Buzon UK were commissioned alongside The Outdoor Deck Company to refurbish the external terraces of several top floor apartments located on Nile Street, moments from Old Street, London. The brand new GRAD invisible fixing clip system was supplied and installed by the Outdoor Deck Company, their first ever GRAD installation in the UK. Buzon UK supplied and installed PB pedestals, which were placed under each rail to support the GRAD ThermoAsh deck boards. The GRAD system can either be fitted onto conventional timber joists, or mounted onto the bespoke support rail system.

More than 1,600 litres of Textrol Oil Clear were applied to the Velodrome and whilst we still cannot produce a proper case study until the games has finished, there is some evidence out there now.The 12,000 square metre roof is constructed using a very lightweight double curving cable net, suspended from a steel structure. Beneath it, the oval track is 250m in length, engineered for speed and constructed with great precision entirely from wood.The exterior of the building is clad in 5,000m2 of custom-cut Western Red Cedar shiplap boards. The entire exterior cladding was coated with Owatrol Textrol oil.

Accoya to clad the external façade and construct individual poolside gazebos and walkways used by hotel guests. Exposed to high coastal humidity all year round and an annual average rainfall of over 2000 mm during the four month monsoon season, the hotel chose Accoya for its stability and natural appearance. Accoya delivers outstanding levels of performance, including dimensional stability, class 1 durability and sustainability. Distributors RitikaaWood used 25 m3 of 16 x 150 mm Accoya boards to clad the hotel’s façades as well as the area surrounding its swimming pool, which the distributors also designed, manufactured and installed.

This 115m² project was a large luxury new-build. The decking required two distinct build-up methods around the house. One section was on a waterproofing membrane, the other on a steel framed walkway. Adjustable support pedestals were loose-laid onto the membrane. iDecking aluminium rail system was set onto the pedestals and EasyClick boards were clicked into place. Pedestals lifted the decking structure off the membrane allowing free drainage and creating a level surface on the falling roof. Aluminium rails were mechanically fixed to the steel structure and the whole terrace was set to one, seamless level wrapping around the house.

Wey Hill is a three-story building accommodating eight apartments located in Haslemere in the borough of Waverley in Surrey. Demolition of the existing warehouse was authorised to build this 570m² development, consisting of two one bedroom and six two bedroom apartments, located 12 miles from Guildford.Cellecta’s Mojave S2-10 was specified by Landmark Estates for its high-performance underfloor heating system that offers a dry and robust floor build-up from one source.XFLO FF boards are manufactured to suit the pipe diameter and spacing required to achieve the desired thermal output.Vero Developments were awarded the contract to erect this development.

With previous roof re-coverings proving problematic, two key requirements were highlighted, building the thermal performance to help save energy, and improving robustness, to mitigate damage caused by vandalism. The architect worked closely with Sarnafil to ensure the chosen roofing products provided the required detail, specification and performance. A Sarnafil HD bonded system was specified guaranteeing a high quality and durable roof. By combining the thickest single ply membrane available – 2mm – and the robust insulation board – SarnaTherm HD – the Sarnafil HD system offered a long-term, resilient and well-insulated roofing system with very low thermal conductivity.

Bespoke garage and car port doors from Rundum Meir, which provide natural ventilation and daylighting into enclosed garage spaces, can deliver a seamless aesthetic result in contemporary architecture featuring vertical timber board-on-batten cladding. This is illustrated at the Abode development in Cambridgeshire, where the architects delivered uniformity across different housing styles using a limited palette of materials. Horizontal and vertical cladding was extended into the doors for the car ports manufactured in matching oak. These ventilated doors enable fresh air and daylight to flow through the car ports from the rear gardens, adding an interesting visual dimension.

A former brownfield site on Ascot Road, Watford is undergoing a transformation to provide a new residential-led quarter with much needed new homes and retail space.This project, by development and investment company, Orion, will comprise of buildings between six and eight storeys, with 489 new homes for the private sector of which 35% will be affordable homes, in addition to two lower floors of retail space.Orion is leading the development process at Cassiobridge Quarter, which centres on regenerating under-utilised land and buildings, making them into landmark destinations and improving the local community with enhancedinfrastructure and aesthetics.RCM was appointed to supply its high-performance sheathing board, DensGlass which will make up part of the through wall system to an RC frame with a lightweight steel frame infill.DensGlass consists of a fibreglass mat with a gypsum core, designed to provide a high degree of protection from the elements in external cladding constructions.Widely recognised by the GOLD colour, DensGlass fiberglass mat gypsum sheathing board, has an exemplary track record that spans more than 30 years.Thanks to its ability to protect the building envelope against incidental moisture damage during and after construction, DensGlass Sheathing is a preferred substrate under brick, stone and rainscreen cladding and suitable for lightweight steel frame, timber frame, modular / offsite and concrete frame construction types.In addition to the above features, DensGlass is A1 non-combustible, CE marked, lightweight with easy scribe and snap properties.On completion of the project, Cassiobridge Quarter with its modern design will provide a stylish appearance to the area with much-needed homes and a new community for residents to enjoy.

