Impact Group UK

Impact Group UK has stepped in to transform Barry's bedroom following the family’s two-year council battle to make it safe. The Daily Record reported three weeks ago how mum Caitlyn is in constant fear of him hurting himself and has been fighting for work to be carried out.A roll of lino, supplied by WDHSCP, has been lying in her hall since last summer, with the walls and floor still bare and electrics yet to be completed.Impact had previously supplied a quote for the work over a year ago, which Caitlyn says she passed onto the council but nothing came of it.A little Vale boy is going to have his dream bedroom after a big-hearted company stepped in to end the family’s two-year council battle to make it safe.Five-year-old Barry McLaughlin has Pica, a rare condition which causes him to chew wall and floor coverings, and has been waiting on West Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership to carry out vital adaptations.Commercial director James Cooke read our story online and reached out to Caitlyn pledging to safely kit out the space, including an ocean-themed feature wall and built-in TV. Caitlyn said: “This means so much to us. After the story was in the Lennox I thought it would maybe give the council a push but I never thought for a minute that a company would reach out.How we found out “Somebody had tagged James in the story and he sent me a message on Facebook.“He said ‘If you don’t mind we would like to come out and get Barry’s room as safe as possible. You won’t need to worry any more. We’re going to make it safe and fun for him’. “I couldn’t believe it. I was in floods of tears. I thought it was such a nice thing to do. “They did a quote over the year ago which I showed the council but they said it was too expensive. I offered to pay part of it as it included the cost of a TV which I didn’t expect them to pay.”Director Michael Blake told the Lennox Herald the company, which specialise in installing hygienic surfaces in healthcare facilities, hospitality, leisure and in homes, didn’t think twice about contacting Caitlyn after seeing our story. He said: “We didn’t hear anything else after doing the quote so presumed it had been carried out.“When we found out she was in the same situation we knew we had to get the job done.“We’re going to make a really fun, safe environment for Barry and it will give Caitlyn peace of mind knowing her son is safe.”The mum-of-two previously told how there was “no dignity” in his bedroom, which only has a bed in it for Barry to sleep. He has eaten the floor underlay, skirting boards and wall coverings and requires materials around him which he cannot try and eat or rip up.Impact Group UK specialise in the work requiring to be done and James and his team travelled up from England last week, spending five hours assessing the work needed to be carried out. They are planning to return in a couple of weeks to carry out the work over four days, replacing wall and floor coverings and installing a fun aquarium feature wall.Caitlyn said: “They sent me some different options for the feature wall and I picked one I knew Barry would like. “It’s got fish, corals, whales and turtles. I was expecting a plain wall but he said they wanted to make it fun for him. He’s going to love it. “They are going to put a TV in with a perspex screen over it. There will be a fake wall with wires and sockets behind so there will be no chance of him chewing any of it. I don’t need to worry about him sticking his fingers into the sockets. “It’s going to be amazing and I can’t wait to see his face when it’s done.“He has a few wee friends who he’ll be able to invite round to play in his room and it’s going to be really good for him to be able to have his own space. “For me, it means I can go to sleep at night without the fear that he is going to choke on something he’s eaten. “I am so grateful to them.”Jackie Baillie MSP previously hit out over the delay after it was revealed WDHSCP was sitting on £6million of reserves. She said: “I very much welcome the intervention from Impact Group UK, but it is shameful that they have had to step in to complete a job that WDHSCP should have carried out in 2020.“Families with urgent needs should never have to wait years for help and this cannot be allowed to happen again, especially given that the HSCP is sitting on £6m of reserves.“The HSCP must do the right thing and pay for the work to be carried out and apologise to the McLaughlin family for not helping when they should have intervened.”A WDHSCP spokeswoman said: “We strive to provide a responsive and efficient service to all of our residents and would again like to apologise to Ms McLaughlin that timescales for these works were impacted by staff absence as a result of the pandemic.“We will continue to liaise with Ms McLaughlin to provide support and ensure all works to her home are completed as required.”

