A state of the art building solely designed to build, run and service Aston Martin’s Formula 1 racing vehicles. Built by the side of the historic Silverstone Grand Prix racing track in Northamptonshire.The Brief in BriefThe project requirements demanded good DB ratings, full height doors, privacy for Mission Control with Smart Glass and privacy to Exec area with blinds. An Atrium to flood light into the ‘street’ below. Plus offices, meeting rooms, a Mission Control racing hub, a large Atrium screen over indoor areas, open plan design offices, breakout and communal areas.Komfort’s SolutionPrior to the start of the project we had numerous pre-start meetings with the design team and H&S visits with our external advisors to ensure the project would run smoothly from the start.To achieve a system and design the client desired, Komfort built mock-up sample office onsite during the design stage to highlight the design elements such as acoustic double glazed glass in Polar 100 and our deflection head system. We also supplied samples of our blinds, with the system in situ to demonstrate the operating fixtures and fittings. All samples were supplied in the clients choice of colour including matt black blinds to match the trackwork.The double glazed full length Atrium required teams working on both sides of the glass, installation from the office side and safety (fall arrest) from the street side. The atrium glazing over the machine shop area required glass lifting equipment, to ensure the fire rated glass could be sealed properly from both sides.The client made numerous changes to the design during installation, which had to be accommodated. The final project involved 800 sqm of glass and 50+ Sonik doors throughout the building site. It was a challenge and one that Komfort rose to admirably.The end resultModern open plan offices with a selection of meeting rooms. Large executive offices with blinds/locks for privacy. Recently, M Moser Associates moved into a newly refurbished office space in St Magus House, benefitting from unrivalled river views. As M Moser Associates have been working with Billi on many projects for many years, they decided to have the Billi Taps in their own office.

This large refurbishment will see all floors of their existing building being completely reconfigured and re-designed that sees a new cafe/bar and staff gym/studio along with a studio mock shop space and office expansion.

Modular skylights improving office and warehouse conditions using natural lightThe VELUX Modular Skylight system was installed as part of a new combined office and warehousing space for third generation fabric design company, ROMO Fabrics. The use of natural light proved essential to the project and so 348 modules of the VELUX Modular Skylight system were specified and installed across the building. This included a VELUX Ridgelight solution to accentuate the entrances of the atrium and offer a glimpse of the internal space, as well as a VELUX Northlight solution within the office and design studios to provide soft, reflective lighting and a natural feel to the workspace.

The Bard’s construction after experts from MoLA (Museum of London Archaeology) found remains of Shakespeare’s original wooden O stage and two sections of an exterior wall. With this, the opportunity arose to develop the area into a public open space with mixed offices, retail and residential apartments. This scheme became The Stage, where The Bard building was built.ChallengeWith various public access routes and private offices making up The Stage, the extensive fit-out had to include suitable security on The Bard offices to prevent unauthorised people from entering the building. This dramatic refurbishment was completed in time to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the restaurant. OverviewHerefordshire Council needed to replace the existing fresh air ventilation unit at Halo Leisure Pool. The unit was old, with several attempts made to improve the pool hall humidity and the unit’s energy efficiency over the years, however it had never worked well.RequirementRecotherm were tasked with creating a bespoke, energy efficient replacement unit. Our engineers worked on various different configurations to utilise heat recovery whilst still maintaining the existing inlet and outlet positions. Avoiding the existing unit’s method of a run-around coil system meant we were able to design and build a bespoke unit that incorporated recirculation, allowing humidity control.SolutionThe existing 20 year old unit was 8m tall, supported by a welded steel frame; utilising scaffolding and reciprocating saws we were able to remove the unit ready for the new installation.A steel table was constructed to take the weight of our new unit, which had been delivered on-site in flat pack form. Aldgate Tower is an office development that comprises 16 floors of Grade A revolutionary office space.ROCKWOOL products were specified for the insulation of pipework.A combination of non-combustible products provided thermal performance for the lifetime of the building, as well as providing a sustainable solution for the building that helped meet the BREEAM requirements for an 'Excellent' rating. 

The World Trade Centre in Marseille is a multi-functional office space with a conference and business centre. With a daily footfall of almost 1000 people spread over the 2500m2 of the convention centre and 600m2 of the business centre, the new space at City Center Vieux-Port underwent a redesign and renovation to accommodate a busy office environment.

The new site comprises a 20-cell custody suite and a three-storey office building, which accommodates more than 300 officers and staff and provides both Northamptonshire Police and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, which shares the office building, with modern, 21st century facilities. Marshalls provided a range of products from the Landscape Protection portfolio for the exterior space, including Geo bollards, Geo seating, a Pluto cycle shelter and bespoke concrete planters. When the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) were looking to move into their new Head Office, just off Princess Street in the heart of Edinburgh, Michael Laird Architects asked Planet Partitioning to put together a specification for the Category B fit-out of the existing building. Working closely with Souness & Boyne, Planet Partitioning used p100 frameless double glazing system throughout to create meeting rooms and offices with high acoustic performance, in a simple grey design. The eight-week job also involved installing minimal framework double glazed doors throughout the offices, to complement the p100 double glazed partitions.

