Rundum Original garage doors provide unique feature in prestigious Cornish development

Rundum Original garage doors provide unique feature in prestigious Cornish development

Rundum Meir (UK) Ltd

Twin Rundum Original ‘round the corner’ side sliding doors have been manufactured and installed by bespoke garage door specialist Rundum Meir UK as part of the North Quay development in Hayle, Cornwall.Their vision for North Quay is to transform a former industrial area into an exciting new coastal quarter for people to live, work, shop, eat, stay and enjoy the stunning waterside location. Key to this is high quality design by which has already been independently recognised through the project winning in the 2020 Housing Design Awards.Within the first phase of the transformational project, which includes around 140 dwellings and public realm development by FCBStudios, as well as office space and waterside commercial buildings, are two residential units with garages. Rundum Meir was approached to explore the potential for twin bespoke doors with radiused corners at their adjacent edge which would make a statement feature of the garage doors. This design was perfectly suited to the Rundum Original, which slides along a track as it opens sideways before turning a corner to run along an inner side wall of the garage. Equally important, however, was the ability to manufacture the garage door in materials that would enable aesthetic goals to be achieved whilst being suitable for the harsh coastal conditions, dominated by an aggressive saline atmosphere.Rundum Meir was able to use Accoya for the timber slats that make up each of the doors. Accoya is ideal for conditions of this kind, and for meeting the project’s sustainability aims, given its superior durability and FSC accreditation.Marine grade stainless steel was used to create the U-channels which guide the Rundum Original as it slides, along with the PPC tracks and binding. This will ensure the key mechanical elements of the two doors have maximum resistance to corrosion for a long design life.In line with the high specification of all the dwellings under construction, the Rundum Meir garage doors are also automated. A door-mounted motor is activated via a remote control device and it is HomeLink compatible for safe and secure operation from inside a vehicle.

Ventilated garage doors enable seamless integration of vertical timber cladding

Rundum Meir (UK) Ltd

Bespoke garage and car port doors from Rundum Meir, which provide natural ventilation and daylighting into enclosed garage spaces, can deliver a seamless aesthetic result in contemporary architecture featuring vertical timber board-on-batten cladding. This is illustrated at the Abode development in Cambridgeshire, where the architects delivered uniformity across different housing styles using a limited palette of materials. Horizontal and vertical cladding was extended into the doors for the car ports manufactured in matching oak. These ventilated doors enable fresh air and daylight to flow through the car ports from the rear gardens, adding an interesting visual dimension.

Concave sliding door creates unique curved garage space in redevelopment project

Rundum Meir (UK) Ltd

A Rundum Original sliding garage door spanning 8m wide and 2.2m high was integrated within the new designs by BWP Architects for a major property renovation, transforming a house which had evolved in an uncoordinated and poorly designed way. The door provides access to a large garage space below the property’s garden level and its shape coordinates elegantly with a car turntable installed immediately in front and surrounding landscaping. The owner tasked BWP with bringing new life to the property which has many original features. Undoing of previous conversion and extension work was necessary to enable the rebuilding of the residential property to a significantly higher standard, complete with the feature garage. An existing detached garage to the rear was partially demolished and converted to create a private formal rear courtyard. The replacement curved garage is a stunning visual element, with the new automated Rundum Original door’s high quality Larch complemented by bronze coloured bespoke balustrading to add a dramatic and artistic feature to the access stair and upper courtyard over the garage. The Rundum Original side sliding door is automated using two door mounted MZ4 drives which are custom made to automate these bespoke doors. These motors allow the door to traverse the curving tracks smoothly and quietly as required for this project. The door was designed in conjunction with Rundum Meir’s UK team before being hand-crafted by its garage door experts. Every door is made to order to the highest standards using responsibly sourced materials and installed by Rundum Meir to provide an end-to-end service.Danesch Missaghian, Director of Rundum Meir (UK) said: “Not only is this exciting project completed using very high specification products throughout, but it is also designed superbly with the architects using a curved garage door in an interesting way that maximises vehicular access. We are delighted with the contribution our door has made to the success of this project.”In addition to a range of different timber species, bespoke Rundum Original side sliding garage doors can be manufactured in high strength extruded aluminium and finished in any RAL colour. This makes these garage doors suitable for any domestic, commercial or public application, with the scope for architects to think differently about how the space for a garage can be integrated into the wider building design.

