A comprehensive fire door replacement programme throughout the 5-storey Ladywell Unit which provides mental health services including a psychiatric intensive care unit.Advanced Timber Systems supplied fully PVC encapsulated ‘Vanta-form’ Door-sets and specialist anti-ligature hardware to give a robust, compliant and durable solution in this complex environment.Glazed Side screens were supplied with toughened security glass to enhance the safety for patients and staff without compromising visibility through corridors.

Throughout the refurbishment of the Acute Medical Unit we were pleased to be involved with the supply of fully encapsulated postformed door-sets and ironmongery to offer a seamless package and ensure an effective, durable finish was achieved.

The challenge was to incorporate a green roof finish both flat and curved to the roof areas. The roof pitch being as steep as 45 degrees in places, a pitch not conducive with a green roof system. ABG used their expertise in green roof and slope stabilisation to make the curved green roof possible. The system incorporated a series of anchor points, reinforcement geogrid (Trigrid), and geocellular technology (Erosaweb) to retain growing medium on each roof. The Green Roof system incorporates a SMART rain sensor and automated irrigation pipe system with each finger haveving its own dedicated mains operated tank

Helping a Gateshead-based decorating contractor win a prestigious Johnstone’s Painter of the Year Award. Stratum helped create a healthy and fresh environment in the specialist research laboratories based at the world-renowned Great Ormond Street Hospital. The space would be heavily used and the nature of the work in the labs required the floor to be hygienic, seamless, easy to clean and with high resistance to chemicals. The design of the building allows the public to see through the windows into the laboratories from street level, meaning aesthetics were equally as important in product selection as functional properties. Stratum installed 800m2 of Pure Design – Bolidtop 525 with integrated skirting throughout. Solution-      Joint free makes for a very hygienic solution, with integrated joint free skirting adding to this.-      Close co-ordination with the contractor, enabled the structure to be sufficiently progressed early in the programme. This allowed the resin to be installed early and fully protected in ample time for the lab benches to be installed over.-      Electrical Floor Bokes, seamless skirting.Result-      The resin flooring installed here is an excellent addition to this multi-award winning building.  “The Bolidt resin provides the perfect seamless floor finish in the main laboratory spaces within the Zayed Centre for Research. These are most visible laboratory spaces within the building, both internally and from the public realm, and a choice of floor finish was important. Rockfon MediCare Plus is installed throughout the wards, treatment rooms, corridors and dental school rooms. The tiles fulfil all the essential hygiene requirements in healthcare environments and comply with the Department of Health’s HBN and HTM guidelines. The water-repellent surface is resistant to bacteria and mould growth and can be steam cleaned. It has Bacteriological Class B1 certification and does not contribute to the growth of MRSA

This project was a fit out of an existing commercial space to form a state of the art outpatients unit and imaging facility.Key to the clients design on this project is the need for products that are functional and compliant to a healthcare environment.SDS Dfendoor is used in our unique American Walnut finish, giving the look and feel of a luxury hotel and yet enabling compliance at all times and guaranteeing top level aesthetics.The project is effectively complimented by the use of the coordinating range of Dfend wall protection enabling discreet protection of common areas of damage in this robustly trafficked environment.

A recent upgrade to ward kitchens included the provision of stainless steel worktops, basins and base cabinets, by stainless steel specialist, GEC Anderson Limited.In a phased upgrade program, the Foundation Trust approached GEC Anderson directly to agree detailing, specifications and costings for the various ward kitchens. The scope of work included bespoke worktops, sinktops, base cabinets and wall-hung wash basins.The results are professional, hygienic and durable kitchens that will stand the test of time for the Trust.

This extensive 9,000m2 new build project, covering 4 key operating theatres, two treatment rooms, assessment units, a discharge ward and an admission department benefitted from a full ARDEX flooring system.

We are delighted to have been awarded a £60,000 contract for healthcare furniture for the new Manor Street Medical Centre, in Braintree, Essex. Because this was a brand new build, furniture across the whole medical centre building was required, including treatment rooms, consulting rooms, staff WCs and shower rooms, kitchenette, store rooms, staff rooms, GP reception and meeting rooms.Manor Street is a £30 million , mixed-use, regeneration scheme for Braintree District Council to rejuvenate and revitalise the town centre, providing homes, a hotel, health provision, car park and bus interchange.

