Soundis

Cowley Road in Brixton is situated in a vibrant area of London where main contractors, Pinnacle Building Solutions were faced with the task of refurbishing an existing apartment block to a standard that reflected the higher standards of living now demanded in the area.Pinnacle Building Solutions were tasked with reducing not just airborne noise, but impact noise too. This is a classic problem in buildings constructed when building regulations were considerably more lax than today. This problem is compounded by modern tastes having moved away from carpets throughout the living space. Finally, the tight urban site demanded that all trades work together to an equally tight schedule of works.Soundis supplied over 2,850m2 of Acoustic Matting and Underlays. The end result being an installation that surpassed the building regulations Part E for both airborne and impact noise with ease.

Acoustic Flooring Requirement at Henley College, Oxfordshire

Soundis

Acoustic Flooring and Tight DeadlinesNot only was footfall noise to be reduced, but airborne noise needed to be tackled as well. The design had to be as discreet as possible, retaining the original character of the building, and allowing for future amendments to the building. Finally, all of this work had to be completed to the unyielding deadlines of term times.Working closely with Main Contractor, Bowmer & Kirkland, Soundis and our installation partner UK Acoustic Systems recommended the Soundis ChipPanel 28 system as the ideal solution for the 1,575m2 area. Contracted by our client, we supplied and installed this ChipPanel 28 system due to its high impact and airborne noise reduction, conforming to Robust Detail standards FFT5.Furthermore, at only 28mm thick, this shallow floating floor also minimises construction height allowing that extra space for any additional features the college may wish to add in the near future.

Architectural Street Furnishings part of WB White Foundry

HTA Architects designed the Next Wave scheme to renovate the seafront and public realm surrounding the Grade 1 listed modernist De La Warr pavilion. The CABE Seachange Funded project which aims to make the area a more attractive place for residents and visitors to Bexhill, and a catalyst for economic regeneration of this seaside resort. When Bexhill on Sea needed a new barrier for the seafront promenade, Architectural Street Furnishings (ASF) was contacted to look at the project. For harsh coastal environments, ASF would typically advise the use of cast iron products, however the client brief requested the barrier was constructed from aluminium, in a design that was sympathetic to the architecture of the De La Warr pavilion.Aluminium is not renowned for being particularly durable in coastal environments. To ensure the barrier would withstand the environmental conditions over time, ASF had the aluminium hard anodised. The anodising process involved the immersion of aluminium in a bath of sulphuric acid (an electrolyte) and running a low voltage electrical current through the bath. Normal anodising results in a thin coating of aluminium oxide (rust) on the surface of the material, hard anodising is achieved by cooling the solution to freezing temperature and increasing the amount of electric current that is passed through the bath.Hard anodising produces a much thicker coating of aluminium oxide, rendering the finished material only a few hardness points below diamond and protecting it against harsh environments such as the salt at the coast. The client agreed the simple clean lines of the design and a machined aluminium cap was added to finish off the modern and stylish barrier. The finished result is a low maintenance, minimalist seafront barrier that will not pitt or corrode over time. The use of anodised aluminium enabled the client's brief to be matched without the need for compromise.

Heathrow Park maintenance walkway - plank gratings

Elefant Gratings T/A PcP Gratings Ltd

Heathrow Park is an industrial estate situated close to Heathrow Airport, UK. The construction project involved different collaboration partners – a UK steelwork and installation company and a main contractor, both operating as key stakeholders in the Heathrow Park project. The steelwork company contacted PcP on behalf of the main contractor, looking for a cost-efficient steel maintenance roof walkway to access roof equipment.Project criteria and proposalOn behalf of the main contractor, a steelwork contractor approached PcP to quote for a suitable product for 3,260 square metres of steel flooring for a maintenance walkway. Normally, twisted bar grating is specified for projects of this kind, but PcP CUBE® gratings were suggested to match the customer’s criteria regarding delivery time. The main contractor required grating for a steel flooring platform which had to be supplied by a very tight deadline and at a competitive price but with a high-quality finish. Once the customer accepted the initial proposal for the CUBE® gratings, PcP ensured that the quotation met the all the criteria specified by the client for the planning application. We provided Static load calculations and samples in order to obtain final approval. The solution CUBE® grating – an alternative to twisted bar gratingPcP proposed the new B-CUBE® grating for Heathrow Park flooring as it could be made to suit the spans required at a competitive price. However, and more importantly, the B-CUBE® grating proved a viable proposition to the client due to the low weight of the product compared to other gratings. The delivery time also met the strict site requirements. For the project, the B-CUBE® grating was manufactured over a six-week period using robotic welding on both day and night shifts in order to meet the project schedule.PcP experts delivered tailor-made CUBE® gratings for the steel flooring, and the work included paying special attention to details, accurate technical drawings, and providing all the necessary product certification and datasheets.Customer support, technical expertise and calculationsIn order to address any queries, PcP provided full support from its technical department and customer service team.
