Modern School Washroom Upgrade - open plan school washroom design for Wadebridge School new music block.Wadebridge School, a coeducational secondary school in Cornwall, prides itself on creating a supportive atmosphere that aims to encourage students to reach their full potential. The school undertook a major renovation of its music block school washrooms, transforming two separate toilet areas into an open plan-design.Paul Holman from Aston Reef Consultant Engineers led the design of the new school toilets, with the goal of creating an inviting space visible from circulation areas, allowing school staff to passively monitor student behaviour. The design included a long run of HiZone for Schools toilet cubicles by Bushboard Washrooms, ensuring ample facilities for both male and female students during busy break times. The toilet cubicles were specified in Cobalt Blue to match the existing corridor décor. The HiZone for Schools toilet cubicles are designed in accordance with the Department for Education (DfE) regulations for secondary school washrooms, which require full-height cubicles to offer maximum privacy. These cubicles feature a 5mm door clearance, aluminium privacy skirting, and privacy strip with anti-finger trap hinges which also reduces the door gaps to just 5mm. Made from High Pressure Laminate, the cubicles are both water resistant and durable – ideal for school washrooms. All the features of the new school toilets are aligned with DfE guidelines aimed at preventing anti-social behaviour, particularly mobile phone use, and vandalism.Estuary Building and Plumbing served as the main contractor for the project. Jake, the Company Director, praised Bushboard’s washroom products, he noted the ease of the order process and was pleased to use the products again, telling us the “quality is second to none”.The project also included Bushboard’s Ready Plumbed Module Duct Panels, pre-plumbed with our own brand SanCeram sanitaryware and brassware. These pre-plumbed panels are mounted to a sturdy galvanised steel frame, Jake found the installation much faster and more efficient with everything ready to go once delivery had been received. To complement the school toilet cubicles, back-to-back countertop vanity units were installed, offering ample washbasins without obstructing walkways. The Solid Surface countertops in ‘Concrete’ were chosen for their durability and non-porous properties, allowing them to withstand heavy use. The units also came pre-plumbed with SanCeram basins and push-action mixer taps, which are ideal for education washrooms due to their automatic shut-off feature, reducing water wastage and preventing flooding. The pre-mixed water ensures a safe temperature, enhancing both hygiene and safety.Overall, both Jake and the staff at Wadebridge School were highly impressed with the final results of the new school washrooms. The improved environment encourages positive student behaviour while enabling staff to monitor the facilities effectively moving forward.

Margam Country Park

Margam Country Park

Bushboard Washroom Systems Ltd

Margam Park’s new washrooms needed to be durable, easy to maintain and impress their visitors.Margam Country Park in Wales is owned and administered by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council. The estate containing a Tudor Gothic Mansion was once owned by the Mansel Talbot family in the 1800s. The 850 acre country park is rich in history, with evidence of over 4,000 years of continuous habitation and use by man. This means it has exceptional historic value, with some of the country’s finest architectural treasures. Paired with its natural beauty, wildlife and many activities and facilities, the Margam Country Park has evolved into a popular attraction which is visited by 350,000 people per year, including locals and tourists alike.Neath Port Talbot Council came to Bushboard Washrooms for the refurbishment of the public washrooms. The main concern for this project was ensuring that the toilets were able to withstand the high traffic the park receives each year. As Alison Lloyd, the Commercial Officer at Margam Country Park, explained “visitors often judge a site on the quality of the loos”, this meant opting for a robust washroom range which offered a modern, high quality finish that will remain presentable at all times.Initially designed for secondary schools with the key focus on privacy, our HiZone for Schools toilet cubicle at standard height was decided as the perfect specification for the country park’s needs. Alison put emphasis on requiring an “indestructible build”, the cubicles pilasters and partitions are fixed to the floor in aluminium channels which creates a strong foundation. The toilet cubicles were manufactured in Solid Grade Laminate which has a compact core making it a highly durable material. It is also impervious to water which makes it easy to clean as the panels do not need to be dried meticulously afterwards to prevent damage. The design of the public washroom was carefully considered. The council wanted to cater for everyone who would visit their park, with additions such as child height basins, family changing areas and enlarged toilet cubicles with grab rails for ambulant/disabled users. In particular, the park recognised parents with their children would regularly visit the park. They designed a superloo style room to utilise space, this was larger than a typical toilet cubicle which gave users more room to manoeuvre within the washroom space.Ease of cleaning was fundamental to the project because of the high traffic the toilet cubicles will endure. Our own brand SanCeram’s Langley WCs and urinals were chosen which both offer a smooth and rimless design to eliminate dirt traps, it also suited the “clean lines” Alison was looking for. Margam Park had sanitaryware and brassware ready plumbed which meant that that it arrived pre-fitted to panels assembled onto a rigid steel frame, this saved both time and money. Being a refurbishment project it meant the washrooms did not have to stay closed to the public for a long period of time.Vanity units were also supplied as Ready Plumbed Modules and designed to hit the parks public washroom brief. Solid Surface Counter Top vanity units are ideal for busy washroom environments as they are easy to maintain. Alison wanted to make sure that the washroom had ‘clean lines to clean’, so integrated inset wash hand basins were supplied which have a flush design leaving no dirt traps for a hygienic hand wash station whilst also creating a seamless, high-end overall look.Alison told us that the colours were “chosen to fit with the Country Park, a wood feel and green panels to make it bold and stand out”. Lime Green and Bleached Oak laminates paired with Apple Solid Surface colours from our standard range complemented the mansion scenes within the washroom perfectly. Overall the review of the new washrooms at Margam Park were “ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! We opened in time for the Early May Bank Holiday and feedback from public was great and staff love the clean lines and bright colours.”