We recently worked with Greswolde Construction and C2J Architects to manufacture and install healthcare furniture for Broadway Medical Centre, a new, two-storey medical centre, which replaces the existing surgery in the centre of Broadway, Worcestershire. The contract value was just over £55,000 and involved providing furniture throughout the new centre, in both clinical and administrative rooms.The new primary care medical centre will have five GP consulting rooms, two GP registrar rooms, two treatment and minor surgery rooms, as well as various rooms for other medical needs. A number of offices and meeting rooms will occupy the first floor. A new 65-space car park has also been included for the site which will have disabled spaces, electric car charging bays and cycle storage as well as an ambulance bay.

The Moores Orthopaedic Clinic, located in the picturesque village of Upton Grey, Basingstoke, has completed a major new build project to deliver a specialist veterinary orthopaedic clinic, featuring a 21st century interior using bespoke fitted furniture from David Bailey Furniture Systems Ltd.This successful project called for the design of a veterinary facility that could seamlessly blend innovation, hygiene, and efficiency. Designed and manufactured with a precise 70mm return on one side, the panels create a subtle ‘wave’ profile on the façade, with light and shadow creating an ever-changing look throughout the day. “Maple handled logistical and practical challenges between all parties very well,” said Ewan Forsyth, Development Director at estates developer Prime. “The result of this team effort is a hugely improved parking experience for staff, patients and visitors.”  Specialist brackets fix the 745 anodised panels to all four elevations, achieving the exact ‘free space area’ required by the architect.

F. Ball conducted extensive on-site moisture tests before recommending the use of Stopgap P131 primer for both the 650m clinic and a 200m MRI Scanning room. Priming helped control the absorption and improve the adhesion of the Stopgap Green Bag smoothing underlayment, recommended for its fast setting properties and suitability in heavy duty applications. Styccobond F44 was then trowel applied on two types of vinyl – one for each room – to give a high bond strength, strong initial tack and a long open time. Styccobond F61 heavy-duty contact adhesive was then used to secure skirting.

The North Hampshire Hospitals, part of the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, includes services that provide specialist services for rare or complex illnesses for patients across the UK.With links to University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust for some specialised services.In 1999 it became the first hospital in Europe to perform surgery using equipment operated by voice commands.The Dfendoor doorsets consisted of an Aqua door frame and leaf with a textured finish, giving the hospital a unique yet minimalistic design that helped deliver a durable finish and a desirable aesthetic and clearly demonstrates that sometimes, less is more.

Torbay Hospital is South Devon’s main hospital. The eye clinic at the hospital required a floor refurbishment as the old carpet floor tiles were no longer suitable. The hospital needed a floor in blue to complement adjacent finishes. Altro met with the ward and building supervisors to discuss floor options. The Estates Building Supervisor worked closely with and was fully supported by Altro to choose the right product for the clinic. It was decided to use Altro Orchestra in ‘Bassoon’ and ‘Soul’ and helped the hospital to create a design for the eye clinic.

The Royal Blackburn Hospital, located in Lancashire, England, was dubbed a “ticking time bomb” that could “collapse without warning” due to the failure of its existing reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) roof. This issue was part of a larger nationwide crisis, with 34 NHS buildings, including Blackpool Hospital, and thousands more schools, offices and more at risk of collapse due to the deterioration of RAAC structures. The estimated cost of repairs for these buildings loomed at over £1 billion. In the face of this urgent and challenging situation, The Royal Blackburn Hospital sought a solution to ensure the safety and integrity of its infrastructure.The Royal Blackburn Hospital's existing RAAC roof had reached a critical state of disrepair. The risk of a catastrophic collapse was real and imminent, posing a serious threat to patients, staff, and the hospital's ability to provide essential medical services. The financial burden of repairing or replacing such a roof was substantial, and the hospital needed an innovative, cost-effective, and expedient solution.The hospital administration and engineering team explored various alternatives to address the RAAC roof crisis. After careful evaluation, they opted for Britmet's Tactray 90 Structural Liner System as the best solution to mitigate the risk of a roof collapse. Tactray 90 offered the necessary structural reinforcement while ensuring long-term durability and stability. FasTop SL45 self smoothing polyurethane resin was used as a 5mm thick seamless floor finish for this large hospital kitchen in Sydney, Australia. This facility is extremely busy producing over 2 thousand meal a day which have to be moved around the hospital quickly on special trolleys. This type of traffic meant the flooring had to be able to withstand regular wheeled traffic and footfall and be safe and cleanable within a hospital environment.
