Summary
Thermally broken cavity wall lintels.

Application

Energy efficiency is a top priority for thermally broken lintels. Replacing traditional lintels with Catnic thermally broken lintels means that heat loss through a window head detail can be reduced by up to 96%.

In a typical four bedroom house with 1,200 square feet, the heat loss through a standard lintel can account for about 6%* of the overall heat loss through the fabric of the house. Using a Catnic thermally broken lintel reduces this to 0.25%, making it extremely effective.

Our lintels are designed to support:

  • Triangulated masonry load.
  • Supporting uniformly distributed masonry load.
  • Supporting uniformly distributed timber floor and roof loads.
  • Suitable for fair faced inner leaf masonry.
  • Supports concrete floors.
  • Attic truss loads.
  • Larger span multiple truss loads.

Description

Catnic’s Thermally Broken Lintels comprises powder-coated galvanised steel components on either side of an expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation core. The steel elements are bonded to the insulation using dedicated, heavy duty adhesive. This unique design provides a complete thermal break between the inner and outer leaves without using brackets, resulting in outstanding thermal performance – ψ (psi) value always 0.05 W/mK or less.

Catnic produce a range of thermally broken cavity wall lintels, suitable for the following cavity sizes:

  • 90–105 mm,
  • 110–125 mm,
  • 130–145 mm,
  • 150-165 mm,
  • 170-185mm,
  • 190-205mm.

Lintel features and benefits:

  • Heavy duty.
  • Duplex corrosion protection system.
  • Integral plaster key
  • Continuous insulation.
  • Industry leading linear thermal transmittance psi values of 0.03 to 0.05 W/mK.
  • Safe working loads in line with Catnic’s existing cavity wall lintels.
  • Manufactured from powder coated galvanized steel.
  • Options are available to suit cavities from 90 to 205 mm, in standard, heavy and extra heavy duty performance categories.

Lintel Safe Working Loads (SWL) and weight are dependent on lintel's length.
