Application

The BioPanel living wall system is suitable for use externally or internally.

BioPanel has been fully tested in accordance with the requirements for the Centre for Window and Cladding Technology (CWCT) and passed all tests for weather tightness, water resistance and wind resistance, confirming its full suitability and compliance for use as a cladding material for commercial and residential buildings.

BioPanel can be retrofitted into existing structures or used as a green wall rainscreen cladding in new building projects.

Description

The BioPanel living wall system uses artificially irrigated and fertigated 'backless’ vegetated cladding panels complete with a natural growing medium. The panels are fixed through a void former and waterproof backing board to cladding rails.

The standard panels in Biotecture’s BioPanel green wall system are 600mm wide x 450mm high. When fully saturated the system weighs 75kgs per sqm.

The panels complete with plants sit on pre-fixed T section recycled aluminium rails which in turn are fixed to a cement particle backing board through the drainage void former material. This ensures that the irrigated zone remains in front of the backing board and there is no chance of any moisture tracking back to the rest of the fabric of the building.

Growing Medium

The BioPanel living wall system incorporates Grodan® as the growing medium. Grodan® is dimensionally stable, chemically inert, and supremely water efficient making it ideal for living walls.

Biotecture can work to any dimension by trimming and cutting the edge panels down to suit. This is pre-determined as part of the design process and the plants are pre-grown in the trimmed panels in the nursery prior to being installed.

Product Sustainability

The shells of the BioPanel living wall system is manufactured from recycled polypropylene and is responsibly manufactured in the UK from 100% recycled materials. The hydroponic growing medium is manufactured in the EU by Grodan who have been awarded an EU EcoLabel for sustainability. Additional Sustainability Information available on request.

Irrigation

Please note that the irrigation tank needs to be located in a weather-tight plant enclosure. A nutrient mix is required to be integrated with the irrigation system.

Support structure:

Support structure to provide maximum 600 mm fixing positions horizontally, 300 mm vertically and 150 mm centres to the perimeter of the wall in exposed locations.

Mechanical, electrical and water services will be required to be provided by others. Other items to be provided by others include irrigation pipelines, drainage route, and aerial wire. Consult manufacturer for details.
