Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) is made from timber lamellae - typically spruce. These are stacked in layers arranged perpendicular to each other and then bonded under high pressure using formaldehyde free adhesives to form large-format structural building components with bi-axial qualities.
The KLH solid timber panels are mass customised structural construction components that can be used as wall, floor and roof panels for construction projects of all building sectors. Thanks to the cross lamination of the timber lamellae, the effects of moisture movement in the panel plane are reduced to an insignificant minimum, whilst at the same time, it increases the overall structural load bearing capacity and dimensional stability in the panel plane.
The KLH panels are manufactured in accordance with the KLH European Technical Assessment (ETA-06/0138) and only kiln dried timber with a moisture content of 12% (+/- 2%) is used to produce KLH® solid timber elements. KLH® solid timber panels are CE certified building materials. The raw timber lamellae used for the production are sourced from sustainably managed forests and are either PEFC or FSC® C119602 certified.
The KLH elements are produced in our state of the art facilities exclusively on a project by project basis. The thickness and the number of layers of the panels are typically governed by the structural specification and fire resistance requirements. Using CAD/CAM processes and based on the approved fabrication drawings and/or a BIM model, the elements are precisely cut using our state-of-the-art CNC systems. The completed elements are then delivered directly to the construction site on a just-in-time basis, by articulated lorry. The site erection is carried out by KLH UK via approved teams of experienced specialist CLT installers, typically with the support of MEWPs and a mobile crane.
