Guido House is a private project located on Majorca island, a territory influenced by sunlight and sea breeze . For that reason, architect David Domínguez Rueda selected BSO system, roller blinds, and curtains for optimal solar control .This combination of Bandalux products allows for maintaining the interior temperature throughout the year, especially thanks to the Outdoors Venetian blinds (BSO) . It’s possible to achieve up to 10 % energy savings regarding the adjustable inclination of the slats, which allows them to be adapted to all solar incidence angles . They completely close the façade to light and heat . It’s also a highly resistant system to weather conditions and is made with durable materials .Inside the house, the architect installed roller blinds to complement the control solar functionality, and curtains as a perfect aesthetic complement .

Casa OM is part of an innovative design part of the houses JIA, developed by the architect Gabriel Gomera . The concept aims to re -connect people with nature thanks to sensible and smart architecture, using a modular system . Our BSO, or outdoor Venetians blinds , provide optimal sunlight management and complement the large glazed surfaces thanks to their complete integration in the façade . The rustproof materials are designed for durability, safety in harsh weather and resilience through time . It also promotes efficiency, flexibility but also, comfort and well -being spaces 

The biggest challenge of this project was the climate conditions of the location, because of high temperatures and sunlight needs. Also, the purpose of building a Passivhaus home determines its architecture and design : minimalist and sober with a rectangular structure to make the most of isolation elements .The architects combined two of our systems: BSO on the façade and Premium Plus inside. Outdoor Venetian blinds afford highly effective protection from heat and precision sunlight management, contributing to energy savings.Premium Plus roller blinds are completely integrated into the design, being installed in curtain rods and going unnoticed when closing them. They have been configurated with Polyscreen ® 550 - White Pearl color, a fabric with excellent thermal protection, managing up to 94 % of solar heat . Gtote=0,06 – Gtoti = 0.24).

The project is distributed on several buildings connected by a corridor , completely bathed in light, but under sustainable and ecological purposes. Our Premium Plus roller shades contribute to cover its high ceilings and provide perfect sunlight management in the classrooms while maintaining the views. The combination with the Polyscreen ® 351 White allows great solar reflection, and acoustic absorption. They contributed to achieving the LEED Platinum Certification, being the first university to get it in the entire world.

The Opera 35 project is a boutique hotel developed as an existing building extension. Its location offers extended views over the garden and courtyard, reason why solar control solutions were required.The large windows provide plenty of natural light. Indoor curtains provide a textured effect, but do not provide the privacy that guests need.Our Arion motorized roller blinds have been chosen to protect the building's exterior. Their 5 meters high position gives dynamism to the façade without changing its style and elegance, at the same time that they guarantee an optimal solar control.The blinds have a Polyscreen® 351 fabric that offers a 10% openness factor. The Pebbles color has been chosen to match the project tones and provide an optimal optical factor.

Majunga Tower is a reinvention of an office block. The facades are articulated thanks to 3 bands, over 39 storeys reaching 195 meters high. This singular building has a double-skin envelop. It is made out of glass and aluminum, to allow natural light into the offices while keeping the views and a visual connection to its context. Our motorized BSO with C50 blades are integrated into this facade for complete adaptability of light and shades throughout the day. This efficient system cut lighting and air-conditioning energy consumption.

Extension and renovation of an existing building in front of Lake Como, Italy.The building is able to manage on its own: once the construction is finished, thanks to the geothermal, solar thermal, photovoltaic, controlled ventilation and air conditioning systems, coordinated through home automation management, the building can be considered to all effects as energetically independent.

Ikon Tower is an ambitious residential project located in Valencia (Spain) and designed by Ricardo Bofill architect. Nowadays, is the tallest building in the city with a hundred meters. The building was designed thinking in its inhabitants. The common areas include a gym, a swimming pool with a solarium, a gourmet area, and a Mediterranean garden. Being a skyscraper, light management was another important part of Bofil’s work. The façade has big openness in which our Zi-Box roller shades replace the classic shutters. They are configured with a blackout fabric that provides visual, acoustic, and thermal comfort. Thanks to its Easy Zip guides, the Zi-Box system offers total concealment and privacy. 

