Decorative and seamless flooring supplied for atrium area to Radclyffe School

Sherwin-Williams

A new flooring finish was required for the atrium in the Radclyffe School in Oldham, Greater Manchester. Because the atrium floods this area of the school with so much light through a Perspex roof, it meant that whatever was chosen had to be UV stable, hard wearing and safe. The system also had to be economic, hard-wearing, easily cleaned, have low odour during application and chemical resistance, slip resistance and non-dusting. Sherwin-Williams’ technical flooring experts looked at their diverse range of Resuflake options for this specific application covering 800 sq metres.

BACKGROUNDClancy is one of the largest privately-owned construction firms in the UK. With over sixty years’ experience and a workforce of over 2,200, they have worked hard to develop a reputation as a well-run business offer essential services that help keep the UK running.CHALLENGEClancy contacted Frontier Pitts to install a Sliding Gate to secure the entrance of their prestigious HQ. As this gate would be the first and only access point to their HQ, incorporating the ‘Clancy’ branding on the gate was very important and therefore Frontier Pitts worked to incorporate the logo in the bespoke gate design.RESULTSliding Cantilevered GateFrontier Pitts popular model of Sliding Cantilevered Gate was installed with a Pedestrian Wicket Gate to the side. The made to order bespoke gate included the distinctive ‘Clancy’ logo, which was laser cut into sheet infill, positioned to the centre of the gate, and is clearly visible on approach to the headquarters. All Frontier Pitts Automatic Gates are installed in line with DHF Safety standards with a full Risk Assessment determining the most appropriate safety devices for each site’s requirements and users. Pedestrian guard rail secured the runback area of the sliding gate, with other safety devices including photocells, vehicle detector loops, safety edges and a traffic light system installed.Commenting on the installation, Clancy said:We chose Frontier Pitts as we wanted to find a company to develop a partnership with, who understood our requirements for this very custom project. We evaluated a number of suppliers and felt that Frontier Pitts truly understood how to make this gate personal to The Clancy Group with the designs and concepts provided. From start to end, we found the designers and fabricators adjusted and worked with us to make this gate just how we wanted. We also was impressed that the gate was manufactured in the UK and the feel the quality gives us the reassurance that this gate is here to stay a long time.Commenting on the installation, Sally Osmond, Brand & Development Manager said: “this is another installation of our Sliding Cantilevered Gate that we are very proud of after working closely with the client to deliver their expectations. Flitwick Football Centre, Bedfordhire - Codale Junior

Able Canopies Ltd

The BriefFlitwick Football Centre is a charity in Bedfordshire that aims to provide excellent opportunities to grow and develop sport in the local community of Flitwick. They had a 15m x 9m patio terrace on their grounds and required a canopy that would provide protection from the rain and the sun, so they could use it as a permanent marquee for events. They had browsed our website and liked the look of the Codale Junior Free-Standing Tensile Canopy and requested an estimate for a 15m x 9m structure. Shortly after, they also requested prices for 10m x 6m and 10m x 5m structures.Requesting prices for different sizes and products is a great way to discover your perfect shade and shelter solution that fits within your budget. We’re always happy to discuss your options and find the perfect product for both your needs and available funds. The Solution The volunteers at the football club were pleased with the prices and the specification of the Codale Junior, opting the 10m x 5m option and requested a full site survey so we could provide a firm quotation. To enable the football club to gain the maximum usage from their canopy, they were looking into the possibility of having lighting added to the canopy as well as side panels. These are both possible with the Codale Junior. Cables for lights can be run through the canopy posts as long as they are outdoor IP rated cables and are set within trunking. We also supply tensile fabric side panels for the Codale Junior that can be rolled up when not required. We can supply and install the side panels at a later date so there was no need for the club to make any commitment when ordering the canopy.Upon receipt of the canopy order, we organised a pre-site meeting to finalise the power connections, dimensions, access points, health and safety measures and contacts at the location. This is a standard procedure that applies to all canopy orders before the installation. At the pre-site stage, it was established that planning permission was required however, Able Canopies offer a free service and can submit planning documents, removing any unnecessary stress from our customers. A few years previous in 2019, we installed a canopy nearby at Flitwick Children’s Centre which also required planning permission, so having dealt with the local council before, we liaised with our existing contact to ensure we covered any issues that could arise, ensuring a speedy and smooth planning process. The Installation Once planning was approved, the canopy was installed as scheduled over two days in June 2021 and went ahead smoothly. The volunteers at Flitwick Football Club were pleased with their new shade and shelter structure and were looking forward to gaining a lot of use from it, especially as summer was in full swing.

