The Doyle family has been making paint and brushes for generations. You could say it’s in our blood. Family is at the heart of everything we do. From Andrew Doyle, whose creative spirit drove him to found Fleetwood, to his sons, Conor and Brian, who built the business into the household name it is today, and his grandson Alex, who began sweeping the car park in his summer holidays and worked his way up to running the company.
It was 75 years ago that we made our first paint brush and 45 years ago that we created our first can of paint. In 1970 a new Fleetwood factory opened in Virginia, County Cavan, to make rollers and to assemble frames. Conor and Brian Doyle, however, had bigger ambitions for the company and were keen to add paint to the offering. Fleetwood Trade Paints was born, in partnership with Sherwin Williams, and the first can of five-litre white matt emulsion came off the production line in Virginia on January 12, 1979.
It was – and still is – paint made in Ireland for Ireland. Paint that is the result of skills honed over generations and decades of groundbreaking innovation. Paint that is unique, shaped by and formulated for Ireland. As a company, we continually invest in R&D, with over 15% of our company actively involved in this department, to ensure that we are achieving the superior quality in our paint. Our long-term commitment to manufacturing in Co. Cavan, at our ISO 14001 accredited facility, makes us unique in offering a low-carbon emission range of trade products to the Irish and international market.
Some of our International independent test certificates include:
· LEED v4.1 – Indoor Air Emission A+
· BRE Environmental Product Declarations – EN15804 / Eco Platform / MRPI
· WELL, v2.0
· BREEAM NC 2018
· ISO 14001
· Class 1 Fire Rating BS 476
· EN ISO 11998 / EN13300 Class 1 wet – scrub resistance
· Paint Research Association (PRA)
· ISO 7783: 2018 – Water permeability
· EN 71-3:2029 – Child safe / Safety Paint Regulation
We are custodians not only of the Fleetwood name, but also the beautiful Lakelands of County Cavan, the location of our dedicated factory and where we call home. We take both roles very seriously. The attention we pay to every ingredient in our paint is what makes it so very special and the care we feel for the local and wider environment ensures everything we touch is made just that little bit better.
We’re innovators but not for the sake of it. We create products in a way that means everything that bears the Fleetwood name is of the very highest quality. The Doyle family’s spirit of craftsmanship lives on in every decision we make. When you buy a Fleetwood Trade product, you can be sure it is of the highest quality.