The highly skilled decorating team ensured all areas of the castle, including the state drawing room, library, whiskey room and Baron's Hall, were all given a finish befitting of a multi-million pound development. The decorators were indebted to a variety of products from the Johnstone's range, including Stormshield Pliolite Masonry, Flexible Undercoat & Gloss system and Acrylic Durable Matt. The team took full advantage of Johnstone's colour matching technology to ensure the new colours matched the existing colours that have been in place for over 100 years.

The extensive refurbishment of The Mill House in Wiltshire, has been successfully achieved through using Johnstone’s Trade Professional range. Mouland’s extensive scope of work included the use of Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt to give the interior walls and ceiling a wipeable finish. Part of Johnstone’s Ecological Solutions range with minimal VOCs, Johnstone’s Covaplus has the added benefit of lessening its impact on the environment. In addition, Johnstone’s Eggshell, which is specially formulated for interior use on wood and metal surfaces, was used to provide a smooth and washable condensation-resistant finish.

A wedding venue that showcases a Historic England perfectly has been transformed using Johnstone’s decorative paints. Specified for its high quality finish and whiteness properties, Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt in off-white was used to paint the elegant hallway of the grade 1 listed building. As well as being applied on the walls and ceilings of the spectacular reception. Johnstone’s Acrylic Durable Matt was used in the food and bar area, due to its outstanding durability. Additionally, Johnstone’s Satin Woodstain was used on the hand rails of the balconies to protect the wood from decay.

Scientific research into the development of new cancer treatments across the UK is vital, with accurate new medicines and therapies, such as immuno‐oncology, being introduced to help ensure an increase in survival rates among patients. In line with the developments, new cancer care centres are being opened to provide these bespoke treatments for patients. Building Design Partnership (BDP), an international architecture firm, was appointed to design a new 11-storey cancer centre in the heart of Liverpool – the city’s first dedicated cancer hospital that comes as part of a £162 million investment in cancer centres in the region. With cleanliness, hygiene and inclusive design in mind, BDP turned to PPG Architectural Coatings to provide a Johnstone’s Trade paint specification for Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Liverpool. In an environment where cleaning, sanitation and hygiene practices are of the highest importance, BDP needed to provide a coatings solution that could be thoroughly cleaned regularly, while retaining a high-quality finish and colour. On the recommendation of the project’s main contractor, Laing O’Rourke, BDP specified a range of Johnstone’s Trade paints including Acrylic Durable Matt. Acrylic Durable Matt is a premium emulsion, designed to provide a tough, durable finish. With a Class 1 Scrub Rating, it is ideal for high traffic areas that need regular cleaning – such as healthcare environments. The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre provides specialist chemotherapy and other drug therapies and services so, when it came to specifying paints, it was critical that BDP provided a durable solution with hygiene and quality in mind. As the building will be home to a high number of vulnerable patients and need to be extremely clean at all times, it was crucial that the paint chosen could withstand regular wear and be cleaned and scrubbed regularly, without compromising on quality or colour. For BDP, Acrylic Durable Matt was the perfect solution. Johnstone’s Trade Microbarr Anti Bacterial Acrylic Matt was also used in the Brachytherapy Suite, and HDR and Anaesthetic rooms. Formulated using Silver Ion technology, the coating is a suitable choice for healthcare settings like Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool as it to prevent the spread of harmful bacteria and infections, while having a tough, easily washable finish. Another consideration throughout the cancer centre was design and colour. BDP proposed a colour scheme that tied the building and departments together, starting with the referencing of one of The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust’s corporate colours at the main entrance levels. BDP wanted to create an environment that was inclusive for all patients, visitors and staff within the centre, taking into account dementia-friendly design while also matching the Trust’s colours – the output of their design needed to be the perfect balance. PPG helped them to do this with its colour-matching service. They worked in collaboration to develop the colour scheme and submitted that to a Dementia Focus Group for their approval before decoration took place at the centre, to ensure the design took into account their needs as well as looking good. BDP used the bold Trust colours in the reception areas within the building, and worked with PPG to create tonal variations that were used throughout the corridors and rooms on each floor. Each floor had its own colour identity from the PPG Voice of Colour collection. A calming range of blues such as Mystic Iris and Ocean Skies were included within the inpatients ward, contrasting with bright, bold greens such as Be Spontaneous and Funky Frog in the reception area.