111 The Strand, is an eight storey landmark office and retail building in central London. The property occupies a corner position on the Strand with a return frontage to Savoy Place. The majority of the 30,549 ft² office space is let to CVC Capital Partners.The iconic building is well-known for its contemporary appearance. The limestone façade with metal frames with curved bays of stone and glass, and a stone relief depicting the surrounding area truly stands out.With the recent acquisition of the long leasehold office building, the private equity firm CVC Advisors Ltd found it time for a complete refurbishment. The existing reception area and office floor 1 to 6 were stripped and upgraded to Category-B Standard. This is inclusive of new MEPH installations and a commercial kitchen fit out to service the meeting room suites and dining areas.Stravifloor Channel, a floating floor system using isolated steel channels with proprietary elastomeric pads, four layers of plywood, and a special damping layer was installed in the catering kitchen on the 5th floor of this fit-out project. The isolated steel batten system with enhanced stiffness was designed to minimise the transfer of impact noise to the office floors below.During the installation, an elastic Perimeter Strip was applied around the floors’ perimeter, to completely decouple it from the building structure.

The office had decided against the use of glasses and mugs in favour of individual and re-usable travel mugs for each member of staff. They wanted a tea point that reflected this dedication to sustainability. With over 200 members of staff and a modern monochrome aesthetic throughout the office, Gymshark decided a Matte Black Billi was the right fit.

The UK’s leading telephone answering specialist Moneypenny had steadily been growing since its inception in 2000. Its main business is looking after telephone calls for businesses.To no one’s surprise, the company found itself struggling for space to accommodate its ever-expanding workforce. Staff ended up occupying five adjacent offices, which were physically separated from each other, as was the staff.A solution had to be found. It was decided to invest in and create a new modern office building befitting the growth and success of a successful modern-day enterprise.Moneypenny engaged the help of AEW architects to design a new and exciting office environment. With space to house 1,000 staff, Moneypenny wanted to have a new headquarters, which were both efficient office spaces, as well as a great environment for its staff to operate in. Staff members were asked for ideas for their new work environment. The industry norm was challenged and the resulting designs were an antithesis to most modern office buildings.Pochin Constructions were chosen as the main contractor to build the new headquarters. Ingram Micro is one of the largest distributions of IT products and services in the world. The new office in Diegem, Belgium, is a large rectangular space with little daylight. When designing the new office not one wall was allowed to connect straight to another. Everything had to be slanted to enhance this concept, a herringbone design from Allura LVT was chosen for this floor.

Leicester based fabricators SB Aluminium Services were key to the success of the transformation of the offices of Crowland Cranes in Peterborough. The makeover of the business premises was driven by the desire to create a modern and striking frontage to the offices. Kestrel Aluminium System’s low rise curtain wall, 60mm windows and commercial doors were specified throughout the building.

The project comprised a large office development of approximately 16,660 square meters of office floor space arranged over 7 storeys.Situated in the business centre of London in one of the London Borough of Camden’s conservation areas, Finsbury Square utilised the traditional Portland Stone element of the surrounding buildings and combined it with contemporary design practices.

Whilst certainly not the most iconic or largest project the A1S Group has ever been involved with, 125 Deansgate in Manchester in many ways represents for us "a bread and butter project", the like of which we are involved with throughout the UK on an almost monthly basis. Despite the doom and gloom of office rationalisation during the pandemic, high end office new build and cat A and B refurbishment continues to be one of our strongest sectors. We have completed literally hundreds of office projects over the last decade including We Work premises throughout London and the UK, Goldmann Sachs, Barclays at Canary Wharf and Norfolk House in St James Square, London. Fire and smoke curtains continue to be integral to modern office design, allowing for more open spaces within the building's wider fire strategy framework. The A1S Group manufactured, installed 54 Flameshield fire curtains, all with smoke seals and multi function panels. For us, the 125 Deansgate building was noteworthy as it was the first time that we installed our high performance Flameshield EW120 fire curtain to provide a minimum of EW90 compartmentation. We also manufactured and installed our a Flameshield fire and smoke curtain system to provide 120 minutes integrity and 15 kw/m2 to protect the lift and lift shaft. This striking building is clad in a rich red terracotta with 12 storeys of flexible office and retail space all achieving BREEAM 'excellent' and is now considered one of Manchester's premier offices. The A1S Group have a long term planned preventative maintenance in schedule in place to comply with the 2005 Regulatory Reform Order.

Chichester House was a redevelopment of office space inthe heart of Belfast City Centre. The redevelopment converted the building into a mixed-use space with Grade A office and retail space.The original structure, known as Londonderry House, wastransformed adding an additional 3 storeys to existing 6.The building’s location also proved a challenge as spaceand access were restricted.

Situated in East London, Royal Albert Dock is an exciting regeneration project worth £1.7bn. The new commercial district boasts 4.7 million sq ft of office, residential, retail and leisure spaces. The finished office building boasts a welcoming design with zoned areas in Amtico LVT and carpet to sensitively balance wellness in the workplace with efficiency.

