An entrance that needed reviving and improved functionGeorge Eliot Hospital is based in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. It provides a full range of emergency and elective medical services to the local area, including maternity services.Project Year: 2022Product: UniturnProject Background: We were contacted directly from the hospital’s Estates Department to review an existing traditional sliding door entrance, with a view to proposing a solution to upgrade to a high capacity revolving door. An important need was to improve the temperature in the reception area, enabling climate control.The existing entrance lobby was too narrow to accommodate both the revolving door and necessary adjacent pass doors to meet Equal Access requirements and so we had to come up with a different solution.Solution: To overcome the narrow lobby entrance we proposed to locate the revolving door in front of the existing lobby’s footprint, which in turn required the building’s foundation slab to be extended under the revolving door location.This solution required detailed technical and design input from FES to the client’s nominated building contractor and design team to ensure that the build was both structurally sound, aesthetically pleasing and met the relevant building regulations.The Uniturn has improved accessibility in and out of the hospital and has provided energy savings and temperature control, resulting in a successful project.

Elevating aesthetics and safety at The Sienna Building, Basingstoke.Nestled in the heart of Basingstoke’s vibrant urban business park, The Sienna Building stands as a testament to modern design and urban regeneration. As part of the major mixed-use development orchestrated by Muse, a division of the Morgan Sindall Group, this striking Grade A office building includes a 288-space multi-storey car park, both designed to redefine Basingstoke’s town center.Our involvement in The Sienna Building project centered on providing bespoke riser doors, a crucial element in the overall safety and aesthetic considerations of the development. The project aimed to seamlessly integrate modern design with functional safety features, and we were proud to contribute to this vision.Beyond their functional significance, these doors were crafted with a bespoke touch to align seamlessly with the modern aesthetic of The Sienna Building. The incorporation of metal riser doors ensured compliance with safety standards while maintaining a sleek and contemporary appearance.In a commitment to design cohesion, our contribution extended to supplying tiled riser doors. These bespoke doors were specifically tailored to continue the flow of the wall, ensuring a harmonious and uninterrupted visual experience. The tiled riser doors not only served a functional purpose but also contributed to the overall aesthetic appeal, creating a polished and sophisticated look.

The London Aquatics centre was used during the London 2012 Games for swimming and diving. Dortek supplied hygienic doors to match the specification which was extremely durable, low maintenance doors which are resistant to moisture. Dortek GRP doors have permanent built in colour, are easy to clean and are unaffected by steam, chlorine and cleaning agents. This gives them low life cycle costs and means they are often proven to outlive their usage.They will not rust, swell, or warp even after years of exposure to moisture and water.

The basement of a chalet in the Waadtländer Alps was converted into a self-contained apartment. As fixed components of the multi-functional element, the sliding doors play a rhythmical game with the adjacent monochrome niches. When closed, the rear wall appears homogeneous as it is made completely of fir wood. The striking colour scheme that becomes visible when the doors are pushed to the side indicates various functions. The architects chose HAWA Junior 80 B hardware for the three sliding doors that run in a concealed track.

The former Gaumont Palace Theatre, a grade II listed building had been given a second life to become the Ellen Terry building for Coventry University. Kestrel Aluminium together with HTL Windows and Doors took on the project to give the building a fresh look and combine the historic style with the modern touch. As the building is a remembrance from the golden age of cinema the vital part was to create an elegant run of doors which matched the original façade using modern, thermally broken commercial entrance doors.

Doors in underground stations not only have to meet fire protection, security and safety requirements, but in particular they have to be able to handle pressure. This was also one of the key requirements for the doors of the new Crossrail stations in London. Here, security doors were required that had to be fire, sound and pressure resistant. Teckentrup was able to offer appropriate door solutions with corresponding conformity, which also complied with the revised, stricter version of LPS 1175 for proof of product certification. In addition, all required values for soft impact tests, structural strength data, „U“ values, cycle tests and life cycles could be met. This tipped the scales in favour of the German manufacturer when the project was awarded and, with the stations Whitechapel and Liverpool Street marked the start of a successful collaboration.

