Substrate preparation | - Manufacturer guidance - Substrate can be dry or slightly moist but not wet.
- It has to be free of frost, grease, tar and oil, loose particles, and any bond-inhibiting material.
- Protrusions must be minimized.
- Edges must be broken, (chamfered to approx. 45 degrees). Internal corners and wall/floor junctions must be rounded out with fillets.
- The material can be applied on concrete, plaster, masonry, and bitumen roofing membranes.

Application method | - Manufacturer guidance General: - Stir well before application.
- Clean tools immediately after use with water.
- Clean off dry material with KÖSTER Universal cleaner.
Elastic waterproofing of areas in ground contact: - Voids, open joints, etc. have to be closed prior to application using, for example, KÖSTER Repair Mortar.
- In wall/floor junctions, on construction joints and especially in areas at risk of cracking, KÖSTER Superfleece or KÖSTER Glass Fiber Mesh has to be embedded into the fresh first layer.
- Prior to backfilling, the coating has to be protected against mechanical damage, for example with KÖSTER Protection and Drainage Sheet 3-400.
- The installation of a suitable drainage system is also recommended.
- Suitable for waterproofing floor areas against rising damp.
- Expose coating to stresses such as movement, water etc., only after the waterproofing layer has completely dried.
- On horizontal areas, two layers of PE-foil are placed as a gliding layer on top of the cured waterproofing layer before screed is installed.
Balconies and terraces:
- KÖSTER KBE Liquid Film is especially suited for waterproofing balconies and terraces.
- Waterproofing drains, around downspouts and gutter connections can be applied in one seamless application without complicated detailing work.
- KÖSTER Superfleece or KÖSTER Glass Fiber Mesh is embedded into the fresh first layer of KÖSTER KBE Liquid Film over the entire area as well as at all connections.
- In cases of extreme joint movement or at wall / floor junctions, KÖSTER BD Flex Tape K 120 is embedded.
- On top of the fully dried coating, two layers of 0.4 mm PE-foil are placed as a gliding layer, followed with a reinforced screed layer thickness of 3 cm min. thickness.
Application of KÖSTER KSK membranes:
- KÖSTER KBE Liquid Film can be used undiluted as primer for KÖSTER cold self-adhesive membranes.
- The primer coat should cover the substrate completely.
- KÖSTER KBE Liquid Film is also used to seal the ends of the KÖSTER KSK membranes.
Area waterproofing:
- KÖSTER KBE can be used undiluted in a thin layer as a primer.
- It is applied with a brush, roller or suitable spray equipment in one coat.
- After the primer has dried, the waterproofing coats are applied.
- KÖSTER KBE Liquid Film can be applied with a roller, brush, trowel, paint brush or with suitable spraying equipment.
- Each coat must completely dry before the next coat can be applied.
- For area waterproofing, apply at least 2, preferably 3 coats.
- Embed KÖSTER Superfleece or KÖSTER Glass Fiber Mesh into the first fresh coat on the whole area.
- Fresh coatings can be protected from rain by applying KÖSTER BE Rainproof.
- Proper drying of the coating can only be warranted if the temperature during application and drying is above + 5 °C.
- KÖSTER KBE Liquid Film can be covered with other materials after 24 hours.