Schoolyard Transformed by Mobilane Green Screens

Mobilane

John Ball Primary School, nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Blackheath, London, teaches students aged 3 to 11, fostering a diverse and lively community. The school’s administration recognized the need for an aesthetic transformation of their premises and sought to create a more inviting and secure schoolyard environment. In pursuit of this vision, John Ball Primary School partnered with Meristem, a renowned installer, to bring Mobilane’s Instant Ivy Green Screens to life. The installation has since significantly impacted the school’s overall appearance and atmosphere.Instant Ivy Green ScreensThe choice of Mobilane’s Instant Ivy Green Screens was driven by their ability to provide an instant transformation of the schoolyard. Mobilane’s Green Screens, available in various sizes and plant types, are celebrated for their quality and sustainability. Grown in biodegradable containers composed of coconut fibers, the Green Screens present a seamless blend of nature and urban surroundings, aligning perfectly with the school’s objectives.Effective privacy and security solution James Powles, the premises manager of John Ball Primary School, played a pivotal role in overseeing the installation and monitoring the impact of the Mobilane Green Screens. According to Mr. Powles, these screens have not only elevated the school’s external aesthetics but also created a more welcoming and natural boundary around the schoolyard. He observed that the screens had an immediate and lasting impression on the students. The initial response from the students was one of excitement. As Mr. Powles noted, “At first, there was a wow factor, and now the pupils play happily alongside them without damaging them.” The children seem calmer, and the Green Screens also serve as a windbreak, mitigating the disruptive effects of gusty winds. In terms of privacy and security, the green screens have successfully fulfilled their purpose, as Mr. Powles mentioned that “pupils are not trying to interact with passers-by.” This newfound sense of separation and security has allowed the children to engage in their activities within a more protected environment. The collaboration with Meristem, from the selection and installation to ongoing maintenance of the green screens, was characterized by its efficiency and professionalism. According to Mr. Powles, “No effort was needed from me,” which reflects the seamless partnership that facilitated the successful completion of the project.A versatile choiceThe Mobilane Green Screen is a ready-made hedge featuring a steel grid intricately covered with climbing plants, all grown within a biodegradable container made of coconut fibers. This innovation simplifies the installation process: after preparing the soil, you can place the hedge directly into the ground, securely anchored with posts and brackets tailored to your needs, whether it’s a universal bracket for posts or a wall bracket for wall mounting. The selection of plants is versatile, offering options like the evergreen Hedera helix Woerner for a classic, dark green look or the vibrant Pyracantha Dart’s Red with non-poisonous red berries and beautiful white flowers, adding color to your green screen. Mobilane Green Screens bring instant fullness to hedges and can be planted year-round, making them a convenient and sustainable choice for enhancing privacy and greenery.

Thanks to its exceptional properties, the thermal performance of the walls after installation has been significantly enhanced. A U-value of 0.27 W/m²K was achieved, which will help to reduce the residents fuel bills and reduce the level of condensation forming on the inside walls – two key objectives for the client. For the finish, high-performance Silkolitt+ silicone renders were supplied along with our lightweight synthetic brick slips (VBriQ). Flagship of the University’s Science Central site...The building is a living laboratory dedicated to the aim of making urban centres more sustainable for future generations. We were contracted to supply & install various major acoustic elements required on this project. From the get go, our client and architect loved Soundis Absorb-R WoodTec range due to their versatility, and the fact we were able to manufacture the products exactly to the project specific specification. One of the Soundis products from the range were the Absorb-R Micro Perforated Timber Panels which were located and installed on the curved rear wall of the auditorium. The timber core panels were faced with Micro Perforated Formica and the client decided upon the colour red which contrasted the other products within the auditorium tremendously. Another major element of our acoustic package were the Absorb-R WoodTec Grooved Timber Panels which were installed within the main classrooms and smaller teaching spaces to provide excellent working spaces for the students by reducing reverberation times and enhancing the quality of Soundis within the areas. The panels in these areas were RAL painted to the colour chosen by the architect to provide the envisaged aesthetic look and feel of the spaces. Finally Soundis Absorb-R WoodTec Timber slats were installed not only on the walls of the corridors and staircases from ground level all the way to the third floor but they were also used as freestanding dividers in large open atrium and circulation spaces throughout the Learning and Teaching Centre. These timber slats were manufactured the exact specification of what the architect wanted to create a modern but sophisticated look within the newly constructed building. All installation carried out by our installation partner UK Acoustics.

Soundis Absorb-R Timber Grooved and Perforated Wall Panels at University of Birmingham

Soundis

The University launched ambitious new plans for a £40 million state-of-the-art Collaborative Teaching Laboratory (CTL) to facilitate the teaching of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects. Our work for the project included the supply of approximately 684m2 of Soundis Absorb-R timber wall panels. The client opted for a combination of 8/3m Absorb-R WoodTec Grooved and Soundis Absorb-R WooTec Perforated 2/2/0.5 Perforated panels. This combination of the two styles creates a stylish yet elegant finish.Black panels were chosen for the walls and white panels for the railing areas, the contrast of the colours further promoting that modern style for the university. The old choice between Engineering-led functionality, and beautiful design not longer applies. Cutting-edge new technologies allow solid wood panels and multi-layer panels to be micro perforated to serve as highly effective sound absorbing cladding. Panel textures can also be tailored to serve project requirements.
