Application

Primarily used as a guardrail for warehousing and manufacturing facilities, IAE’s Duex Handrail Edge Barrier provides a guard around the edge of elevated platforms and mezzanines, and other potentially hazardous areas.


This version of the system includes a handrail and is specifically designed for pedestrian areas.


The system can also be used to define walkways and guard against casual access to machinery.

IAE’s Duex Handrail Edge Barrier system acts as a guardrail, and is designed to provide protection against falls and potentially hazardous areas.


The system has been load tested up to 1.5kN/m in line with BS 6180:2011 Barriers in and about buildings guidelines. This ensures the system is suitable for areas such as gangways, pedestrian traffic routes, balconies, mezzanines and platforms in industrial manufacturing and warehouse storage buildings.


The barrier is made up of bolt down posts, handrail, and welded mesh panels.


Specification:


Standard posts are 60 x 60 x 2 mm square hollow section uprights with a welded 10 mm thick base plate. The base plates are slotted so the posts can be secured to the floor with 4no M12 anchors bolts.


The base plates are offset so the plate is positioned behind the fence line, which avoids creating a trip hazard in the walkway.


The handrail is a 42.4 mm diameter circular hollow section tube supported at a height of 1140 mm to the top of the handrail.


The mesh panel is an IAE Duex 656 welded mesh panel, made up from 5 mm vertical wires, and twin 6mm horizontal wires.


The mesh panel fills in the area below the handrail to prevent ducking under, and is fixed to the posts using fencing clips and M8 security bolts threaded into inserts in the post. 


Components are manufactured from carbon steel and galvanized to BS EN 1461 as standard.


The standard powder coated finish for the system is RAL 1021 yellow for the posts, and RAL 9005 black for the mesh panel.
