students. Handmade clay bricks provided by Michelmersh were vital to the restoration of the project, where they were used to ensure the structures could be repaired and retained rather than rebuilt from the ground up.Throughout the project, various elements of the building's industrial past have been retained, with arched windows and high ceilings to ensure that the history of this nearly century-old building is revered, but not overpowering compared to its newly instated modern sensibilities.Houlton School recently won the Refurbishment Category at the BDA Brick Awards.