Stowmarket High School, a new purpose built education facility to replace its former 1950’s building, was built under the Department of Education’s Priority Schools’ Building Programme. Understanding that the school was subject to high usage and frequent traffic, it was important to use coatings that would stand the test of time. With this in mind, coatings from PPG’s JOHNSTONE’S® Trade brand were used to bring the project to life while ensuring that the surfaces within the school were protected.

Civic Court is an imposing Grade II-listed structure in the heart of Leeds. Many of the building’s period features had been covered up and forgotten about during renovation work in the 1990s, so it was the job of Greens Decorating Contractors, together with lead contractor Estilo Interiors, to carefully and skilfully restore these historic features. Working under the supervision of English Heritage, over a period of three months a team of six used a range of Johnstone’s Trade and PPG coatings to give the building a new lease of life.

Shopping centres are at the heart of most major cities across the UK. As popular, high-traffic destinations, these buildings require regular upkeep in order to maintain a high-end finish. One such example is Resorts World in Birmingham, a modern shopping, dining and entertainment destination that attracts visitors from across the Midlands and beyond. When tasked with renovating Resorts World, architects and interiors practice Alexander Owen Architecture (AO) and painting contractor, Bagnalls, turned to PPG Architectural Coatings and its paint brand Johnstone’s Trade for its wide range of colour.

Johnstone’s Trade has put in another crowd-pleasing performance, this time as part of the extensive refurbishment of Wembley Stadium. The stadium’s high-traffic internal spaces, including entrance vestibules and corridors, have been decorated to an exceptionally high standard by Alldec Northern using Johnstone’s Acrylic Durable Matt to provide an attractive, highly durable paint finish. The use of Johnstone’s Acrylic Durable Matt enabled Alldec Northern to successfully deliver the contract within a tight three-month time frame despite the fact that the stadium remained in use throughout

International hotel chain Hotel Indigo provides accommodation in various locations around the globe. Starting in 2004, with its first venture in midtown Atlanta, across the road from the famous Fabulous Fox Theatre, the company now develops and runs luxury hotels around the world in the most sought-after locations, from Rome to Hong Kong. Hotel Indigo’s first Manchester establishment was recently developed, and required a considered decoration to unify two different styles of architecture.

Colour experts from Johnstone’s Trade have joined forces with leading artists to create a visually stunning environment for patients at a hospital in Bradford. Bradford-based building and shopfitting contractor, PEC Building and Shopfitting, used Johnstone’s Acrylic Eggshell in off white for the main wall areas and Acrylic Durable Matt for the striking colours required for the feature walls.The two products were not just specified for their aesthetic qualities, however, as both provide excellent durability and are easy to clean; making them ideal for use in a busy hospital environment.

The unrivalled durability of Johnstone’s Trade’s Endura Super Durable Matt has been put through its paces at the £27 million Trinity Academy in Halifax.With thousands of pupils attending the school, the need for a paint that would withstand the rigours of heavy traffic was paramount so Johnstone’s Endura Super Durable Matt was duly specified for its outstanding durability and aesthetic properties. Johnstone’s Water-Based Aqua Gloss system was used for the interior woodwork throughout the Academy after becoming the natural successor to solvent-based trim paints, which have been impacted by legislation in recent years.

Fourteen products from Johnstone’s extensive range have been awarded the coveted EU Ecolabel accreditation and it was Johnstone’s Ecological Covaplus Vinyl Matt from this range that was used. The walls and ceilings of the Castle now boast a finish that is resistant to fading and yellowing, as well as ensuring they have a wipeable surface, excellent opacity, and even better colour retention

Johnstone’s Trade has played a starring role in the refurbishment of an old theatre, which is now a popular pub in Ipswich. Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt proved the perfect choice for the huge expanses of wall surface and the large ceiling in the pub, which retained its high ceilings as a key part of the design. Set on a large plot of land in Louth, Yew Tree Cottage was a tired-looking building in desperate need of renovation. Having undergone various changes over the years, the exterior of the property featured a variety of mismatched substrates, both new and old. This, coupled with a recent extension to almost double the size of the building presented a daunting task when it came to turning this traditional property into an inviting and modern home.

