Application

Thanks to its adaptability and performance, SonaSpray can be used in a wide range of settings:

  • Commercial: Offices, showrooms, boardrooms
  • Hospitality: Hotels, restaurants, bars
  • Entertainment: Film studios, concert halls, arenas
  • Retail: Shopping centres, high street stores
  • Education: Schools, universities, libraries
  • Cultural and Civic: Theatres, museums, town halls
  • Industrial: Warehouses, production spaces

SonaSpray noise reduction sprays are designed for ceilings and walls above 2 metres.

Please note that it is important not to use moisture resistant plasterboard as this can cause staining of wet applied products. Stain barrier primers and paints can be used to prevent this.

When using plasterboard as the substrate, a minimum of 12.5mm thick plasterboard, installed to British Gypsum specification should be used.

Acoustic spray application by ISO 14001 certified, Oscar Acoustics specialist trained, in-house teams.

Detailing of acoustic finishes - CPD

Oscar Acoustics offer a 'Detailing of acoustic finishes' CPD.

This presentation includes:

  • The biggest myths architects are still being told about reverberation, including frequencies and Class A absorption.
  • Live drawing detailing for avoiding common pitfalls and achieving a long-lasting acoustic finish.
  • Things to be aware of with all acoustic finishes.
  • An introduction to the pioneering ‘Sownd Certification’. A new global performance-based standard, designed to formally classify buildings as audio-inclusive.

Description

SonaSpray K-13 Special is a seamless acoustic spray with a medium texture. It absorbs sound energy and reduces reverberation in any interior space.

SonaSpray can be applied directly to most substrates including concrete, plasterboard, GRP, steel, glass and expanded polystyrene. It can also be sprayed onto complex architectural elements such as barrel vaults, domes and corrugated decks.

The seamless acoustic spray follows the lines of whatever is underneath, enabling designers to achieve curves and shapes. It can be installed quickly and economically compared with labour-intensive stick-on panel alternatives and is also suitable for application behind suspended mesh and timber ceilings.

All Oscar Acoustics' acoustic sprays are installed by specialist in-house teams and we cover the whole of Great Britain. Contact our team today to discuss your project requirements.

Features and benefits:

  • All SonaSpray projects qualify for Bronze level – Sownd Certification – an inclusivity certification for ensuring inclusive spaces for those with hearing or visual impairments and neurodiversity. For more information please visit https://www.sownd.co.uk/.
  • SonaSpray contributes towards many sustainable design and health certification systems including BREEAM, SKA, Living Building Challenge and adds up to 17 points towards the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating of a project.
  • Made of fire-rated, recycled paper and other rapidly renewable natural resources, including cotton and hemp.
  • Effectively lowers the carbon footprint of a building project by sequestering rich stores of carbon for the life of the structure or application.
  • Achieves M1 certification as a Low Emitting Building Material.
  • GREENGUARD, GREENGUARD Gold and Cradle to Cradle certified and compliant with CDPH/CA Section 01350.
  • Satisfies many features under the WELL Building Standard.
  • SonaSpray is covered by product-specific Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) in accordance with ISO 14025 and product-specific Health Product Declarations (HPDs).
  • The water-based adhesive provides a strong, durable and resilient bond.
  • Can be applied to virtually any substrate configuration.
  • Insulates by creating dead air macroscopic spaces between and within the hollow cellulose fibres.
  • Easily spray applied to flat or curved surfaces.
  • Installed by expert ISO-14001-certified Oscar teams.

Fire rating:

B-s1, d0 and Class 0 to BS 476 - significantly betters the requirements of the new Approved Document B providing little to no smoke and absolutely no droplets, assisting in the safe escape of occupants.

Emissions:

  • M1 emission class certified for building materials (best class).
  • Compliant with CDPH/CA Section 01350.
  • GREENGUARD Gold Certified for Indoor Air Quality.
  • BREEAM rating system HEA Indoor Air Quality.
  • WELL Building Standard®.

Environmental standard:

  • Environmental Product Declaration in accordance with ISO 14025 - EN 15804.
  • Living Building Challenge compliant.
  • BREEAM.
  • LEED.
  • SKA.
  • Cradle to Cradle.

Flangeless fittings:

90% of flangeless fittings do not work properly with any acoustic finish. If you are specifying a flangeless fitting, please contact Oscar Acoustics for advice.

Sound absorption:

Acoustic spray testing has been carried out as worst case, against concrete. Applying onto other substrates such as plasterboard with air gaps behind or profiled metal soffits, primarily increases absorption at low frequency which can increase absorption classes.

SonaSpray acoustic sprays can achieve any class as we can adjust acoustic performance by increasing and decreasing the material depth to suit the acoustic requirement and budget.

Please contact Oscar Acoustics’ technical department for free design assistance on mail@oscar-acoustics.co.uk or call 01474 854902.

Material/Recycled content:

Recycled content values for SonaSpray® fibres (excludes water-based adhesive):

Pre-Consumer recycled content: Minimum 80%

Recycled content values as installed (consisting of both fibres and water-based adhesive):

Pre-Consumer recycled content: Minimum 50%

Recyclability:

SonaSpray is a permanently installed interior finish material that is designed for the useful life of a building project. At the end of its useful life, the material may be removed and repurposed into thermal cavity fill insulation or for other recycling applications.

Disposal in accordance with local recycling/disposal rules.

Embodied carbon:

Can effectively lower the carbon footprint of a building project by sequestering rich stores of carbon for the life of the structure or application.

SonaSpray take back scheme:

Oscar Acoustics can take SonaSpray back and have it milled into thermal cavity fill.

Quality assurance:

  • SonaSpray is manufactured by ICC to ISO 9001.
  • Installed using a four stage Oscar Acoustics quality assurance plan.
  • Materials, equipment, labour and installation only to be provided by ICC’s sole licensee for Great Britain – Oscar Acoustics.

From specification to installation, everything is kept in-house. We have created our own purpose-built training facility in our Oscar Innovation Centre HQ. The ‘SonaSpray Training Academy’ provides a controlled environment for our teams to build their skills with our Head of Quality Control. This ensures a high-quality and long lasting acoustic finish every time.

Material:

Mixed pre-consumer recycled papers and other rapidly-renewable resources including cotton and hemp.

Binding agent:

Water based adhesives

Standard colours: White / Black / Beige / Light Grey / Grey.

Special colours: Bespoke colours are manufactured to order. Minimum order quantities apply, and square meterage is dependent on the product and thickness of spray. Please send us your colour requirement using a RAL, RAL Design or Dulux paint reference and we will respond with quantity, price and colour samples.