Southlands Hospital

Southlands Hospital

Bushboard Washroom Systems Ltd

Southlands Hospital is a day-care medical facility based in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex. The hospital secured funding to create a new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC), involving an internal refurbishment of a wing currently housing administration offices and storage rooms. The proposed two-phased development began with phase one focusing on diagnostic imaging, including two MRI rooms, one CT scanner room, three X-ray rooms and the necessary support areas.Crowther Associates specified Bushboard Washrooms for the project, and the main contractor, Morgan Sindall, ratified the specification by opting for Ready Plumbed healthcare IPS units in Solid Grade Laminate. Our HBN compliant Traditional Boxed Out Unit supplied features large, hinged and lockable access panels which sits on a box with aluminium corner extrusions. This Healthcare IPS unit meets stringent healthcare regulatory demands for an ‘impervious, smooth and seamless finish’.A variety of healthcare sanitary assemblies were supplied to the hospital, including clinical wash hand basins, disposal units and janitorial units. The fit-out was completed while the hospital was still operational, emphasising the need to maintain a clean and controlled environment. For this reason, Ready Plumbed Modules were the perfect specification to keep on-site works to a minimum. These Modules are delivered to site pre-plumbed and tested with HBN compliant sanitaryware and brassware. Installing the Healthcare IPS units is quick and easy, they are simply fitted to the wall using brackets and secured with tie back rods, with only final connections to complete. Alexandra Duffy, Assistant Site Manager at Morgan Sindall, mentioned that the pre-plumbed IPS units significantly accelerated their schedule at Southlands Hospital. In addition to the Healthcare IPS at Southlands Hospital, Bushboard Washrooms also supplied DOC M sanitaryware and brassware for multiple WC rooms intended for patient and staff use. All drawings adhered to Approved Document M requirements to ensure the facilities were safe to use by ambulant and semi-ambulant users.Changing facilities were also required within the new CDC area. Our HiZone full height toilet cubicle meant the cubicles could be located in an open walk-through space while ensuring total privacy to users. Each toilet cubicle included a cantilever bench fixed to the wall with steel legs for added stability. Opting for Solid Grade Laminate for the toilet cubicles and benching ensures daily thorough cleaning without compromising material longevity. The project colour scheme utilised Bushboard’s standard laminate colours in Slate Grey, Orange, Turquoise, and Sage Green throughout the new CDC area. The hospital is satisfied with the Healthcare IPS, and Morgan Sindall is currently progressing with phase two of the project, where they intend to utilise Bushboard products once again.

East Berkshire Golf Club

East Berkshire Golf Club

Bushboard Washroom Systems Ltd

East Berkshire Golf Club has been in the Palmer family since its founding in 1903. The club faced closure in 1909 but was saved by one of its founding members, W. Howard Palmer. He purchased the estate from the original members, secured the club's future, and became its first president. The club features an 18-hole, tree-lined parkland course, attracting 875 members annually, along with approximately 8500 additional guests and participants per year in the club’s open meets. The golf club aimed to modernise and update their clubhouse while maintaining a traditional design that reflects the club’s heritage. In 2020, Nick Smith, Facilities Project Manager & Former President at East Berkshire Golf Club, contacted Bushboard Washrooms to begin upgrading the men’s changing room toilet area. The club sought a solution that was both aesthetically pleasing for their loyal members and durable enough to handle the daily footfall. After thorough consideration, the golf club selected Definition toilet cubicles, which offer a luxurious finish with 35mm panel thickness and rebated doors for a flush fronted design. Wenge laminate and Stainless Steel fittings delivered a sophisticated look, with the wood grain laminate finish also used for both the urinal and WC duct panels, supplied as Ready Plumbed Modules. This meant sanitaryware and brassware arrived on site pre-plumbed and pre-assembled to a rigid steel frame, significantly reducing installation time and minimising disruption.Bushboard’s own brand sanitaryware, SanCeram, was also chosen for its cost-effectiveness and high quality. The counter top vanity unit was chosen in Wenge with a complementary Mid Grey colour. This durable design provides space for users to place their belongings, such as changing bags, whilst using the washroom facilities.Following the successful completion of the men’s washroom upgrade, Nick contacted Bushboard Washrooms again in 2023 to begin work on the women’s changing room toilet area. This space mirrored the design in the men’s, but the Definition range was supplied as full height toilet cubicle doors to be used with partition walls to ensure total privacy in the washroom. There was also an oversized toilet cubicle supplied with a combination unit for ambulant disabled users.High Pressure Laminate was used throughout the entire leisure washroom project for its water-resistant properties and durability, making it ideal for high-usage areas like changing room toilets. The redesigned facilities were created with members in mind, offering a functional and inviting space that they would want to return to year after year. These washrooms are built to withstand busy periods while maintaining a luxurious atmosphere.Nick is extremely pleased with the finish of the washrooms and the service provided by Bushboard Washrooms. He reported an overwhelmingly positive response from current members, who feel the upgrades have significantly improved the changing room toilet facilities at East Berkshire Golf Club. Additionally, visitors from other golf clubs have inquired about Bushboard Washrooms for their own potential facility upgrades. The partnership between East Berkshire Golf Club and Bushboard Washrooms has resulted in modern, durable, and aesthetically pleasing washroom facilities that honour the club’s heritage. This successful upgrade has enhanced the overall experience for members and guests, setting a new standard for club facilities.
