Podium Deck Waterproofing System

Koster Aquatecnic Limited has a comprehensive range of BBA accredited waterproofing products specifically suited for the successful waterproofing of buried roofs, podium decks, balconies and terraces.

There are a number of key considerations in selecting the correct form of waterproofing for these high risk areas, they are:

• Does this deck connect to a below ground basement where waterproofing continuity is vital.
• What is the build up ontop of the structural deck?
• What is the structural deck made of - reinforced concrete / block and beam / Pre-cast planks?
• What is the space below to be used for?
• What drainage systems will be used?
• What wearing surface will be installed - pavers, grasses, etc?

Once the basic design has been established, a waterproofing strategy can be devised. The below system offers a highly effective solution for waterproofing these areas.

Firstly, onto a screeded slope to falls a primer coat of Koster Polysil TG 500 is applied to the clean, sound and solid substrate. This is a standard primer that locks existing salts into the substrate, hardens the substrate and provides a better bond between the waterproofing and the substrate.

Fillets made from Koster Repair Mortar Plus are to be installed into all internal junctions. this helps spread the stressing that may come to bear as a result of differential movement.

One coat of Koster NB1 Grey is then installed by brush across the entire are. this cementitious coating migrates into the screed and works to block the capillaries in the concrete and offer an ideal base for subsequent materials.

The main area of waterproofing is then made with Koster Deuxan 2C. It is applied in two layers with Koster Glass Fibre Mesh embedded in the fresh first layer.

The waterproofing layer needs to be protected by a protection membrane such as Delta Geo Drain Quattro.