New angle on garage design provides easier vehicle access

New angle on garage design provides easier vehicle access

Rundum Meir (UK) Ltd

A Rundum Original side sliding garage door has enabled a client in Yorkshire to apply a non-standard shape to their new garage to maximise the footprint and provide the largest area of usable internal space with easy vehicular access. The angle of the boundary of the Victorian house presented an opportunity during a refurbishment project to remodel the garage. By aligning the front elevation of the garage with the house, vehicular access could be improved. The design required a door that could comfortably handle a right angle corner followed by an obtuse angle along the garage's side wall.

Creating the perfect garage for classic Humber car collection

Rundum Meir (UK) Ltd

A bespoke timber side sliding sectional garage door by Rundum Meir has proved to be the perfect fit for a private collector of classic 1950s Humber cars. After moving into the period property around six years ago, the owner was keen to redevelop the unloved garage to create a space for housing his collection of mark IV B Humber Super Snipe cars. Having purchased and maintained four of these specific models over the past 15 years, he wanted to ensure the new garage would reflect the beauty of the vehicles as well as mirror the period architecture of his 1910-built home. The vehicles are now housed in a garage accessed via an automated timber side sliding sectional door, featuring glass apertures, designed, manufactured and installed by Rundum Meir UK. The six-section door spans 4m to provide easy access to the garage and painted in a high quality black finish to achieve a period look. The homeowner said: “We’re delighted with our new garage and thankful to Rundum Meir for the sliding doors which have made the dream a reality. When we started on the project we researched numerous garage door types, but we struggled to find one that was out of the ordinary, automated and available in the stable-door style we sought.“Danesch and the team at Rundum Meir were fantastic. Following an initial visit to our home, they helped us explore the options within our available budget and the door that they proposed was perfect. With the windows, it is great to be able to see our Super Snipes in all their glory with ease."The side sliding sectional door installed here demonstrates how Rundum Meir is able to develop a bespoke solution for most applications. All its doors are designed in the UK, hand crafted in Germany and assembled back in the UK prior to installation.

Using Polytrol to revive a dull and faded garage door

Using Polytrol to revive a dull and faded garage door

Owatrol UK Ltd

We’re always so pleased when we hear from customers who have opted to use our products for their projects. When we received an email and some impressive before and after photos, from one such customer who had used Polytrol colour restorer to revive his garage door, we’re not exaggerating when we say that there was an audible buzz of appreciation in the Owatrol office as we took in the transformation. It was then that we knew that we had to share how Brian (our happy customer) had achieved this result, so that our other customers could benefit, too.First, clean your garage doorIf you want to replicate Brian’s success, it’s important to ensure that your garage door is prepped before application. Your door must be clean and free of any dirt, grease, mildew or grime.A bit of elbow grease and a bowl of soapy water is usually all you’ll need to do the job. However, if there’s any mildew on your garage door, scrub on a 50:50 bleach and water solution, leave it for 10 minutes, then rinse it off.If you have any polishes or waxes on your garage door, you will need to remove these too. Before moving on to the next step, ensure that your garage door is completely dry.Now it’s time to apply PolytrolA deep penetrating oil, Polytrol works by penetrating the surface of your door and re-wetting the pigments. This restores the colour that has been lost over the years, through exposure to pollution, rain and sunlight.Using a brush or a cloth and only working in sections that you can complete in 10-20 minutes, apply a liberal layer of Polytrol. As you work, if you notice any particularly matt and shiny patches, it means that the surface is absorbing Polytrol unevenly. If this happens, just move any surplus oil over to the matt areas.Allow the product to work for 10-20 minutes, then wipe off any excess with a clean, lint-free cloth. If you want a shinier finish, you can also buff the surface with a lint-free cloth. It really is as simple as that…Now, you just need to leave Polytrol to dry.One of the great things about Polytrol, is that it has been designed to dry to a tough and long-lasting flexible finish but with no film, so you won’t need to worry about it peeling or flaking.Plus, Polytrol is now also available in a spray can, to make application super simple.“Couldn’t have wished for a better result”Brian informed us that he:“just chanced upon your advert while browsing the net looking for a product that would improve the look of my door, and I am so very glad that I did…”In his email, Brian also said he “couldn’t have wished for a better result”. We have to agree – his garage door has been totally transformed.

