Unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U) framed rooflight; triple glazed in UV protected polycarbonate, which achieves a U-value of as low as 1 W/m²K.

Features and benefits:

  • Exceeds the requirements of Part L of the Building Requirements.
  • Low air leakage rates.
  • The upstand consists of a single PVC-U profile, which is designed to create a secure, weathered and warm connection between the glazing and the roof.
  • The kerb is compatible with polymeric, PVC or bituminous roofing membranes and mastic asphalt systems. The rooflight assembly includes a unique termination detail to ensure the edge of the roofing membrane is fully protected.
  • The rooflight assembly includes a unique termination detail to ensure that the ‘top edge’ of the roofing membrane is fully protected. A special ‘key’ finish to the PVC-U standard kerb increases roof membrane fixing options, and kerb is torch-on system friendly.
  • The modular construction allows the roofing finish to be applied to the upstand prior to the glazing. This procedure minimizes damage and the need for protection, and eliminates dressing around the vents.
  • Non-fragile – polycarbonate rooflights achieve a Class B rating to ACR[M]001:2014, and glass options are available with a CWCT Class 1 or Class 2 specification.

Kerb – roof attachment:

Xtralite has developed their own mounting systems to aid attachment and make the installation process easier.

  • To suit flat board insulation – Code A: Add vertical risers to suit the depth of insulation specified - as standard supplied with a 130 mm vertical attachment to ensure a good interface between board insulation and the rooflight kerb.
  • To suit cut to falls insulation – Code B: Add vertical risers to suit the maximum depth of the tapered insulation scheme.
  • To suit a cold roof – Code C: Suitable for a splayed or vertical kerb, 160 mm high.
  • To suit a new timber ground – Code E: 160 mm high, for fixing to the of a newly constructed timber ground equal to or greater than the depth of the new insulation.
  • To sleeve over an existing curb or upstand – Code F: Vertical risers are added to ensure the ventilation modules and or glazing do not foul the existing protrusions.
  • To suit an existing timber ground – Code G: Variable height using PVC-U plugins for fixing to an existing builders kerb or plinth.

Glazing details:

Double glazed insulating glass units offer a low U-value alternative to polycarbonate: selection of high specification glass can reduce solar gain and rain noise while retaining non-fragile status. Consult manufacturer for recommendations.

- Colour:

Available in four colours:

  • Bronze: Reduces light transmission and solar gain.
  • Clear: Offers high light transmission and allows full vision of views or objects.
  • Diffused: Offers high light transmission and prevents vision of views and objects.
  • Opal: Prevents vision of views and objects.

Security:

Xtralite offers a range of security options to prevent unauthorized access, depending on the level of security required.

  • Intruder grid (IG): 3 mm diameter, fully welded, steel mesh in a 75 mm grid which is fixed between the upstand and the roof structure. The grid will resist entry even when the rooflight has been compromised or removed.
  • Tamper resistant fixings (SS): Screws with inaccessible thread assemblies.
  • Security frame (SF): Robust, aluminium framing system that encloses and secures the outer edge of the glazing and clips onto the lower assembly.

Ventilation:

Xtralite rooflights can incorporate a range of ventilation and access systems.

  • Unventilated (00): Fixed rooflight, suitable for situations where ventilation is not required.
  • Rota vent (02): The unique rotary action vent controller offers variable ventilation, distinctive internal appearance and smooth, silent operation; prevents 'in-blown' roof debris and water ingress. The cylindrical shape protects it from the outside elements using a continuous cowl feature and can be protected with integral insect mesh. The design of the vent ensures that there is no cold bridging between the outer and inner surfaces. When the vent is closed, it forms a virtual triple skin chamber with both air leakage and sound attenuation performance. The ventilation system is simply operated by rotating the operating handle.
  • Wormgear (03): The whole rooflight top hinges to allow ventilation through the open vent area.
  • Linear motor vent (06): The whole rooflight top hinges to allow ventilation through the open vent area.

Other requirements:

A unique continuous hinge is available which facilitates the opening of the ventilation zone and glazing (manually or electrically actuated). This allows for high-volume air ventilation.