FAAC Entrance Solutions UK

Providing a secure and reliable office entranceEDF are one of the UKs largest energy providers, with their head office serving as the strategic hub that plays a pivotal role in its overall functioning and success. At FAAC Entrance Solutions, we understand just how vital a secure and reliable entrance is to such an important business. From the initial design working with Pick Everard, we reviewed the best entrance solution, to meet the clients brief and requirements.Project Year: 2023Product: FAAC A1400 Slider with pocket screen & TK35 profileProduct: RD100 Revolving DoorProduct: Magnetic mWing Pedestrian GatesProduct: FAAC Airslide Sliding DoorProject Background: The facilities team at EDF wanted to increase security with a safe and secure entrance that would suit their ground structure. They wanted a full entrance solution with a revolving door at the end of a bridge with a sheltered glass tunnel leading up to a pair of automatic sliding doors and security lanes. As part of the project, we worked closely with the contractor Imtech Inviron Ltd and all the project team, whilst meeting all challenges along the way, we aimed to create the perfect solution without disrupting the space and flow of the foyer whilst entering and exciting the building.Solution: One key item was enabling staff to be able to enter the entrance corridor through a revolving door, providing a sustainable and weathertight area out of the weather, then having a secondary entrance through a pair of automatic sliding doors, therefore providing an improved entrance with high protection against all weather conditions. To comply with Part M of buildings regulations, we provided our unique FAAC Airslide automatic sliding door system, to ensure accessibility for all.Once inside the building, we installed a bank of 3 security lanes, to control the access for authorised users only and preventing unauthorised personnel from entering the building.Revolving door: The RD100, a power-assisted door, elevates functionality for any office entrance with pedestrian traffic. This compact revolving door accommodates various pedestrian flows effortlessly and at their preferred pace. Manually activated, pedestrians push the door to start. Once the smart system activates, it guarantees smooth movement in both directions, reducing effort and power use, easing entry/exit, and reducing the carbon footprint.Sliding door: Our FAAC A1400 sliding door’s innovative “energy saving” feature empowers this system to discern transit direction, meticulously optimizing opening and closing times. This functionality effectively prevents unnecessary air dispersion, even amid cross traffic occurrences. The resulting product is environmentally conscious, reliable, secure, technologically advanced and notably, cost effective in the long term.Pedestrian Gates: The Magnetic mWing Pedestrian Gate system ensures swift visitor flow with quick opening times and preset travel features, ensuring high-security standards in both monitored and unmonitored areas. Engineered for durability and comes with a unique surface finish.AIRSLIDE Sliding Door: FAAC supplied and installed 1 of our unique AIRSLIDE automatic sliding doors, with an integrated air curtain. An air barrier protects the entrance area from the cold in winter and the heat in summer, without dispersion. This solution, designed for automatic entrances, allows the air to be kept inside the building, thereby helping to reduce energy consumption. The AIRSLIDE system combines the automatic opening and air curtain systems into a single unit, with obvious aesthetic and functional advantages. Its sleek design makes it easy to integrate into any architectural perspective.Check out more of our Energy Solutions. For more information or assistance with any project, please contact enquiries.esuk@faactechnologies.com where we can provide expert guidance and detailed documentation.

GRP Rail Station Platform - Mountbridge Install | Case StudyThe Island Line and its associated infrastructure on the Isle of Wight in the UK has recently been upgraded to offer a more frequent service and introduce a refurbished fleet of Class 484 trains. Key to the project was creating improved accessibility between the train and the station platform to allow the new trains to operate effectively. This was achieved by deploying GRP Dura Platform panels from Dura Composites in conjunction with the Mountbridge™ system from Hammond ecs ltd to raise the platform gauge by up to 400mm at 5 stations on the Island Line, including Ryde Pier Head. The patented 40mm Dura Platform solution (Patent No GB 2 523 381) has a span of 1.5m per 5kN/m2 UDL and delivers multiple benefits in terms of faster, safer and easier installation, reducing time on site, therefore reducing disruption to passengers, and providing major cost savings versus traditional materials such as concrete. The platform panels can accommodate fully integrated tactile recesses, illumination of the coper and integrated heating to remove frost & ice build up and reduce the future maintenance burden of the platforms.