Rundum Meir façade doors uniquely reflect Manchester landmark’s heritage

Rundum Meir façade doors uniquely reflect Manchester landmark’s heritage

Rundum Meir (UK) Ltd

A bronze façade featuring integrated Rundum Meir garage doors for two new townhouses in central Manchester has been uniquely designed to reflect the architecture of the nearby John Rylands Library, one of the city’s most famous neo-Gothic buildings. The duo of four storey, high specification private dwellings designed by Snook Architects for regeneration specialist Watch This Space have given new purpose to an unused site nestling between two post-industrial buildings close to Deansgate. Their full height bronze façade delivers a striking external appearance that takes a distinctive visual cue from the library, located opposite. The aluminium façade of both townhouses features laser cut and acid-etched lacy blind tracery patterns that match those in the windows of the library, a late Victorian neo-Gothic building which opened in 1900 and is now part of the University of Manchester. The lacy pattern extends over the full height of the façade which includes large folding/sliding shutters. These balance privacy with natural light requirements for residents during the day whilst being eye-catching at night as internal light shines through the laser cut pattern. This design extends into the twin side sliding sectional garage doors manufactured and installed by Rundum Meir, which effectively deliver a sliding façade at street level. Working closely with architect Neil Dawson, Rundum Meir’s designers were able to replicate the design with total consistency and manufacture in Germany using acid etching across the six aluminium sections. Neil Dawson of Snook Architects said: “Watch This Space approached us to look at how they could transform this city centre site and we immediately saw the potential to take design inspiration from the nearby John Rylands Library. The resulting façade is unique, and through the movement of the shutters and garage doors during daily life it is constantly moving and changing. “The laser cut pattern means that the building really comes to life at night as the internal light makes the intricate façade design a stunning feature. To be able to match this styling in the garage doors was crucially important and the result reflects the bespoke craftsmanship provided by Rundum Meir.” The twin Rundum Meir sliding garage doors each provide a clear opening of 3.8 m for easy vehicle access from the street. Hand made using extruded aluminium, the fully automated bespoke garage doors have an automated pedestrian door as well as the side sliding door that demonstrate the design flexibility offered by Rundum Meir, who create every garage door to meet project requirements.

Gowercroft Joinery Limited

Timber Window Project: Restoring Charm to a Matlock CottageDiscover how Gowercroft successfully transformed Robert Jones's quaint stone cottage in Matlock with high-quality timber windows and doors.A Challenging Derbyshire CottageWhen Robert Jones approached Gowercroft for his cottage renovation in Matlock, they faced an intriguing challenge. His 200-square-meter, 5-bedroom cottage nestled into a Derbyshire hillside, offering stunning countryside views. The property had three stories at the front but only one at the rear, with the ground floor patio situated atop an integral garage.Robert aimed to breathe new life into the neglected property by undertaking a comprehensive refit, including new electrics, bathrooms, stairs, carpets, roofing, garage, and replacement doors and windows. He sought a renovation that honoured the local aesthetics, using durable traditional materials like English slate for the roof and energy-efficient timber windows and patio doors to maximise the scenic vistas.Meeting the ChallengeAccess to the property posed a considerable challenge due to its location on a sharp bend with a steep incline at the end of a winding country road. The installation of oversized windows and doors seemed daunting, but Gowercroft embraced the challenges with creative solutions.Gowercroft crafted and installed eleven Hardwick flush casement windows, a Peveril lift and slide patio door, two floor-to-ceiling fixed light windows, an Accoya® front door, and a timber Melbourne stable door at the side. The lift and slide patio doors and glazed screens had to feature 6mm-thick glass to ensure structural integrity, making each unit weigh approximately 200 kilograms.Given the size and weight of the units, manual handling was impractical. Gowercroft enlisted a specialist contractor with a telehandler to navigate the steep drive and hoist the units into place. Additional personnel joined the effort."The job demanded teamwork, meticulous planning, and coordination with the ongoing building work as we removed the old windows and adjusted the existing openings," Robert explained.Exceeding ExpectationsThroughout the installation, unforeseen challenges arose, including the need to cut away patio paving slabs blocking the original patio doors and repositioning the door frame to accommodate the new Accoya® front door. Gowercroft even provided window boards for the new openings.Robert praised the Gowercroft team for their exceptional dedication and problem-solving attitude, stating, "I can't speak highly enough of the Gowercroft team. They tackled every obstacle and challenge with a 'can-do' spirit."Gowercroft's commitment to quality craftsmanship and their ability to navigate complex installations allowed Robert Jones to transform his Matlock cottage into a charming and energy-efficient retreat that perfectly complements its picturesque surroundings.

