TS5 low fertility topsoil.
Suitable for use as a low fertility topsoil.
A dark yellowish brown, slightly moist, friable, non-
calcareous sand with a weakly developed, very fine to fine granular structure. The sample was virtually stone-free and contained a low proportion of organic fines. No unusual
odours, deleterious materials, roots or rhizomes of pernicious weeds were observed.
The topsoil represented by the sample was found to be suitable for use as a low fertility topsoil, provided species with a wide pH tolerance or those known to prefer slightly acid soils are selected, and the physical condition of the soil is satisfactory. The sample was also fully compliant with the requirements of the British Standard for Topsoil.