Working on the Ground Floor Lobby, First Floor Gym, Level 10 and Level 17, Planet’s southern contracting team provided an extensive range of fire-rated and non-fire rated partition and door solutions to Building D of the Nine Elms development in Battersea.In the Ground Floor Lobby, non-fire rated single-glazed automatic bi-parting sliding doors were installed along with with 3150mm high LOFT20 XL partitions with reeded film. IsoPro doors (40 dB Rw) provided access to co-working spaces and meeting rooms.FireTec Ei30 fire rated doors and LOFT transom bars provided exit route protection on Level 1 in communal areas and on Level 10 along with a FireTec Ei60 window.On Level 17, two FireTec Ei30 double door sets with overhead panels provided access to the indoor lounge area and bar area, while a single LOFT20 screen offered additional natural light passage between the lounge and adjoining demonstration kitchen.

With 145 rooms exquisitely designed with a modern flair, alongside a restaurant, bar, and coffee house, Lost Property promises a distinctive experience for travel enthusiasts seeking a memorable escape. The hotel’s central location offers convenient access to London’s iconic landmarks, including the Tate Modern, London Bridge, and Tower Bridge.Our team supplied bespoke riser doors strategically placed within the corridors. These doors serve a dual purpose – facilitating access to essential utility spaces while seamlessly blending into the overall design. The riser doors were carefully selected for their fire-resistant properties, ensuring compliance with safety standards without compromising on the hotel’s artistic vision.The key innovation lies in the wallpapering of the riser doors. The doors were expertly covered with wallpaper matching the surrounding area, effectively concealing their utilitarian function within the artistic tapestry of the hotel. Originally home to Pathé films and situated in the heart of London’s famous Soho district, The Pathé Building at109 Wardour Street is a newly refurbished developmentconsisting of 15 apartments. With exquisite interiors drawingon a classic British palette of textures, the apartments offer2-3 bedrooms with communal area and kitchen. With flatsretailing at the higher end of the market, it was imperativethat Allgood’s specification complemented the luxuryaesthetic of the apartments.Initial discussions revealed that the architect wanted tospecify the same finish throughout the entire building.This presented a challenge for Allgood as there wereseveral different types of doors and door colours:orange, white and grey. Allgood felt stainless steel,while a finish that would suit the décor, would not beappropriate for this type of residential building so abronze finish was agreed upon. The grey apartmentfront doors were supplied with bronze door closers,thumb turns, lever handles, hinges and flushbolts,whilst the bathroom doors were fitted with bronze pullhandles and thumbturns.The building also required signage to direct residentsand guests to various areas of the facility. However,the architect wanted to continue the bronze themeinto this so Allgood manufactured bespoke individualnumerals, letters and various symbols including abicycle in a bronze finish.Like with any central London residential building, spaceis an extremely valuable commodity. In order to maximisespace in the apartments, Allgood supplied bronze pocketdoor locking kits for all the bathrooms.

AEG Europe, new owners of the Millennium Dome have transformed London’s landmark in to a major entertainments facility. The redevelopment of the 02 Dome, valued at over £600million was completed by main contractor Sir Robert McAlpine. The Hilton Garden Inn is a global brand facet of the Hilton Worldwide group, with over 780 locations across the world. In the hotel’s lobby area, LOFT20 single glazed partitioning was installed, reaching 3500mm high. The designs were made to allow for vertical and horizontal polyester powder coated aluminium trims, set at different heights, to compliment the style of the hotel. IsoTec doors were used, reaching 3000mm in height, and the doors included LOFT style aluminium trims, bonded to both sides of the doors, to provide a uniform style throughout.