Contemporary outdoor living space looks incredible with new steel windows and doors

Clement Windows Group

Our client, One 17 Design, acted as Architects, Interior Designers and Project Managers for this superb project with involvement from inception through to completion. Their brief was to create a home office / garden room in the grounds of an existing detached home, which was done by extending the detached garage. The material palette for the garden room predominately featured oak and steel. Blackened oak cabinetry and steel fenestration provide a striking contrast against the natural oak frame and cladding. Clever detailing in the relationship between the oak frame and steel doors adds a contemporary twist. The bricks for the outside of the building were selected to match the brickwork of the existing bungalow. Bespoke Clement steel windows and doors from the W20 range were chosen for the project, including an interior door, fitted with reeded glass that leads to the bathroom. All handles were powder coated black to match the steel frames. The project won “Best amazing space” at the 2022 Northern Design Awards.Freddie Garside, Partner and Director at One 17 Design, said:“We and our client were delighted with the finished doors and screens. The narrow framed black steel doors complement the natural oak frame perfectly. Car lift enables new parking garage for MIPIM award winner in AmsterdamSpace saving PEGASOS lift provides access to new basement parking levelThe PEGASOS car lift was delivered in 2019 by Lödige Industries to DCV Bouw B.V. in Amsterdam, Netherlands. About the building and projectThe Diamond Exchange, Diamantbeurs in Dutch, was built in 1911 to a design by Gerit van Arkel as the centre of the Amsterdam diamond trading industry. It housed a large trading hall on the first floor and offices above that. In 2015, the building was purchased by Sijthoff Media Groep and Zadelhoff Beheer and underwent a significant renovation and transformation based on designs by Zwarts & Jansma Architects and Heyligers design + projects. The new design aimed at three objectives: to restore the original qualities of the Diamantbeurs in its full glory, to adapt the interior for use as a modern, flexible office environment and to build a contemporary addition open to the public. The most prominent new addition to the 2020 MIPIM Award winner, is the elongated dome of steel and glass on the roof, called High Light. The curved glass structure incorporates solar cells, which generate solar energy as well as shade. The shape of the structure, which houses a public space, references the property's past as the center of the diamond trade. Today, under its new name, ‘Capital C’, it serves as a centre for the creative industry and houses conference and event venues as well as co-working spaces for various companies. Offering enough parking spaces by enabling access to parking garage via car liftParking spaces around the building located in the centre of Amsterdam are rare and costly. As the Capital C building offers co-working spaces it benefits from the excellent public transport connections in the area. Nevertheless, it needed to find a way to offer parking spaces for cars and bicycles. To solve this a new basement was added to the building to create the space needed for parking. The inclusion of a ramp for access, however, would have severely limited the number of spaces on offer. The PEGASOS © car lift is the most space saving car lift on the market today. It requires neither pit nor engine room and thanks to its extremely slender shaft geometry it offers an access solution even in very restricted space situations.Today tenants of the building simply drive up to the lift, press their remote and enter the lift for a quick delivery to the garage – a fact that is very popular with the users of the co-working spaces in the building. About the customerDCV BOUW B.V. was founded in 2006. Since then, it has grown into an important player in the construction sector of the Netherlands.DCV BOUW carries out a wide range of projects for its clients. Recents projects include the renovation of ‘De Oliphant’ and newbuild of the Orato Offices in Amsterdam, as well as the Aon building renovation in Rotterdam.Challenges of parking at DiamantbeursThe Capital C building was renovated and now houses a new creative centre offering co-working spaces and event venues, leading to increased parking requirementsParking spaces are limited in the city centre of Amsterdam,The building had an underground level for parking cars and bicycles but no space for a conventional access ramp. Given the integration into the existing building, there was limited headroom available above any potential lift. The customer required access not only for cars, but also for bicycles and egress for building management functions such as waste removal.Enabling access to parking garageThe Lödige PEGASOS© car lift installed serves as a space efficient and convenient entry to the underground parking garage.Cars are being transported vertically to the parking garage, without the need for a conventional access rampThe design of the PEGASOS car lift needs no pit and minimal headroom, facilitating integration into the existing buildingCars and bicycles can be comfortably transported to the underground parking garage. The lift also enables easy waste removal and goods delivery.

