System performance | Vulkem Quick systems possess a variety of independently assessed accreditations for performance such as British Board of Agrément, European Technical Assessment and a Broof(t4) fire rating under BS EN 13501-5:2016 fire classification of construction products and building elements. Vulkem Quick systems comply with the performance guidelines set out in relevant UK Building Regulations, BS 6229:2018 Flat roofs with continuously supported flexible waterproof coverings, and LRWA codes of practice. Vulkem Quick membranes also offer exceptional elongation and crack bridging properties that ensure long term durability. |
Preparation | - |
Horizontal work | TremStik Spray-on Primer.A solvent based synthetic rubber primer, specially developed for the effective adhesion of self-adhesive or torch applied membranes to compatible substrates. Once spray applied with the specific applicator gun, TremStik Spray-on Primer should be touch dry within 2-3mins achieving a coverage rate of approximately 12m²/L dependent on substrate porosity. Spray applied application should be undertaken 10-20cm away from the designated substrate and with a single pass ensuring an even spread of product. Please refer to the Tremco technical data sheet for further details. |
Skirtings and vertical work | As Horizontal work. |
Air and vapour control layer | TremVap.Bituminous self-adhesive air and vapour control layer (AVCL) / carrier membrane, reinforced with composite aluminium foil and glass fibre mat. TremVap has an extremely high vapour resistance and can provide an effective barrier against warm moisture laden air rising through the system. The upper foil facing is polyester coated and provides an ideal substrate for TremStik polyurethane adhesives when adhering TremTherm insulation boards. Membrane laps should be minimum 80 mm with overlaps facing down the roof slope to avoid negative laps. Rolls should be laid out perpendicular to the specified falls on the roof. |
Insulation | - |
TypeFlat roof thermal insulation boards manufactured from either Polyisocyanurate or Mineral Wool. TremTherm insulation is available in various incremental thicknesses, can be designed tapered, and will achieve the design requirements of our clients or Part L Building Regulations. | TremTherm PIR.Commonly specified throughout the industry for applications that require lightweight and thermally efficient insulation with good compressive strength.
TremTherm Mineral Wool.Specified for projects that require acoustic attenuation or A2 rated fire performance (non-combustible) under BS EN 13501-1 classification.

Fixing | TremStik PU Adhesive.Insulation boards should be laid out in break bond pattern, fully supported, and with all edges closely butted together to ensure thermally continuity. When laid on metal decks with partial support, the long edges of the boards should be laid perpendicular to the crowns of the metal deck with all board joints fully supported. Insulation boards are typically adhered using TremStik PU adhesive but in certain circumstances the boards can be mechanically secured with appropriate fasteners and pressure plates. Mechanical fixing patterns are subject to project specific wind uplift calculations. |

Type | TremPly 6 mm Protection Board.A 6 mm high performance, multi-functional, glass fibre reinforced, magnesium oxysulfate (MGO) board used as a protective layer to the thermal insulation in high traffic environments. |
Fixing | TremStik PU Adhesive.TremPly boards should be laid out in break bond pattern, fully supported, and with all edges closely butted together. TremPly boards are typically adhered using TremStik PU adhesive but in certain circumstances the boards can be mechanically secured with appropriate fasteners and pressure plates. Carrier membrane | - |
Type | TremVap.Bituminous self-adhesive air and vapour control layer (AVCL) / carrier membrane that is reinforced with composite aluminium foil and glass fibre mat. TremVap will provide an ideal base layer to carry and retain the specified liquid system. Membrane laps should be minimum 80mm. Rolls should be laid out perpendicular to the specified falls on the roof. TremVap should be dressed 50mm above the line of the thermal insulation or to the height of any vertical thermal breaks. |
Fixing | Self-adhesive.TremVap AVCL & Carrier Membrane is applied to the TremPly protection board by means of the self-adhesive backing. The TremPly surface must be suitably primed with TremStik Spray-on Primer prior to application. |
Liquid-applied waterproofing | - |
Type | Vulkem Quick Membrane.A highly elastic, fully reinforced, polyurethane methyl methacrylate liquid applied membrane that cures in minutes with an advanced catalyst activation. Vulkem Quick Membrane has exceptional elongation and crack bridging properties offering a robust waterproofing layer that can easily cope with normal levels of structural or thermal movement.
Vulkem Quick Membrane is hand-applied in two separate coats with Vulkem Quick 100g Reinforcement Fabric installed between each coat. Each coat should be applied at a rate 1.4 kg/m² achieving a final waterproofing layer of 2.8 kg/m² (minimum 2 mm dry film thickness). Catalyst mixing is typically 2% by weight (20°C or below) but can be adjusted for lower ambient temperatures. |
Reinforcement | AlphaGuard PUMA 165 g reinforcement fabric.A strong, stitch bonded, polyester reinforcing fabric that provides enhanced strength to liquid applied membrane systems. AlphaGuard PUMA 165g Reinforcement Fabric is applied between separate coats of AlphaGuard PUMA membrane. AlphaGuard PUMA 165g Reinforcement Fabric should be carefully embedded into the base coat, lapped by minimum of 50 mm, and laid flat without creases, air pockets or prominent fibres. |
Surface treatment | Vulkem Quick Wearing Course. The Vulkem wearing course comprises of four component parts that form a strong, robust, and physically resistant layer for high traffic areas.
Vulkem Quick WL resin is mechanically mixed with SNL Filler at a rate of one part resin/ two parts filler. The resin mixture is activated with Vulkem Quick Catalyst. Catalyst mixing is typically 2% by weight (20°C or below) but can be adjusted for lower ambient temperatures. Combined application rate should be approx. 4 kg/m². Whilst the wearing course mixture is still curing, broadcast a layer of Vulkem Aggregate 300 (0.4—0.8mm) at a rate of 3—5k g/m². Once the wearing course layer has cured remove any residual aggregate by sweeping or vacuuming. Apply a finishing layer of Vulkem Quick Top Coat at a rate of 0.3—0.5 kg/m². |
