Description

All IG standard lintels satisfy the thermal performance requirements of Approved Document L of the Building Regulations (E&W), Northern Ireland’s Technical Booklet F and Scotland’s Technical Handbook, section 6. The L1 range has Ψ values ranging from 0.2–0.3 W/mK, the exact figure depends upon the wall construction the lintel is built into.

The IG patented Thermal Break Plate reduces thermal bridging while adding extra rigidity. Profiled CFC-free insulation. Requires a damp proof course. For more detailed information applicable to a particular wall construction, contact IG’s technical team.

Performance:

- Fire:

IG lintels have been subjected to a fire test (WARRES No. 101263) in accordance with BS 476-20: 1987, at Exova Warrington Fire and achieved a one hour fire performance.

- Corrosion:

IG’s standard range of lintels are manufactured from high quality grade pre-galvanized carbon steel with a zinc coating of 600 g/m² (including both sides).

- Structural:

The IG lintel range has safe working loads as detailed in each applicable loading table in the IG Lintel Guide brochure. The structural performance figures within each table have been ascertained by testing in accordance with the requirements of standards BS EN 5977-2: 1983 and BS EN 845-2: 2003.

All ranges are suitable for a variety of cavity widths; add the following suffix to selected product code (below):

  • 50 – For cavity widths 50–65 mm.
  • 75 – For cavity widths 70–85 mm.
  • 100 – For cavity widths 90–105 mm.
  • 110 – For cavity widths 110–125 mm.
  • 130 – For cavity widths 130–145 mm.
  • 150 – For cavity widths 150–165 mm.

Manufactured in 150 mm increments; for minimum/ maximum lengths, consult manufacturer.

The following lintel ranges are available:

- 125–150 mm wide inner leaf:

  • Standard loading – L1/S WIL.
  • Heavy duty loading – L1/HD WIL, L1/XHD WIL.
  • Extra heavy duty loading – L5 WIL, L5/XHD WIL.
  • Extreme duty loading – L6 WIL.

- 215 mm wide inner leaf:

  • Standard loading – L1/SWIL 215.
  • Heavy duty loading – L1/HD WIL 215.
  • Extreme duty loading – L6 WIL 215.

Special lintels:

All IG lintel profiles can be manufactured with the following special requirements:

  • A feature plate can be supplied on all lintel profiles to suit 50–165 mm wide cavities.
  • A cant brick lintel can be supplied on all lintel profiles to suit 50–165 mm wide cavities. Specify width of cant brick when ordering; e.g. L1/S 100 WIL (CB = 65 mm).
  • All cavity lintels in the IG range can be stepped to suit requirements. Example specification: L1/ST 100 WIL (50 mm step).