Bishop David Brown School, Woking

Bishop David Brown School, Woking

Boyco (UK) Ltd

Collaborating with PCP Contractors, Team BOYCO transformed the food technology room at Bishop David Brown School to create a space perfect for students to learn food and nutrition.Project ScopeLocated in Woking, Northwest Surry, Bishop David Brown School’s ethos is focused on ‘Enabling all to Excel’. To foster this environment, recent refurbishments have taken place. As part of this we worked to renew their food technology room; crafting kitchen workstations that seamlessly blend with the current school aesthetic whilst being fully functional for usage. The BOYCO WayBackgroundCatering to students who are learning to cook and working towards food and nutrition qualifications, BOYCO supplied and installed fully fitted kitchen areas, complete with appliances, cupboards, sinks, and workstations. MovementWorking closely with the customer to ensure their needs were met, our in-house design team designed the worktops of the workstations to be rounded at the ends.Eliminating any sharp corners, the rounded edges reduce obstructions allowing students to navigate more effectively, an essential requirement in a high-traffic classroom environment. Due to this classroom hosting an interactive, practical approach to learning, hot items are commonly carried within lessons. The rounded edges reduce the risk of students bumping into the surface. Accidental contact can occur, and therefore removing pointed edges of a square or rectangular shaped work surface contributes to a safe space. The softer edge of the worktop s is also a more comfortable option than the usual square. Students and teachers can both lean and touch the worktops whilst participating in practical food technology sessions, which enhances collaborations and creates a welcoming and engaging environment for all. ColourFinal selections of colours for the classroom took place to ensure that Team BOYCO both matched the preferences of Bishop David Brown School and that the chosen tones and pigments complement the overall design. It was decided to use a neutral colour palette for the food technology classroom.A fantastic choice, neutral colours give a contemporary aesthetic to the workspaces, whilst creating a calm atmosphere for students. Neutral colours are also a popular option due to their versatility; they complement the majority of accent colours enabling the food technology walls to be updated with different paint when desired.Want to learn more about Colour Theory in education spaces? Read BOYCO’s insights here. Seating OptionsDiffering what is commonly seen in a classroom, stools were selected as a seating option. A practical solution, they provide flexible seating due to matching the height of the worktops, along with ease of movement and storage where needed in learning. If they need to be moved from pathways when students are cooking this can easily be actioned; they can easily be stowed away, allowing students and teachers to use as much of the classroom space as possible. Bespoke ProductsTried and trusted for over 60 years, we are dedicated to providing long-lasting solutions for our customers, and this was no different for Bishop David Brown School. Specific focus was on creating a lasting and efficient learning space, whilst still offering an eye-catching appearance. DurabilitySolid Grade Laminate worktops were chosen for the kitchen area. Durable and highly resistant to wear and tear, they were a perfect match to the customers’ requirements. Even under heavy daily use by teachers and students, the worktops will remain in great condition. This longevity allows focus on learning rather than teachers and students having to think about preventing damage the workspace. SGL is also a non-porous material, which in the food technology classroom contributes to the school’s excellent hygiene standards as spills can easily be cleaned and worktops maintained. For schools, Solid Grade Laminate is also a great choice due to its cost-effectiveness. A robust option with low maintenance upkeep, they are a great long-term option for learning spaces that require specialist surfaces. Even with exposure to the use of knives and other kitchen tools; scratches, cuts, and heat damage do not appear as easily, creating a fantastic lasting appearance in the food technology rooms. AppliancesAlong with BOYCO’s built to last fixed furniture products, the following appliances were installed:For storage of perishable food, refrigerators were included, providing students with quick access to ingredients when participating in practical learning. Ovens and hobs for each workstation were also installed. An essential for effective cooking, they allow Bishop David’s students to explore various recipes and techniques to encourage food health knowledge and safety. Ensuring that as much space as possible was used, the appliances are integrated, rather than stand-alone. To contribute to the cleanliness of the food technology room, dishwashers were selected due to their ability to quickly wash cooking equipment and utensils, getting the classroom ready for the next lesson. Storage in the ClassroomPerfect for aprons, chef whites, and storing students coats and bags, our market leading 'Hot Dip' nylon-coated peg rails were also installed. ‘Unbreakable’, the specialist coating creates unparalleled abrasion resistance – 500x that of powdered coating alternatives. Even with daily student usage, our pegs stay functional, due to the resistance against chips, scratches, and wear over time. Promoting independence and tidiness, food technology students can organise their belongings, which if left in the workstation aisles pose a tripping hazard along with a health and safety risk.Along with abrasion resistance, our ‘Hot Dip’ nylon also offers anti-microbial resistance, offering protection against 99% of all known bacteria. This is beneficial for the classroom, as due to it being a food preparation yet high touch point space, it is another step of contribution to the health and safety standards required in the school. Project SuccessOn completion of the project, both BOYCO and PCP contractors came together to view the final finished food technology room. A great result, the food technology classroom is now fully fitted with bespoke high-quality furniture and appliances, enhancing the learning experience of Bishop David’s students by optimising the functionality of the space. Perfect for practical learning, students are now able to explore different aspects of home economics and food nutrition, inspiring the next generation of careers such as chefs. teachers now also have a fantastic space to teach pupils, knowing that the selected ‘Built to Last’ furniture solutions will stand the test of time even in the busy environment of the food technology classroom, something of which Team BOYCO are proud to have contributed to.When we chatted to the customer post project, they expressed how pleased they were with the final result, with PCP contractors saying…"Overall the project has been a complete success and the Client is over the moon with the workmanship and product. Your fitters are tip top, see you on the next one". Ready to transform an education space? Bicester Village is a designer outlet centre situated on the outskirts of Bicester, a town in Oxfordshire. It opened in 1995 and has become hugely popular. Hugo Boss, the luxury fashion brand, selling clothing, accessories and footwear needed advice for their textured tiled floor in their new store opening at the designer outlet. The beautiful high texture tiled floor was calculated to be approximately 300m2. When considering such a large expanse of tile it is important to use movement joints. Hard flooring expands and contracts, a movement joint prevents the tiles and grout from cracking and deboning.