Axter Ltd

This building was once home to the Henderson Garage door production facility, with the client in the process of renovating the entire premises to be split into several new warehousing and office units. To be able to secure new tenants, however, there was an urgency to stop a mass amount of water ingress into the building, due to the roof's years of neglect.Systems in useHyranger®Starcoat® RChallengesThe state of the existing waterproofing was poor, meaning it needed to be stripped back to the metal deck below. Given the years of water ingress it was clear some areas of the substrate were deteriorating and would need replacing. There was also an issue with the adjacent metal cladding to the perimeter of the roof space, one of which was coated in an asbestos paint and the potential for asbestos rope within the old rooflights. All of this needed addressing prior to the roofing works commencing.SolutionsAxter were called to initially survey the roof area, highlighting the main areas of concern and interface issues. Following a roof condition survey report, proposals were put forward as to how best to detail waterproof these areas and achieve the brief set out by the client. To the metal cladding, Starcoat R cold applied liquid bitumen PU resin was used to create a waterproofed upstand without the need for the complete removal of the cladding. Upon discussions with the building owner, it was also discovered that the existing rooflights were no longer needed, so these were boarded over and waterproofed in line with the rest of the main field area. The Hyranger system, comprising polyester reinforced SBS polymer modified bitumen membranes, was ideal for the job due to its guarantee strength, stability, performance and cost efficiency. The completed roof gained a 20 year guarantee and extended the life of the building.

Residents benefit from space-saving PEGASOS in apartment buildingElegant apartment building in the modern residential area of Königstein gets more parking space through boundary development with PEGASOS car lift.In the wooded slopes of the Taunus mountains in the catchment area of Frankfurt lies the climatic health resort of Königstein. People who want to escape the big city find a pleasant home in this modern and preferred residential area outside of Frankfurt. Rents have been rising throughout the Frankfurt area for many years. Also in Königstein rents are well above the average in Germany. Lödige Fördertechnik GmbH supplied a PEGASOS car lift for an apartment house in Koenigstein, Germany. The lift is used as an access to the garage in the basement.Creating attractive living space despite rising rentsMany residents and commuters in this region are dependent on own cars because of public transport connections. Anyone who has visited Königstein is familiar with the parking conditions: hilly, narrow streets lead to a low number of parking spaces. The owner of this project was faced with the question of how living space could be designed attractively despite the rising prices and lack of parking spaces? The Karl Dudler Architects had a vision for the centrally located private building in the heart of Königstein: a modern and comfortable apartment building with straight and clear structures, consisting of 2- and 4-room flats.Installed in November 2014, Lödige Industries was able to successfully implement the architects' vision with the PEGASOS ® car lift. As the shaft head in this project was installed outside the building and thanks to the narrow shaft geometry of the lift, it looks like a single garage from the outside when equipped with roller doors, which underlines the modern design of the building. The PEGASOS car lift also stands out for its ease of installation, as this model does not require a pit and can thus reduce underground engineering costs. Also, a machine room is not required. Residents can easily reach the desired floor with the help of a remote control.  The building, which was completed in November 2014, is a KfW Efficiency House (55). Thanks to reduced drive power and higher efficiency, the PEGASOS is significantly more energy-efficient than hydraulic car lifts and can therefore also be used in KfW-efficient houses, as here in Königstein. We are pleased to have achieved an all-round positive result for the customer. The car lift is maintained by Lödige Industries as part of a service contract.Application of the elegant, space-saving solutionDue to the surroundings and the layout of the building, the owner was looking for a space-saving parking solution. The property did not have a straight side boundary. The PEGASOS® car lift offers the ideal solution for, this situation, because due to its low shaft head height, this model can be used as a boundary construction. The parking space regulations in Königstein set a precise number or parking spaces for residential buildings, which could not be achieved here using the conventional way, an access ramp. Thus, the owner was threatened with a high redemption sum.The owner could reduce civil engineering costs due to the simple installation and the fact that this model does not require a pit.Compared to hydraulic car lifts, the PEGASOS is significantly more energy-efficient thanks to reduced drive power and higher efficiency.Due to the outside installed shaft head and the narrow shaft geometry of the lift, it looks like a single garage from the outside when equipped with elegant roller doors.

