For both internal and external access. Ships ladder, sometimes known as companionway ladders are best for maintenance use and are particularly suitable for repairs and plant access, allowing operatives to climb up the ladder safely while carrying a toolbox.
An aluminium companion way ladder, designed in accordance with BS 5395-3 and BS EN 14122-2.
A single line handrail must be fitted to each side of the ships type ladder, and must be continuous when used with the platform top handrail.
They are used for both internal and external access between an angle of 65 to 75°. The deeper the roof section the greater the length of the opening required to maintain the headroom clearance of 1200 mm. This may need to be increased for alternating tread ladders due to the steeper angle.