A variety of products from Johnstone’s Trade’s Ecological Solutions range have played their part in ensuring a new £74 million state-of-the-art campus building for Kirklees College has received a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’.The team decorated the vast majority of the building’s interior with Johnstone’s Acrylic Durable Matt and Covaplus Vinyl Matt; two core products from the range. City of London Freemens first opened in Brixton in 1854 for ‘the maintenance and the religious and virtuous education of orphans of Freemen of the City of London’. Paid for by the Corporation of London both boys and girls were enrolled from the outset making it the one of the oldest co-educational independent schools.In 1926 the school moved to Ashtead Park in Surrey. The Grade II* listed Main House at Ashtead Park had been the home of Sir Robert Howard, Chancellor of the Exchequer during the 17th century.In 2016 an ambitious development project was commenced, due to span the next decade. The modernisation of the Main House, now the Sixth Form Centre, involved a redesign of the building and the new layout required fire screens to ensure the building met with current Building Regulations. Clement Windows Group supplied the internal fire rated doors and screens at the top of the adjacent internal stairs which are access controlled and linked into the main fire control of the building.

Developer Manchester Life is transforming the residential market in the city of Manchester and Senior Architectural Systems is proud to have partnered with them to create a number of apartment schemes including Cotton Field Wharf, Weavers Quay and New Little Mill. Lampwick Quay is the fourth and most recent project to have been undertaken by Senior as part of this successful repeat business relationship.Located in Manchester’s thriving new community in Ancoats, the new Lampwick Quay development comprises 213 apartments across three blocks of five, six and ten-storeys, with ground floor retail units and communal facilities including a gym and residents club room. A mix of Senior’s aluminium windows, commercial doors and curtain wall solutions have been used extensively throughout the development and installed by supply chain partner Aire Valley Architectural Aluminium for main contractor John Sisk & Son Ltd.To help reduce heat loss and energy costs, Senior’s low U value and Part L compliant PURe® aluminium casement windows have been installed to each of the apartments to create a comfortable living space. The stylish window system also provides the perfect frame for the development’s views of Manchester’s New Islington Marina.Energy-efficiency has also been addressed in the communal, retail and ground floor areas through the use of Senior’s thermally-enhanced SF52 aluminium curtain wall system which maximises the controlled use of use of natural light.To meet the scheme’s stringent safety and security requirements, Senior’s robust SPW501 aluminium commercial doors were installed to the main entrance and exit points. The SPW501 commercial door system is ideally suited to high pedestrian use and meets the requirements of Secured By Design. Key elements of the fenestration package have also been designed to work as part of the scheme’s overall passive fire protection strategy, with the use of Senior’s SPW600 automatic opening ventilation (AOV) aluminium windows in the communal areas and stairwells. Although visually similar to Senior’s popular SPW600 system, these AOV windows are fitted with a smart actuator which allows for quick and automatic ventilation in the event of a fire, helping to remove smoke from the air.The development’s low pitch sawtooth roof design pays homage the area’s industrial heritage, with the slim aluminium frames of the fenestration package further complementing the main façade of zinc cladding, brick and coloured panels. Finborough School, an independent day and boarding school based in situated in the village of Great Finborough, near Stowmarket, Suffolk, has recently added a brand new Science and Art building to its complex, comprising of art rooms, a photography suite and five science laboratories, along with the refurbishment of the original science and art rooms into additional classrooms for senior and 6th form students.

The Wren Academy sponsored by the Diocese of London and situated in Friern Barnet North London, recently underwent large-scale regeneration.What started out as a refurbishment project, with some new build, soon became a new build academy, with some refurbishment. A total budget of 23 million was used to turn the Academy into a fine example of a 21st century school.Architects Penoyre & Prasad, already praised for their education projects with two RIBA awards, created a unique learning environment for the pupils, who are actively encourage to take ownership of the school. The new building section of the site includes a new entrance, teaching blocks, library and toilet facilities, for which GEC Anderson supplied three special feature wash troughs within the uni-sex toilets.The facilities area has kept with the open air feel in line with the rest of the new build. The anti-bullying concept of a light and airy space, without a door to main washroom area, also promotes maturity and responsibility.The wash troughs in the toilet area created a slight industrial, but professional and clean look. There also offer water saving advantages over a standard sink or basin configuration.Martin Tye, managing director of GEC, said “The academy is a great example of modern design and architecture and for our products to be specified is a great honour and achievement.”“The wash troughs were of particular significance, architecturally, as they were seen to provide the flow and contemporary design that is simply not available with alternative materials” added Martin.