A high specification sound absorption solution...GRAHAM Construction were appointed to lead the refurbishment of Senate House, part of the University of London which is to house the School of Oriental & African Studies. SOAS is the world’s leading institution for languages, cultures and societies of Asia, Africa and the Middle East.The plan is to improve the student experience significantly by offering state-of-the-art facilities, with a high specification sound absorption solution for reverberation control in the Teaching Rooms, Seminar Rooms, Meeting Halls, Study Units and Lecture Theatres.Increased sound absorption helps to improve speech transmission quality, sometimes as much as 35%, control echo as well as background noise and reduce reverberation times in teaching areas.The SOAS project will accommodate a 25% planned increase of the cosmopolitan student numbers, with staff and students together on one centrally located campus, so reverberation control is paramount in this instance.We have undertaken the supply & installation of 2,650 sq metres of the Absorb-R GypLine αw Acoustic Plaster along site our installation partner UK Acoustics. The Absorb-R GypLine αw system includes 25mm and 39mm Acoustical Absorption Boards which can be fitted direct to soffit, to a shallow narrow void track-line carrier ceiling or a deep void MF Ceiling Grid. The boards are then sanded and treated with a 3mm acoustic spray plaster with a choice of finishes. The Absorb-R GypLine αw System finishes can then be colour coated to any RAL top coat colour and provides a virtually seamless monolithic ceiling with high and exceptional sound absorption levels that meet or exceed typical reverberation criteria.

Yeoman Shield Anti-Ligature handrail system is being utilized in a newly commissioned dementia unit in South Wales.Ysbyty George Thomas, as part of Cwm Taf Health board’s Valley Life Initiative, has recently undergone a refurbishment to become a health and wellbeing centre for people with cognitive and memory problems.Throughout the design process of the new Dementia Unit, comfort and functionality for clients who would be accessing the area was paramount. Not only were aesthetics taken into consideration with a stunning welsh valleys mural wallpaper installed in between bright colourful “front doors” but safety aspects were of a prime concern.For safeguarding measures Yeoman Shield’s Anti- Ligature Guardian Handrail was chosen, as both a supportive and wall protection rail system, along the main corridor of Ysbyty George Thomas as well as through the Dementia Unit.This Anti-Ligature handrail has a continuous fixing block which runs the full length of the back of the rail eliminating any points that can easily have a length of material or cord wound around it, preventing the possibility of harm to patients. Rubio WoodCream was chosen for the exterior cladding of this stunning residence in Hout Bay, Cape Town, because the finish mimics the look of Shou Sugi Ban (ancient Japanese technique of burning timber). This home was designed by Salt Architects and built by Musa Renovations and Projects. The homeowners wanted the cladding to look modern without coming across as too "slick" or having too much sheen in the finish. Rubio WoodCream created a natural look and feel, showing the variance of the natural grain and weathered look. Besides the aesthetics, they chose this product because of the ease of application and maintenance. As the name suggests, it takes one coat per board and is incredibly easy to touch up.

The school has 69 pupils who have special educational needs, of which around 28 would board on the first floor of the new school.Soundis were contracted to supply an acoustic fabric wall mounted panelling system to the newly constructed teaching areas within the school. The requirement for sound absorption on this project was elevated due to the sensitivity of sensory processing within the children. The panels help to control & reduce reverberation times (echos) providing a calmer environment for the children to work in.The system chosen on this project were the Soundis 40mm Absorb-R SofTone Panels, due to the panels being 40mm thick, they provide Class A acoustic performance.

These where installed by our installation partner UK Acoustic Systems The WoodTec Wall Slats are based on a fibre gypsum board which has excellent properties regarding both fire safety and acoustics. The slats are less sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity which results in 100% straight aligned slats over their full lifetime.

Cellecta ScreedBoard 20 was also specified for the overlay floorboard. In 2010, Protech where approached by The Clegg Group for a renovation project of an eight storey 1930’s building.Originally known as Shaftesbury House, the building was opened in 1938 to house migrant workers in Leeds that had previously been living in appalling conditions. The “Wohnpark in der südlichen Luisenstrasse” residential project was built in Karlsruhe in 2015. At the client’s request, architects AGP Generalplaner GmbH designed the building with enhanced impact sound insulation. Schöck Tronsole® was chosen as the impact sound insulation system for the stairs.Spacious rental and owner-occupied apartments with 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms were designed on a floor area totalling 18,000 m². All of the stairs in the buildings comply with the requirements of soundproofing level III as per VDI 4100 or DEGA class B. Specifically, the measured standard impact sound level of the stairs and landings ranges between 32 dB and 38 dB. These levels are about 10 dB better than the required standard impact sound level of 46 dB. By comparison: A reduction of 10 dB is equivalent to reducing the volume by half. The residents in the complex in Karlsruhe will notice this difference quite clearly. By not being able to impact noise from the stairs. The stairs are soundproofed using Schöck Tronsole® type F on the ceiling slabs while Tronsole® type Z separates the landings from the stairs and outer walls. The supporting element for the Tronsole® type Z was cemented into the 26 cm landing back at the prefabricating plant. Accordingly, the Tronsole® type Z wall element was installed and type F fastened to the landings and stairs on site.

Fixing down of the insulation boards (to the existing waterproof covering) was a noisy operation which also exposed the retail tenant below to risk of water ingress. Work had to be undertaken on a roof where ridges and valleys had to be navigated whilst managing the waterflow.The specification allowed for the removal and replacement of the saturated areas as identified by our moisture mapping survey. This operation had to be planned to ensure that the retail stores were not put at risk in terms of water ingress, but still managed to keep the works progressing to schedule. THE PROJECTRecticel’s Eurothane® GP and Eurowall® Cavity provided the quality PIR solution for two city-based social housing developments. Melody Gardens and Corporation Road in Salford, Manchester were built on behalf of Places for People and For Housing. Watson Homes carried out the work on both developments. For Melody Gardens, it involved the building of a four-storey block compromising 48 apartments; nine two-storey houses, and a bungalow. The properties were built on a 0.4-hectare site once occupied by a Catholic church.THE SOLUTIONEurothane® GP, a low-thermal conductivity panel, provided Melody Gardens’ groundfloor insulation.
