Protan UK Adhered System - EX-A Membrane - Warm Roof Construction

Adhered PVC single-ply membrane roof system for warm roof constructions.

Designed to be fully adhered using a moisture-curing polyurethane adhesive, the PVC contains stabilizers that make the product UV stable, flame retardant and resistant to both high and low temperatures. The membrane remains flexible at low temperatures and has a unique anti-slip surface.

Features and benefits:

• Designed to be fully adhered using a moisture-curing polyurethane adhesive.
• Manufactured from pliable PVC reinforced with knitted polyester, with a polyester fleece laminated to the underside.
• The PVC contains stabilizers, which make the product UV stable, flame retardant and resistant to both high and low temperatures.
• Membrane remains flexible at low temperatures, during installation and use. However, the PU adhesive should only be applied when the air temperature is above +5ºC.
• Unique anti-slip surface, which provides a significant safety factor when walked upon in wet weather.

Substrate:

• Concrete roof decking.
• Plywood WBP to BS 5268-2 and BS EN 636-3, minimum thickness 18 mm.
• Profiled galvanized steel deck, minimum recommended thickness 0.7 mm to BS EN 10147 Fe E280G Z275.
• Roofing Grade OSB Board to BS EN 300, Grade 3, minimum thickness 18 mm.
• Profiled aluminium deck, minimum recommended thickness 0.9 mm to BS EN 485-1/2/3/4:1995 and BS EN 1999-1-4:2007.

Durability:

Accelerated weathering tests and performance in service confirm that satisfactory retention of physical properties is achieved. All available evidence indicates that Protan EX-A membrane should have a life in excess of 40 years with mandatory maintenance.

Performance:

• Tensile strength (BS EN 12311-2:2000): ≥1,100 N/50 mm.
• Elongation (BS EN 12311-2:2000): ≥15%.
• Tear strength (BS EN 13210-2:2000): ≥300 N.
• Resistance to puncturing by static loading (BS EN 12470:2001): ≥200 N.
• Resistance to puncturing by impact (BS EN 12681:2006, at 23ºC): ≥700 mm.
• Foldability at low temperatures (BS EN 495-2:2001): ≤-25ºC.
• Peel resistance of joints (BS EN 12316-2): ≥ 150 N/50 mm.
• Shear resistance of joints (BS EN 12317-2): ≥1000 N/50 mm.
• Hail resistance (BS EN 13583): ≥17.
• Water vapour resistance, µ (BS EN 1931): 15000.

Fire Resistance:

• Achieved a BROOF (t4) rating when classified in accordance with BS EN 13501-5:2005 and tested in accordance with DD CEN/TS 1187:2012 Test 4. (Tested system comprised an 18 mm plywood deck, polyethylene vapour-control layer, 140 mm thick EcoTherm tissue-faced insulation and one layer of Protan EX-A fully adhered to the insulation using Protan ProBond moisture-curing adhesive.)

Properties of waterproof membrane:

– Protan EX-A 1.5 mm Membrane:

• Thickness: 1.5 mm + fleece.
• Membrane weight: 1.75 kg/m².
• Fleece weight: 180 g/m².
• Roll width: 2 m.
• Roll length: 20 m.
• Unique slip resistant texture.

Air Vapour Control Layer (recommended):

– Protan PE Air Vapour Control Layer:

• Thickness: 0.2 mm.
• Colour: Blue.
• Water vapour transmission: >78 m (Sd value), to BS EN 1931.
• Installation: Loose lay and overlap all side and end laps by minimum 150 mm and seal with double-sided mastic tape. Tape dimensions; 1.5 x 60 mm.
• Insulation must be mechanically fixed.

– Protan Self-Adhesive Air Vapour Control Layer:

• Thickness: 0.6 mm.
• Colour: Black/ Foil Top Surface.
• Water vapour transmission: >1500 m (Sd value), to BS EN 1931.
• Installation: Apply Protan VCL primer. Lay membrane and overlap all side laps by 60–80 mm and all end laps by at least 150 mm. Apply pressure evenly.
• Insulation can be mechanically fixed or adhered.
