System performance

Guidance for specification option:

Vulkem Quick systems possess a variety of independently assessed accreditations for performance such as European Technical Assessment and a Broof(t4) fire rating under BS EN 13501-5:2016 fire classification of construction products and building elements.

Vulkem Quick systems comply with the performance guidelines set out in relevant UK Building Regulations, BS 6229:2018 Flat roofs with continuously supported flexible waterproof coverings, and LRWA codes of practice.

Vulkem Quick membranes also offer exceptional elongation and crack bridging properties that ensure long term durability.

Horizontal work

Vulkem Quick Primer (Direct Coating).

Guidance for specification option:

A two component, methyl methacrylate-based adhesion promotor that has a fast and controlled catalyst activation. The specific Vulkem Quick primer type is subject to adhesion tests and the proposed substrate material.

Standard Vulkem Quick primers:

• Vulkem Quick Concrete Primer:

  • Primarily used to enhance the adhesive strength of Vulkem Quick coatings to masonry, metal, and ceramic substrates.
  • Vulkem Quick Concrete Primer is hand-applied in a single coat with an application rate of 0.3–0.5 kg/m². Catalyst mixing is typically 2% by weight (20°C or below) but can be adjusted for lower ambient temperatures. Cure time is approximately 15-30 minutes.

• Vulkem Quick Asphalt Primer:

  • Primarily used to enhance the adhesive strength of Vulkem Quick coatings to asphalt substrates.
  • Vulkem Quick Asphalt Primer is hand-applied in a single coat with an application rate of 0.3–0.5 kg/m². Catalyst mixing is typically 2% by weight (20°C or below) but can be adjusted for lower ambient temperatures. Cure time is approximately 15-30 minutes.

• Vulkem Quick Primer H:

  • Primarily used to enhance the adhesive strength of Vulkem Quick coatings to green concrete substrates.
  • Vulkem Quick Primer H is hand-applied in a single coat with an application rate of 0.3–0.5 kg/m². Catalyst mixing is typically 2% by weight (20°C or below) but can be adjusted for lower ambient temperatures. Cure time is approximately 15-30 minutes.

Liquid-applied waterproofing

-

Type

Vulkem Quick Membrane.

Guidance for specification option:

A highly elastic, fully reinforced, polyurethane methyl methacrylate liquid applied membrane that cures in minutes with an advanced catalyst activation. Vulkem Quick Membrane has exceptional elongation and crack bridging properties offering a robust waterproofing layer that can easily cope with normal levels of structural or thermal movement.

Vulkem Quick Membrane is hand-applied in two separate coats with Vulkem Quick 100g Reinforcement Fabric installed between each coat. Each coat should be applied at a rate 1.4 kg/m² achieving a final waterproofing layer of 2.8 kg/m² (minimum 2.3 mm dry film thickness). Catalyst mixing is typically 2% by weight (20°C or below) but can be adjusted for lower ambient temperatures.

Reinforcement

AlphaGuard PUMA 165 g reinforcement fabric.

Guidance for specification option:

A strong, stitch bonded, polyester reinforcing fabric that provides enhanced strength to liquid applied membrane systems.

AlphaGuard PUMA 165g Reinforcement Fabric is applied between separate coats of AlphaGuard PUMA membrane. AlphaGuard PUMA 165g Reinforcement Fabric should be carefully embedded into the base coat, lapped by minimum of 50 mm, and laid flat without creases, air pockets or prominent fibres.

Surface protection

Vulkem Quick Wearing Course.

Guidance for specification option:

The Vulkem wearing course comprises of three component parts that form a strong, robust, and physically resistant layer for high traffic areas.

  • Vulkem Quick Membrane Blinding Coat.
  • Peran Sand (0.3—0.8 mm).
  • Vulkem Quick Top Coat.

Vulkem Quick WP is applied as an unreinforced blinding coat at a rate of 0.5 kg/m². Catalyst mixing is typically 2% by weight (20°C or below) but can be adjusted for lower ambient temperatures.

Whilst the blinding coat is still curing, broadcast a layer of Peran Sand (0.3—0.8 mm) at a rate of 3—5 k g/m². Once the blinding coat has cured remove any residual aggregate by sweeping or vacuuming. Apply a finishing layer of Vulkem Quick Top Coat at a rate of 0.3—0.5 kg/m².

System accessories

TremDome.

Guidance for specification option:

A traditional domed style rooflight that includes a thermally broken insulated kerb with excellent natural light transmittance properties. TremDome rooflights come with a variety of ventilation accessories and can be operated manually or electronically. Design is subject to survey or client requirements.

TremDrain.

Guidance for specification option:

Gravity drainage outlets that have an integral membrane flange for sealing flat roof membranes. TremDrain outlets are manufactured from aluminium, are suitable for all roof types and offer excellent flow rate. Type, size, and design is subject to survey or client requirements.

TremClip.

Guidance for specification option:

Lightning protection systems are frequently installed to buildings to avoid damaging and costly lightning strikes. TremClip has a threaded securement base that includes a separate retaining clip to secure lightning conductor tape at predefined centres across the roof.

TremFlash.

Guidance for specification option:

A1 non-combustible secondary cover flashing manufactured from soft and workable zinc alloy. Primarily used as lead substitute in flat roof details such as wall chases or abutment flashing.

TremTrim.

Guidance for specification option:

TremTrim is a prefabricated GRP edge trim that is specifically designed for multiple flat roof waterproofing types. Compatible with various Tremco reinforced bitumen membrane and liquid applied membrane systems, TremTrim provides an effective termination of the specified waterproofing systems at the perimeter edge.

Ilbruck SP510.

Guidance for specification option:

General purpose low modulus sealant that is silicone free and cures to form a tack free surface. TremSeal mastic can be used to enhance the waterproofing integrity of a wide variety of detailing situations.