Yeoman Shield were assigned by main contractors Bauvill Construction to install a wall and door protection system as part of the scheme to create a new Cardiac Critical Care Unit (CCU) and Cardiology ward along with an access corridor at William Harvey Hospital in Kent.The access corridor was fitted with Yeoman Shield’s Guardian Twin Handrail in a stunning colour combination of burgundy and mid grey with matching accessories and attractive stainless steel connective brackets helping to add a unique touch to the décor of the area.Chosen for its dual functionality the Guardian Twin handrail incorporates an ergonomic upper handrail as support for people who require assistance and a lower robust protection rail, which sitting slightly forward guards both the handrail and the walls from marking and damage caused by the passage of wheeled equipment.The same Guardian Twin Handrail system was also deployed in the CCU this time with a red lower rail, a striking contrast to the mid grey handrail. Matching red Corner Protection Angles, both 90° and 135°, were installed to vulnerable corners protecting from impact damage.Fire doors in the unit also benefitted from the installation of Yeoman Shield’s fire rated door protection products, shielding the door from impact damage that can be detrimental to the functioning of a fire door.Fire rated door edge protectors to both meeting and hinged edges as well as door protection panels were added to the door without affecting the integrity of the original fire door.Yeoman Shield were able to assist with exacting time scales on the project by a quick turnaround of product and service with a site survey, manufacture and installation of the product being completed in 2 weeks.Paula Stone, Head of Operational Facilities Management at East Kent University Foundation Trust commented “The lower wall protection element of Yeoman Shield’s Guardian Handrail now fitted in our high traffic areas will reduce the cost of repairs and maintenance overtime. Accoya was chosen to help transform a late Victorian property based in London. Originally built as a warehouse, the property required major renovation to become a family home. The building was in such bad condition the windows & doors were rotten & required replacement. Accoya was selected for the windows & doors due to its durability & stability. Plus, the replacement joinery had to comply with the conservation area requirements. 10 new Accoya sash & casements windows & 5 new Accoya doors were installed. Since the installation the overall look of the street has dramatically improved.

Mixed-use development created from a redundant gasworks site turning it into a high profile quarter in London.In the vibrant heart of Fulham, a groundbreaking mixed-use development has revitalized a once-redundant gas works site, giving rise to a high-quality urban quarter. This ambitious project boasts nearly 2000 new homes distributed across 15 buildings, reaching heights of up to 37 storeys. Beyond residences, the development incorporates a variety of complimentary uses, fostering a dynamic and inclusive urban community.Our involvement in the Fulham Gasworks redevelopment focused on a key aspect of functionality and safety within the expansive development—supplying and fitting metal riser doors. With safety and aesthetics at the forefront, these fire-rated doors seamlessly integrate into the architectural landscape, ensuring compliance with the highest standards.The challenge lay in harmonizing essential utility elements with the aesthetic vision of the redevelopment. Our team provided bespoke metal riser doors strategically positioned within the development. The metal riser doors contribute to the overall safety and functionality of these communal spaces, ensuring that safety measures are discreetly woven into the fabric of daily life within the development.

Manchester's Milliners Wharf development is a part of the "Hat Box" regeneration of New Islington. This high-end residential development was designed to ensure residents feel safe in their home by specifying products with high security features. As such, our aluminium door was chosen for the ground floor apartments and top floor duplex apartments, which incorporates an invisible door closer as well as concealed locking groover for a tight and secure mechanisam. These features, along with the single-leaf open in and open-out hinged doors that meet PAS24 certification for burglar resistance, resulted in the Secured by Design certification.Along this door system, aluminium sliding doors were used for the balconies and was specified for their durability alongside aluminium windows. This further assisted in the Secured by Design certification. There are several optional additions to the window system which provides the ability to customise for each project. In this case, the Hat Box development benefits from tilt before turn windows made possible with the systems durability and strength. The hinge mechanism can support glazing up to 130kg. As well as a safety element, it was important to ensure that the building's occupants would be living in a healthy environment. In building's where there is a difference of U values between the walls, windows and doors, there is a risk of high humidity which could potentially cause issues with condensation and mold. The issue was overcome at Milliners Wharf through the thermal efficiency offered by our aluminium curtain walling. Less energy is lost between the inside and the outside of the facade. This consistancy in temperature and improvement of the air quality in the room means that the room needs much less energy to heat and cool it.

