Plastimul
Description

Plastimul is a solvent-free paste consisting of selected water-emulsified bitumens, special fine-graded aggregates and additives. It is compatible with cement and sand in any mix ratio. Plastimul’s thixotropic consistency makes it easy to use for waterproofing vertical and sloping surfaces. It can also be used to waterproof masonry or concrete even when their surfaces are still damp due to insufficient curing or atmospheric condensation.

Usage:

  • Cold waterproofing of masonry or concrete poured over bare ground.
  • Waterproofing concrete tanks, cisterns or sump pits for storing water, including slightly acidic or alkaline water.
  • Waterproofing concrete gutters and chimneys.
  • Waterproofing flat roofs and terraces not subject to foot traffic.

When completely dry, Plastimul forms a waterproof plastic film that is resistant to re-emulsifying after prolonged immersion in water, even when slightly acid or alkaline, and resistant to aggressive agents present in the soil.

Preparation:

Moisten the surfaces to be treated. Surfaces must be free of cement laitance, as well as any residues of oil or grease from formwork release agents. The surface must free of excess material and aggregate. Cracks or crazing in the substrate must be repaired with Mapegrout Thixotropic or Mapefinish.

Product Options

Primer:

Dilute coat of Plastimul. Dilute 45–50% with water and mix until completely homogenous. Apply the solution with a brush. Allow to dry completely (3–6 hours) before application of subsequent layers.

Applications:

Waterproofing vertical surfaces:

  • Primer: Dilute coat of Plastimul. Diluted 45–50% with water and mix until completely homogenous. Apply the solution with a brush.
  • Coating (minimum): One coat at 1 kg/m³.
  • Reinforcement: Mapei fibreglass mesh (to be used when Plastimul applied over substrate with crazing).
  • Blinding: Not required.

Waterproofing horizontal surfaces not subject to traffic:

  • Primer: Dilute coat of Plastimul. Dilute 45–50% with water and mix until completely homogenous. Apply the solution with a brush. Allow to dry completely (3–6 hours) before application of subsequent layers.
  • Coating: Two coats at 3–3.5 kg/m³.
  • Reinforcement: Mapei fibreglass mesh inserted into first coat while still wet.
  • Blinding: Fine graded sand (0–1 mm).

Waterproofing horizontal surfaces subject to foot traffic:

  • Primer: Dilute coat of Plastimul. Dilute 45–50% with water and mix until completely homogenous. Apply the solution with a brush. Allow to dry completely (3–6 hours) before application of subsequent layers.
  • Coating: Two coats: First coat: Apply a render coat made up of three parts graded sand (0–1 mm) to one part II/A-L 32.5 cement to two parts Plastimul to one part water. Apply by trowel at 3–4 kg/m³. Second coat: Apply a render coat made up of three parts graded sand (0–1 mm) to one part II/A-L 32.5 cement to two parts Plastimul to one part water. Apply by trowel at 3–4 kg/m³. Overall thickness: 5–6 mm.
  • Reinforcement: Mapei fibreglass mesh inserted into first Plastimul render coat whilst still wet (to be used when Plastimul applied over substrate with crazing).
  • Blinding: Fine graded sand (0–1 mm).

Reinforcement:

Mapei fibreglass mesh inserted into first Plastimul render coat whilst still wet (to be used when Plastimul applied over substrate with crazing).
