Summary
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) movement joints/ expansion joint beads for rendering and plastering to allow mechanical and thermal movement.
-
-
Application

Designed to be applied horizontally or vertically on all standard rendering applications, external wall insulation systems, and timber framing systems. Designed to prevent cracking to render through thermal expansion and compression. Must be used over a structural movement joint once settling is complete.

For standard render, a movement joint must be used every 6 running metres, or every 25 m². For next generation renders, a movement joint must be used every 40 m².

Description

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) movement joints/ expansion joint beads for rendering and plastering.

Features and benefits:

  • Designed to provide function and speed on all external and internal rendering and plastering applications.
  • Gives a good finish to every type of render, including through colour render.
  • Can be used horizontally as a day joint to disguise a break in the application of render, and provide an attractive architectural detail with a gentle shadow.
  • Available in white and ivory across all PVC bead profiles (except MJ4, which is supplied in white only. Available in slate and dove for MJ10 and MJ15).
  • Manufactured from recycled, exterior grade, impact resistant, UV stable PVC, providing a cost effective alternative to stainless steel beads.
  • Will not to stain or corrode (like with galvanized steel beads), reducing spalling and impact damage.
  • Reduced installation time.
  • Not affected by severe weather conditions; the flexible plastic membrane provides a watertight seal, and can be specified in areas of high moisture or high salt.
  • Fast and easy to cut to length with tin snips or a fine toothed hacksaw, and is safer to handle than cut metal.
  • Fixing is no different from steel beads, and standard industry practice can be followed.
  • Supplied in 2.5 m lengths.
  • Durable; impact resistant and dissipates shock waves.
  • Can be cleaned in the same way as render.
  • Suitable for all habitable climates.
  • The chemical bond between flexible and rigid parts prevents separation.
  • Fit for purpose for the lifetime of the render; at least 25 years.

Performance/ Approvals:

  • BBA certified.
  • Class 1Y fire rated.
  • Manufactured in accordance with the British and European Standard for the design and application of external render (BS EN 13914-1: 2016), which stipulates that only PVC beads and stainless steel beads can be used in all applications including situations of high atmospheric or background moisture and high atmospheric or background salt.
  • Exceeds the British Standard for thermal movement BS EN 13658-2: 2005. The flexible plastic membrane gives a certified range of ± 2.5 mm. Protective tear off strip allows quick removal of render from the joint.