3v Architectural Hardware Ltd

Architect/Designer: Urban meshLocation: LondonProject Overview: Part of a new terrace of contemporary residential houses.ServiceFull hardware scheduling & bespoke finishProject Details3v worked closely with the Urban mesh to provide a full hardware package for this unique project. We always strive to build a close and longstanding relationship with our architects, Oliver Lazarus from Urban Mesh describes below how we worked together to find the best solution for this project.‘During the last 15 years we’ve worked with 3v on over 100 projects across all sectors. 3v provide a fantastic service in terms of specification, scheduling and ensuring that the correct hardware gets to site. We are also big fans of the Vieler ironmongery range for which 3v are the sole UK agents. At Coate St we specified the 05.ER.DG.117.DR-44 . which is a great lever handle and very popular with clients for its clean lines, solidity and smooth action. There were also a number of challenging door and furniture conditions requiring expert input. Most notably the handed front locks to garage and front door grill needed to provide a secure deadlock, be integrated with a door entry system, operate during a power outage, provide ease of egress from inside to outside without the need for additional switches or door release buttons. 3v came up with a great solution that the occupant of the house still enthuses about! Internally 3v specified an excellent ‘Squash court style’ magnetic latch which enabled us to design and detail a double fold hidden door.No other supplier had come up with these solutions previously and this is a great example of where 3v enabled us, with access to their expertise, to push design elements confident in the knowledge that they would understand the design question and go the extra mile to achieve the solution.’For more information about this project visit http://www.urbanmesh.com/iindex.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=151:coate-street-hackney-london&catid=24:projects&Itemid=132Photographs by Charles Hosea

We were approached to design & manufacture a range of steel fire-resistant riser doors and personnel doors for Europe's most advanced data centre, located in Canary Wharf, London. This 8-storey building offers 73,400 sqm of space - they needed simple yet secure riser doors to provide fire protection to the internal ducts, containing all the cabling and plumbing required in a sleek, discreet solution that provided maximum access, performance and safety.Alongside the riser doors, Eurobond designed & manufactured personnel doors that could be electronically controlled to control the access and provide an audit trail of personnel movement. The 2 key elements of this project were the riser doors - and the sheer volume required to cover the 8 levels and the access control requirements that had to be well planned and coordinated by Eurobond, the security contractor, end-user and architect.

Double Timber Fire Doors with High dB acoustic ratings

Forza Doors Limited

A stunning design by architects Townscape, Peter O’Sullevan House is located at the front entrance of the British Racing School in Newmarket. It provides the horse racing community in East Anglia with a local specialist facility for treatment and training. The facility incorporates a hydrotherapy pool, gymnasium, treatment rooms, changing rooms, conference room, offices and meeting rooms. Forza Doors supplied high dB acoustic American White Oak veneer fire doors and solid American White Oak frames as well as Class 0 spread of flame fire-rated wall cladding panels. All the veneers were laid horizontally to match perfectly down the length of the corridors and open spaces. The feature grooves embedded into the doors provide a smart contemporary look and align with the adjacent panels.  As this innovative building needed a high level of internal finishes and fittings throughout, the contractor RG Carter chose Forza Doors. Just one of several jockey rehab centres we have had the privilege to supply in recent times. Consisting of open plan areas, treatment rooms and hydrotherapy zones, the finished project looks stunning.
