Zeta:

  • Fully effective section profile offering maximum efficiency. Suitable for purlin spans up to 7.6 metres. No anti-sag bars required for the majority of roofing applications.

Zeta II:

  • Modified Zed section with additional stiffening for optimum structural efficiency and minimum weight.
  • Suitable for use as a roof purlin and cladding rail option for spans over 7.5 metre and heavier loads.

Zed:

  • Traditional Zed profile offering simple construction details. Fully compatible with Ayrshire's range of 'C' sections to frame around openings.
  • Can be used as a purlin over short spans and steep roof slopes.
  • Ideal as short span cladding rail.
  • Purlins and cladding rails.

C section:

  • Traditional C section with a 90 mm flange profile offering simple construction details.
  • Can be used as a purlin and cladding rail over short spans.
  • Purlins and cladding rails.

CW section:

  • Traditional CW section with a 65 mm flange profile offering simple construction details.
  • Can be used as a purlin and cladding rail over short spans.

Standard product features

General:

  • Zeta, Zeta II, Zed and C section: Purlin and Cladding Rail profiles manufactured from galvanized steel S450GD + Z275, with minimum guaranteed yield strength of 450 N/mm².
  • CW section: Purlin and cladding rail profiles manufactured from galvanized steel S390GD + Z275, with minimum guaranteed yield strength of 390 N/mm².
  • Cleats made from Grade DD11 steel to BS EN 10111:1998.
  • Base plates for bolt-on cleats made from Grade S275 material to BS EN 10025.
  • All other accessories made from Grade S280GD+Z275-N-A-C zinc coated steel to BS EN 10326.

Product Options

Type:

The product reference combines the purlin section type, either Zeta (1), Zeta II (2) or Zed (Z) and then requires values to be input based on the depth and thickness required i.e. 1/12513 refers to Zeta section, 125 mm deep and 1.3 mm thick.

The following depths and thickness are available:

- Depth:

  • Zeta: 1/125, 1/150, 1/175 and 1/200 mm.
  • Zeta II: 2/225, 2/245, 2/265 and 2/285 mm.
  • Zed: Z/125, Z/140, Z/155, Z/170, Z/185, Z/200, Z/240 and Z/300 mm.
  • C section: C/90, C/105, C/140, C/160, C/180, C/200, C/270 and C/340 mm.
  • CW section: CW/125, CW/140, CW/155, CW/170, CW/185, CW/200, CW/240 and CW/300 mm.

- Thickness:

  • Zeta: 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 2.0 and 2.5 mm.
  • Zeta II: 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 mm.
  • Zed: 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.7, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 mm.
  • C section: 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 and 3.2 mm.
  • CW section: 1.5, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 mm.

General:

  • Purlins and rails roll formed to ordered length.
  • Holes positioned along length as required.

System type: applies to all purlin profiles unless noted otherwise.

- Butted:

Single spanning sections without sleeves. Non continuous system, suitable where depth constraints exist and sections are fixed between supports.

- Double span (Zeta and Zeta II ONLY):

Double spanning sections with only a minimum number of sleeves to alternate purlins across the penultimate support. Does not give quite the same strength capacity as the Sleeved system, but with fewer components is faster to erect. Alternative to sleeved system up to 7.5m span.

- Double span heavy end bay (Zeta ONLY):

Similar to Heavy end bay system, but using double spanning interior purlin lengths and fewer sleeves. Does not give quite the same strength capacity as the Heavy End Bay system, but with fewer components is faster to erect. Alternative to the Heavy End Bay system up to 7.5m span.

- Heavy end bay (Zeta, Zeta II and Zed ONLY):

Single spanning sections with sleeves at all supports providing a fully continuous system. End bay sections and sleeves increased in gauge to compensate for the lack of continuity at the gable. Increased capacity for longer spans and/or heavier loads. Suitable as a purlin system for longer buildings with five or more bays.

- Sleeved (Zeta, Zeta II, Zed and CW Section ONLY):

Single spanning sections with sleeves at alternate supports and on all penultimate rafters. Sleeves act as 'mechanical hinges' to provide maximum structural efficiency for the number of components employed. Suitable for most building applications.