Dura Composites Ltd

Work to restore Harlow Town rail station’s faded exterior to its former glory has won a national award. Train operator, Greater Anglia, which manages the Grade II listed station, replaced all the old station canopy fascias with new ‘Hollybush Green’ colour Dura Dagger Board fascias – which will be maintenance free and prevent the colour from fading for many years to come. The work, which was made possible thanks to funding from the Railway Heritage Trust, has received the BAM Nuttall Partnership Award at the National Railway Heritage Awards. The original plywood of the fascias was over 60 years old and had come to the end of its life. At some point, the original green colour had been painted white, dramatically altering the look and character of the station. In close collaboration with Greater Anglia and historical building consultants, we prepared samples and designs for approval. With Dura Composites able to replicate the old hollybush green colour in a composite material without the need for regular repainting, the Railway Heritage Trust supported the upgrade work to make the station fascias fit for the future. Composite fascia replacements were carried out across all platforms, the overbridges and on the station forecourt.

Kendal College, Cumbria

Boyco (UK) Ltd

Collaborating with John Turner Construction, Team BOYCO was approached to transform Kendal College’s newly built T-Level Construction Block with our fixed furniture solutions, with the customer requesting Worktops, Cupboards, and Shelving.Project ScopeLocated on the outskirts of the Lake District, Kendal College focuses on its ethos of 'Creating Bright Futures'. Offering a variety of courses, from A-Level to Degree, to a range of ages they sought to enhance their classroom space and create a practical yet comfortable learning environment. The BOYCO Way BackgroundA requirement from the client was for the product to be manufactured and installed as whole package something which BOYCO, with our own British Factory and expert installation team, was readily available to provide.Due to tools being frequently used as part of the learning experience and construction curriculum; it was important for the worktops in the T-Level block to be robust and able to withstand repeat impact.Due to this, our in-house team of designers opted to use Econo-Top worktops. Suitable for workstations, the material boasts optimal scratch and wear resistance; perfect for the construction-focused classroom, and therefore a great choice for the customer.Merinolam FR+ Laminate Sheet, in the style of ‘Castle Concrete’, was used on the exterior of the worktop after our sales team provided samples of different options to the contractor, to support with final design decisions. Not only did this add to the durability due to its phenolic resin coating which creates flame retardant properties, but it was cost-effective and provided a clean aesthetic finish to the classroom worktops. Quality Bespoke Products5 Tier adjustable shelving was installed within the Construction Block Storerooms. As per the BOYCO standard, all our metal work has been processed with our ‘Hot Dip’ Nylon coating. 500x abrasion-resistant than the next powdered coating alternative, it is easily able to withstand daily usage by the students for many years to come. This is particularly vital in a construction learning environment, where heavy and sharp tools are frequently used, therefore reflecting BOYCO’s ‘Built to Last’ exceptional quality. Our ‘Hot Dip’ Nylon also contains Anti-Microbial properties. Formulated to stop bacteria from surviving on its surface, it prevents the spread of 99% of all known bacteria. Beneficial to Kendal College, it contributes to the health and well-being of all in the classroom and complies with school safety standards. In addition to the adjustable shelving, fixed Wall Cupboards were installed in the Workshops. This storage solution ensures that students have easy access to the materials and items that they need to keep close to hand whilst working on the worktops below. The multiple storage areas help to keep the Workshop environments tidy due to equipment being organised behind the cupboard doors.Whilst completing the works on site at the College, we were notified that underfloor heating was present in the areas that BOYCO were due to fit out. We were quick to work closely with John Turner Construction to provide a solution to ensure that this wouldn’t impact the design and install. This was not a problem for us, as with over 60 years of heritage in the manufacturing business, we overcame this obstacle by utilising suitable shallow screws and fixings to avoid puncturing the structure underneath. Project SuccessThroughout the project, from design to install, Team BOYCO visited the site to ensure exceptional standards were delivered at each and every project touchpoint.Joining forces with John Turner Construction, we worked meticulously to ensure Kendal College’s requests were met. This resulted in the construction block being finished to an impeccable standard.Creating a fantastic end result, BOYCO is super proud to have worked on this project and to have positively contributed to the learning environment of future construction industry workers.
