Application

The product can be utilized beneath many types of finish including intensive and biodiverse green roofs, at both roof and podium levels within commercial and residential developments including:

  • Supermarkets.
  • Distribution centres.
  • Schools and colleges.
  • Shopping centres.
  • Underground car parks.
  • Podium decks.
  • Housing and apartments.
  • Office blocks.
  • Maintenance and amenity access areas.

Description

IKO blue roof provides stormwater attenuation capacity at source within the roof or podium deck build-up of a development. Suitable for use on inverted or warm roof build-ups and un-insulated decks with waterproofing membranes accredited to zero falls.

Features and benefits:

  • Controlled storage and release of stormwater in line with SuDS best practice/ legislation.
  • Reduction in roof penetrations and rainwater outlets (RWOs) required.
  • Zero fall.
  • Provides source control via SuDS schemes.
  • Contributes to the BREEAM rating.
  • Improves quality of discharged stormwater.
  • Good chemical resistance (to EN 14030).
  • Overall time and cost savings versus traditional methods.
  • Often no need to install underground attenuation tanks.
  • The IKO blue roof system is compatible with IKO Permatec hot melt, IKO Flexia , or IKO Bituminous membranes or IKO Permaphalt waterproofing systems.

 IKO Blue Roof comprises of:

-Restrictor chamber:

The control function that restricts the outflow of stormwater from roof or podium area levels to within the calculated discharge rates.

-Attenuation and drainage void:

Water falling on the roof surface percolates through the roof build up to the geocomposite layer. In periods of low rainfall it simply flows through the attenuation void to the restrictor chamber and into the roof outlet. However, when rainfall exceeds the maximum permissible discharge rate the void is utilized to attenuate the excess water and the volume of outflow is controlled by the restrictor chamber.

-Geotextile filtration/ separation layers:

Up to three geotextile filtration/ separation layers wrapped around drainage and attenuation layers: water passing through these layers is filtered to prevent any solid particles from entering the system.

The pre bonded geotextiles provide a separation layer which filters particles and fines down to 100 microns (µm), preventing the substrate from any ingression into the attenuation layer. The geotextiles must have a breakthrough head of zero to prevent standing water within the surface finishes.

Insulation

-

Water control layer

Minimum of 260 g/m² filter fleece.

Guidance for specification option:

  • Thickness at 2 kPa to EN ISO 9863-1: 1.2 mm.
  • Pore size (µm) to EN ISO 12956: ≤70 .
  • Dynamic perforation cone drop: 24 mm.
  • Breakthrough head: 0 mm.
  • CBR puncture resistance: 1600 N.

Overlay

Type

Topped with a 3-in-one perforated geocomposite layer.

Guidance for specification option:

Protection and filter geotextiles bonded to the top and bottom of the drainage core.

Protection layer

Geocomposite membrane.

Guidance for specification option:

Thickness at 2 kPa to EN ISO 9863-1: 13.2 mm.

Attenuation layer

Geocomposite attenuation and drainage layers.

Guidance for specification option:

Comprises of drainage, temporary attenuation, protection, filtration, separation, and controlled storm water discharge from roof or podium areas. The ABG blueroof drainage system provides attenuation capacity during key design storm events.

Drainage layer

Geotextile membrane.

Guidance for specification option:

A filter textile bonded to the upper part of the ABG blueroof system. Provides a separation layer which filters particles and fines down to 100 microns (µm), preventing the substrate from any ingression into the attenuation layer.

System accessories

Blue roof diffuser chamber.

Guidance for specification option:

Blueroof diffuser chambers are designed to filter water from downpipes locations on to blue roofs/ podiums. The aluminium chamber is connected to the base of the downpipe and contains a geotextile filter bag providing additional filtration.

  • Suitable for use with square and round pipes.
  • Suitable for pedestrian/ amenity access areas only.
  • Embedded lid to accommodate surface finish where required.

Blueroof outlet restrictor chambers.

Guidance for specification option:

IKO blueroof Restrictor chamber cited independently over each rainwater outlet, controlling the storm-water run-off/ discharge rate from the roof or podium area at the designed maximum outflow rate. The Restrictor Chamber must have orifices cited on all 4 sides of the unit to minimize the risk of blockages (single orifice not adequate). The Restrictor Chamber orifices are further kept clear from fines by the integral internal filter which lines the inner wall of the Restrictor Chamber, In the event of the maximum designed storm event being exceeded water can safely be discharged via the internal overflow. Material: Polypropylene unit to terminate below an independent manhole cover to be supplied by main contractor or landscape contractor. Allows for future maintenance access (twice annual).
