F H Brundle

Set up by the Arts Council of Great Britain, the Serpentine Gallery annually commissions internationally renowned architects to design a pavilion on the Gallery lawn. One pavilion was constructed using F H Brundle’s Gratings and Flooring, complementing the design, maintaining its architectural integrity. Gratings combine great strength with light structures and non-slip properties, ideal for use on platforms, galleries, gangways and storage floors etc. Durbar sheets raised pattern feature forms a non-slip surface in any direction with excellent draining characteristics where required. Durbar sheets can be used as a structural component for vehicle flooring, walkways and bridges.

We all know the benefits of cycling with more people choosing to cycle rather than drive or use public transport, it has never been more important for local authorities and employers to provide bicycle storage solutions to protect the bikes from theft and the weather. This case study shows just 2 examples of where F.H. Brundle products have been used to construct bike racks and shelters using welded wire mesh and glass clamps.

Late 1960's Fred Dibnah MBE, nationally known as a steeplejack appearing on a documentary by the BBC, moved into his new house. Fred set about changing the house but also maintained a fully steam powered workshop in his back yard. Leon & Jan Powsney took possession in 2008, though the house had been vandalised and fallen into disrepair, Leon was about to set out on his own adventure! Leon contacted F H Brundle, who were able to help in supplying infill panels for the open hand railings and bow top railings to ensure vulnerable areas were safe.

Glass Balustrade Fittings combined with split tube handrail provides a stunning finish inside or out every time. F H Brundle products were used to erect this great looking Frameless Glass Balustrade in Stoke Newington, North London, including Split Tube Handrail and Stair Treads.

The Olde Bell Spa in Retford, Nottinghamsire is a multi-million pound luxury spa which has recently been completed and opened it's doors in Spring 2017. It is one of the top Spas in the UK with an impressive indoor to outdoor vitality pool. F.H. Brundle assisted in the design of this installation and supplied a quantity of glass spigots & stiffeners, 25 linear metre of stainless steel split tube and 30m2 of 21.5mm toughened laminated glass.

Gabion Baskets from FH Brundle were used for the new Scottish Parliament landscaping project. Designed by Enric Miralles, the landscaping of the new Holyrood site presented challenges. Although level differences within the landscaped area varied, in places they were marked as 5 metres. The solution was to introduce gabion baskets filled with stone; their appearance was not only of paramount architectural importance, but they also needed to satisfy the issues of aesthetics, durability, sustainability and cost. F H Brundle provided Burdens, supplier to Laing O'Rourke with around fifty stainless steel gabion baskets of varying sizes.

The obvious advantages of Juliet balconies are that they enable French windows or patio doors to be installed rather than conventional windows, filling the room with light, increasing ventilation and creating a greater sense of space, with the balcony itself providing a safety barrier. This Sky Force 2 part balcony application was quickly and easily installed and mounted directly onto the window frame and masonry ?thanks to it's innovative "slide & click" technique. Minimal and versatile, Sky Force balcony provided the uninterrupted views our customer desired.

The customer requirement was for a light coloured and open handrail system that was easy to install on a decked area in a domestic setting. They chose our recently introduced Marano 5050 aluminium bolt down post system. It’s pre-assembled posts are supplied ready to install and glass is easy to fit using our 4 step guide and installation video. Also available are side-fix posts with all posts supplied complete with caps, screws, packer etc. The system’s versatility, ease of installation and competitive price simply ticked all the boxes for our customer who wasted no time installing it.

Our ethos of "All this from one supplier" certainly held true in helping secure the business for a Rinato Premium decking, glass spigots and glass balustrade project. Rinato Premium solid core boards were used for this stunning application. The durable, stylish and weatherproof boards are manufactured from recycled polymer and require virtually no maintenance. Rinato Premium is particularly suited for balconies, where gaps between the boards can be closed using our double fixing clips. Base fix glass spigots, 10mm monolithic glass panels and split tube handrail was then used to complement and complete this amazing glass balustrade project.

Pro-Railing stainless steel handrail was chosen for its versatility and value for money. The client wanted to keep the restaurant setting as open as possible, glass clamps provided the ideal solution for glass infill panels to be used. The flexibility of the components ensured that all the requirements could be met from within the range, giving minimum disruption during installation. F.H. Brundle was the supplier of choice in a recent glass balustrade installation for the restaurant terrace at the Bolney Wine Estate. Established in 1972 as Bookers Vineyard, the 39 acres Bolney Wine Estate has won many coveted national and international awards. The Estate used our stainless steel Pro-Railing system, including external stainless grade 316 pre-assembled posts and fittings. It's a great example of how our system can easily and quickly be installed . The Pro-Railing solution provides a long lasting, low maintenance installation that allows visitors to enjoy views across the vineyard.

F.H. Brundle was the supplier of choice in the recent redevelopment of the iconic east London venue, Walthamstow Stadium. Products supplied for the development included all frameless aluminium channel, namely PanelGrip, chosen for it's ease and speed of installation. The project was completed using round stainless steel top rail and fittings. F.H. Brundle also supplied all Juliet glass balconies.

Knights Garden Centre opened a 120 seater restaurant at their Chesham branch. F.H. Brundle was chosen as the main supplier for the fencing and security gates to protect the site, and also provided all the pre-assembled Pro-Railing posts and fittings to create a stunning coffee shop terrace with views over the surrounding fields. In this project, the use of 10mm glass clamps as signage holders demonstrates the unique versatility of the Pro-Railing range of products.

F.H. Brundle was approached by a young designer who had been selected as a finalist of the prestigious RHS Young Designers. Being tasked to create a garden highlighting the health benefits of plants and gardening, he was inspired by brownfield sites which could be transformed into playful community spaces with further allotment and social space. We were happy to sponsor this young designer and his Show Garden at the RHS Flower Show in Tatton Park. F.H. Brundle supplied tube clamp fittings and galvanised tube. We are very pleased to say our young designer bagged himself a silver medal.

Opening in 2008, designed by Marks Barfield Architects (designers of the London Eye), the 200 metre long by 18 metres high treetop walkway at Kew Gardens is constructed from weathering steel and believed to be strong enough to last 500 years with expanded steel used in the floor and sides of the walkway requiring minimal maintenance. The £3m steel structure runs for 650ft though Capability Brown woodland at the Royal Botanic Gardens. On clear days you can see bird's-eye views of the gardens and the London skyline. F.H. Brundle was instrumental in supplying materials for this project.

In 2009, FH Brundle, the UK’s leading wholesale distributor of welded wire mesh supplied mesh for the construction of 2 interactive book installations, commissioned and produced by the South Bank Centre as part of the Imagine Children’s Literature Festival held at the world renowned Royal Festival Hall in London. Welded wire mesh is a versatile material used in domestic, industrial, agricultural and architectural applications, both internally and externally. Also used as security mesh, machinery guards and window grilles. Anti-collapse mesh is used for gabion baskets and architectural mesh is used in applications such as walkways, balustrades and cladding etc.

Livity, a youth marketing agency exists to benefit the lives of young people. Livity wanted to create an upcycled and industrial look within the space, Tube Clamps seemed the natural choice. The clean galvanised Tube Clamps combined with reclaimed scaffolding planks provided the industrial look adding the practicality of wheels easily adapting to their space. Designer comments, "Livity needed to fit the aesthetic of their space and have versatility that required an array of materials. Brundle was a clear choice as it had everything I was looking for.
