The Kingspan KoolDuct System is an energy efficient ductwork solution for HVAC applications. It comprises Kingspan KoolDuct rigid phenolic insulation panels with aluminium facings on both sides, fabrication methods, jointing systems and a complete line of accessories to produce a pre-insulated duct System with premium thermal performance and where air leakage can be reduced to a fraction of that typical of sheet metal ductwork.

Ductwork design and frictional resistance:

Kingspan KoolDuct rectangular ductwork, including fittings, follows the same calculation principles and duct sizing methods as are used for rectangular metal ductwork.

The frictional resistance is comparable with that of galvanized sheet steel ductwork.

Operational limits:

The recommended operational limits for ductwork fabricated from the Kingspan KoolDuct® System:

  • Mean Air Velocity (maximum): 25 m/s
  • Design Pressure (maximum): Positive: 1000 Pa, Negative: 750 Pa.
  • Internal Air Temperature: -20ºC to +80ºC during continuous operation.
  • Size: Unlimited (provided that recommended Kingspan KoolDuct® fabrication techniques and installation procedures are strictly observed)
  • Ductwork located outdoors must be protected with a compatible weatherproof.

Kingspan KoolDuct panels are manufactured to the highest standards under a quality control system certified to:

  • BS EN ISO 9001: 2015 (Quality management systems. Requirements).
  • BS EN ISO 14001: 2015 (Environmental Management Systems. Requirements).
  • BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 (Health and Safety Management Systems. Requirements).


Kingspan KoolDuct insulation is CFC-free and HCFC-free, with zero Ozone Depleting Potential (zero ODP) and Global Warming Potential (GWP) ≤5.

Green Guide rating:

Kingspan KoolDuct panels have been assigned a BRE Global Green Guide 2008 Summary Rating of A.


The score obtained by Kingspan KoolDuct from the life cycle assessment of BRE Global Environmental Profiles Methodology is available online at Green Book Live, Certificate no. 500. : The lower the Ecopoints, the lower the environmental impact.

BES 6001:

All Kooltherm/KoolDuct insulation boards manufactured by Kingspan Insulation in the UK are certified to BES 6001 ‘Excellent’ (Framework Standard for Responsible Sourcing).

Faced on both sides with an extremely durable and protective low vapour permeability 25 µm aluminium foil reinforced with a 5 mm glass scrim autohesively bonded to the rigid thermoset modified resin insulation core during manufacture.

Panel dimensions:

1200 x 2950 mm.

Thermal conductivity:

0.022 W/m·K at 10°C mean and 19°C mean.

Thermal performance:

Satisfies the requirements of the Non-Domestic and of the Domestic Building Services Compliance Guides, BS 5422: 2009 and the TIMSA Guide.

Fire and smoke performance:

  • Class 0 / Low Risk to the Building Regulations, BS 476-6:1989 and BS 476-7: 1997.
  • EN 13501-1: 2007 +A1: 2009, B-s1, d0 'reaction to fire' rating under the European Fire Classification System (Euroclass).
  • EN ISO 5659-2: 2006: specific optical density of smoke – 0 (zero) at 25 kW/m² and 7 at 50 kW/m² with pilot flame.
  • ASTM E84 / UL 723: surface spread of flame index less than 25 and smoke developed index less than 50.
  • 2010 FTP Code: meet the requirement of IMO for low fire, smoke and toxicity risk.

Minimum compressive strength:

200 kPa at 10% compression.

Nominal density range:

55–60 kg/m³.

Water vapour permeance of the outer facing:

0.02 perm (grains/h·ft²·inHg) = 1.15 ng/N·s (ng/s·m²·Pa).