Suma International Manufacturing Company fabricated 773 fire doors for Tamdeen Square Residential Towers, which are situated in Kuwait City.The FD60 doorsets incorporated Halspan Optima door blanks.Tamdeen Square is a new urban development in the south of Kuwait City that will feature 74 retail stores, a hotel, and Tamdeen Square Residential Towers. Strategically located in Sabah Al Salem, the project location has access to two of Kuwait’s main highways – Fahaheel Express Highway and the Sixth Ring Road Expressway.The Tamdeen Square Residential Towers project features three 40 floor towers with luxury residential apartments featuring a swimming pool, gymnasium, multi-purpose communal spaces, and a car park containing 800 spaces. The three towers combined contain 256 sea-view luxury apartments and 7 car parking floors.The elegantly constructed apartments have been finished to the highest international standards, and as such, Suma International Manufacturing Company decided to incorporate Halspan Optima door cores in this project.The fire-rated doors feature wooden frames and are located in all of the main entrances, the staff entrances, and the entrance doors in every apartment per level, the doors feature a bamboo veneer face panel and the drivers’ entrances feature white paint.Halspan Optima is durability tested to severe duty and features Halspan’s unique 3-layer particle board and is suitable for veneer, laminate, or paint finishes.Photography courtesy of Suma International Manufacturing Company.

56 outlets were installed at CARGO, the brand new retail hub installed at the wharf, all of which feature AluK’s premium-standard BSC94 patio doors. Maximising light and offering the best possible view of the surrounding harbour whilst being robust enough to handle high levels of traffic, the reliable, heavy-duty doors were supplied for each container. The sleek, contemporary look of the doors contrasts dramatically with the dockside harbour’s character, plus their high-performance profile and slim sightlines give every shop front the modern, stylish finish required to revamp the area.

The architects Willmore Isles of Bristol had to work closely with the local planners to demonstrate a design for the Pittville Campus which was sympathetic to the surrounding buildings and would sit comfortably within the streetscape. AluK aluminium window and door systems were integral to that design, providing a timeless, contemporary aesthetic which suited both the refurbished and new build areas of the development. Products included; 58BW top swing casement windows for the 577 student rooms, GTB55 TB commercial entrance doors and fire exits door for the eight separate accommodation blocks, and SL52 curtain walling for the refurbished communal areas.

Delivering elegance, functionality and improving the building’s use of natural daylight – whilst also guaranteeing smooth and reliable access – the sophisticated dormakaba KTV Atrium Glass revolving door proved ideal for George House, Glasgow's office block. Acting as an effective environmental barrier between the internal and external environments, the dormakaba KTV revolving door limits warm air loss and cold air intake, helping to reduce the building’s energy consumption and subsequent expense. The KTV ATRIUM revolving door systems are ideal for installation in entrance areas where effective environment control and elegant aesthetics are desired.

Kawneer’s AA®100 curtain wall, AA®540 vents, and series 190 and AA®720 doors were specified by the regular Kawneer users for the latest redevelopment of the Wilfred Brown Building at the university in Greater London. The mullion-drained capped and SSG (Structurally Silicone Glazed) curtain wall forms a new sawtooth façade to the first and second floors and is complemented by the AA®540 window vents which are top-hung and also Structurally Silicone Glazed, series 190 heavy-duty doors to the main entrance, and the thermally-superior AA®720 doors.

record uk installed a 3 wing all-glass revolving door with a stainless steel frame to provide an attractive and impressive entrance to Horizons House in Aberdeen, a development of prestigious serviced office suites built by Waterloo Quay properties. The revolving door complemented the modern and attractive interior and prevented through draft which otherwise may have posed a problem with the entrance opening directly into the reception area. This revolving door was fitted with a fully automatic in-ground electric mechanism and microprocessor control unit. Safety features are also built in and activated by infrared detectors and overload detection.

Washroom designed, manufactured and installed new washrooms and fitted out the reception area for the new Trampoline and Play Park at Sutton Sports Village. The team specified a vivid shade of orange throughout the centre including on the Forte SGL cubicles, Concerto SGL duct panels, SGL vanities and HPL reception desk. With accessibility a key consideration, Washroom installed two different sized washroom cubicles; one with half-height doors for younger children, disabled toilets with outwards opening doors and ensured the pilasters provided a colour contrast to the cubicle doors to assist any partially sighted visitors to the centre.
