Tactile Flags - Special use flags

Tactile paving flags are used to assist the blind and partially sighted people at controlled and uncontrolled pedestrian crossings such as zebra/ pelican/ puffin crossings/ toucan crossings, traffic signals with pedestrian phases, crossovers, crossings away from junctions, kerb-to-kerb humps and traffic signals without a pedestrian phase.

The paving flags are available in three colour finishes to enable the partially blind to distinguish between different types of crossing zones:

• Red relates to controlled crossing zones.
• Buff is available to distinguish uncontrolled crossing zones.
• Grey is manufactured for the Republic of Ireland (ROI) market.

Tactile Flags:

• Blister paving is used to identify pedestrian crossings with dropped kerbs.
• Corduroy paving is used to denote a hazard such as the top/ bottom of a flight of steps.
