Absorb-R GypLine αw Acoustic Plaster Lambeth Town Hall

Absorb-R GypLine αw Acoustic Plaster Lambeth Town Hall

Soundis

Lambeth Town Hall, a Grade II listed building designed by the well-known architects Septimus Warwick and Austen Hall, was opened on 29 April 1908 by the then Prince and Princess of Wales, subsequently King George V and Queen Mary and is a fine example of the Edwardian Baroque style of civic architecture. The remit for the New Town Hall was to provide a more peaceful working environment where council workers were not disturbed by noise levels and reverberation issues. As an example, where poor sound absorption and poor reverberation control is not resolved, staff members often experience problems with concentration, fatigue and headaches so practical work is always disturbed instead of being a pleasant working space.Soundis supplied and installed a Monolithic Absorb-R GypLine αw to the existing soffits and ceilings to create a Semi-Textured Finish to soffits and a Semi-Smooth Finish to public spaces and council meeting rooms.Morgan Sindall have monitored progress with pre-completion quality results and on site satisfaction reports which indicate that exceeded the expectations of all involved with this project. Morgan Sindall also highlighted and rewarded Soundis for Health & safety performance throughout the contract.

The on site recording studio has been used by The Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, and Bob Marley, adding to the rich history of the site.Other bands who have recorded on the grounds include Bob Marley, Iron Maiden and Status Quo.The project entailed the refurbishment of the internal swimming pool area. Main contractor SizeBreed Construction, gave the project to Soundis, to resolve the persistent reverberation issues within the area. Crucially, however, they didn’t want a solution which took away from the character of the building. This was perfect project for the seamless 25mm Spray Plaster Boards. This system can be applied to virtually any surface, including straight and curved walls, dramatic angles and arching domes. Which was particularly helpful on the outside the pool area. Acoustic spray plaster solutions offer a more flexible, discreet alternative to traditional acoustic solutions, such as suspended ceilings.

Soundis

Leeds University required a New Permanent Exhibition Gallery, and a Changing Exhibits Gallery, both of which would be supplemented with a Public Engagement Seminar Gallery in the University’s iconic Parkinson Building, which fronts onto Woodhouse Lane. Each of these galleries are susceptible to dramatically increased reverberation and echo noise problems once they start filling up with visitors, so a sound absorption solution was investigated and proposed by the Architect. The solution specified was a monolithic suspended raft ceiling rather than fabric wall panels or hanging.Soundis supplied and UK Acoustic Systems installed convex and concave Absorb-R GypLine αw. Absorb-R GypLine αw provided a coverage of 130 sq metres, offering high levels of sound absorption to each gallery, but also more importantly left the walls clear of panels and the ceilings without visible acoustic baffles, providing virtually seamless surfaces. This system was perfectly suited for the Treasures Gallery as it was able to provide an aesthetic finish and solution to improve the experience of the visitors in the galleries.“Vice-Chancellor Sir Alan Langlands said: “We are incredibly proud of our Library with its Special Collections of international importance which have been built up over the past century.”

The Spirit of Sittingbourne is a town within itself, offering town centre shopping, city living, hotel and a cinema complex.Within the Travelodge on this town centre development Soundis provided Soundis Acoustic Battens overlaid with an 18mm OSB and mineral wool insulation between the battens. This specification is a perfect combination of providing great impact and airborne acoustic performance due to the resilient layer pre-bonded to the battens along with the void created by the battens and the added mass within the build up from the mineral wool insulation.Acoustic solutions for both airborne and impact noises...The cinema specification on this project was a lot more specialised as are all solutions to the required acoustic flooring within cinemas. The system used on this project was the Soundis CineSystem – Ultra (Concrete/Structural Screed), one of two CineSystems which Soundis offer for anti vibration flooring requirements. This system is the natural choice of a floated build-up when there are no constraints in regard to weight, distribution etc. due the additional mass that this system provides and offers the greatest acoustic benefit.

In 2015, Quinn London Ltd started the refurbishment of The Market Building, in Brentford which involved the conversion of Offices to residential dwellings as a ‘Material Change of Use’ project. Soundis provided acoustic solution options for this project, in order to ensure a cost effective Value Engineering Exercise, on behalf of the Main Contractor. As the 1st floor required a deep void system due to new soil pipes and waste pipes having to be installed along the corridor within the building for kitchens and bathrooms, it was agreed to utilise Soundis Cradle & Batten System. This provided a service void for the pipes of 300mm whilst the other areas of the floor were treated with the system at 80mm FFH. The Soundis cradle & batten acoustic floor was then overlaid with a Soundis a high quality, interlocking dry screed system gypsum fibreboard. The Soundis cradle & batten floor system has been installed on the existing concrete and existing timber structural floors to provide a level floor over the un-even sub-deck. The service void provided by Soundis cradle & batten system can be used for other flooring applications, such as underfloor heating. Our Cradle and Risers are manufactured from 100% recycled materials assisting to the sustainability targets of projects.

Cowley Road in Brixton is situated in a vibrant area of London where main contractors, Pinnacle Building Solutions were faced with the task of refurbishing an existing apartment block to a standard that reflected the higher standards of living now demanded in the area.Pinnacle Building Solutions were tasked with reducing not just airborne noise, but impact noise too. This is a classic problem in buildings constructed when building regulations were considerably more lax than today. This problem is compounded by modern tastes having moved away from carpets throughout the living space. Finally, the tight urban site demanded that all trades work together to an equally tight schedule of works.Soundis supplied over 2,850m2 of Acoustic Matting and Underlays. The end result being an installation that surpassed the building regulations Part E for both airborne and impact noise with ease.