As the country embarks on post-lockdown life and, for many, a return to the office, what might the future look like for the workplace washroom? The new office called ‘The Workshop’ positioned at the heart of Lonsdale Square was officially opened in the summer, it provides their growing team with a fully flexible workplace supported by a dedicated VR environment, garden and space to inspire. With over 40 members of staff and a modern aesthetic throughout the office, HLW decided the two Matte Black Billi systems was the right fit.

To meet the modern and collaborative design requirement, whilst also serving the function of private spaces, Komfort’s Kross Glaze 600 full transom glazed partitioning system and door sets were installed. Also, to complement the office design for both aesthetics and performance, a mixture of acoustic and feature reeded glass was installed to suit the independent office briefs.

Rutherford House is an imposing 58,000 sq ft office building located within the heart of Birchwood Park, Warrington, providing superior office space to rent for small, medium and large businesses employing up to 100 people. Consisting of two wings of three and five floors, the building has excellent natural lighting and is conveniently located for travel across the region. 

When bringing together multiple offices into a single iconic location in central Paris, Milliken's award winning Artistic Liberties and Tracing Landscapes design collections were chosen for Adecco's beautiful new office environment. These two carbon neutral collections were specified in sophisticated neutrals, with an added touch of decorative glamour, delivering a sense of luxury and comfort.

The Arc was a large and complex project with over 1,000,000 Brick Slip cuts and 235,000 Cut and Bonded Bricks. The Architects AHMM had chosen a bespoke blended product from our wider product range to create a random bond effect for the brickwork, this consisted of 126 different lengths of brick slips which all needed to be manufactured by ourselves.The Arc is a new mixed-use building in east London delivering new retail opportunities, office floorspace, 100 new homes, landscaped roof terraces and a new area of public realm onto City Road.The building is inspired by early 19th century New York towers with three stages of tiered massing in response to the surrounding context heights and Conservation Areas. There is a consistent treatment of the facade materiality across the building with vertically expressed brick piers and a horizontal concrete banding wrapping the building. This treatment relates to the adjacent Victorian warehouse aesthetics and is accented by the use of glazed brickwork in the first two levels.At ground level the main entrance is angled away from City Road and is set behind a two-storey colonnade, providing secure access for both the office and residential tenants. The office lobby design contrasts with the calm external appearance through the use of organic GRG elements developed by interior architects Massive Design. An area of affordable office space is proposed at ground level running through the building and linking Shepherdess Walk to Wellesley Terrace. Restaurants and cafes activate the street frontage around the site and the internal lobby space. Externally, retained elements of the former St Luke’s Parish Workhouse are integrated with a new public space and sculptural bench around the existing London plane tree.Levels one to six comprise the office component of the scheme providing 145,000 square feet of office floorspace. Above the office, at Level 07, the building steps back to form a slender element which contains the residential accommodation. The set-back also generates a large landscaped roof terrace with accompanying residents lounge. All the residential areas are designed by the interior architects Bowler James Bridley.

The Bourne Business Park in Weybridge Surrey has recently completed two new attractive office spaces totalling over 90,000 square feet. This smart office space built for La Salle Investment Management by Volker Fitzpatrick features new thinking in office design and features a range of metal fabrications on the external envelope manufactured and supplied by Metalline. Using high grade J57S UP aluminium, Metalline manufactured and supplied a range of aluminium pressed components. These included a specialist fascia panel that incorporated bespoke internal supports to ensure that the front face of the panels remained extremely flat together with heads, jambs and cills, for the window pods. To accentuate the flat clean lines of the building, Metalline produced a special secret internal dual toggle, which guaranteed that each panel was aligned correctly and there was uniformity across all the panels. Designed to attract the eye these smart office spaces feature panels and pressings finished in a specialist Regency Gold 2 anodised finish together with glazed in panels in RAL 7035 light grey that were also supplied by Metalline.

Wealth management experts Evelyn Partners’ (formerly Tilney, Smith & Williamson’s) relocation of their Leeds office to the vibrant Wellington Place district in the city centre aims to provide a truly modern working environment for their 85-strong team.The interior design of the space by Michael Laird Architects aimed to closely match the aesthetic used at the client’s head office in London, with timber elements and curved glazing combining to create a highly appealing set of meeting rooms and offices.Working through our northern contracting office, our team provided Parallel 50 (Rw 45 dB) double glazed partitions and Linear 30 (Rw 41 dB) single glazed partitions for the client’s boardroom, meeting rooms and small focus rooms. These were finished with a custom Pearl Beige powder coated finish to frames.Partitions combined with veneered European Oak acoustic timber doors and timber pilasters, with the latter expertly finished with room numbers routed and painted into the timber. Finally, two double leaf Hogan pivoting glass doors provided access to the large breakout space.

TVS Group were approached to reduce noise levels in certain areas of the new offices created for Protector Insurance. Working with the client and contractor, TVS proposed and supplied 125 no. TVS ABSorb Baffles wrapped in striking lobster-coloured Camira Lucia fabric. The client is delighted with the level of noise reduction achieved and the way the baffles integrate with the existing office colour scheme.
