Description

A range of cladding boards manufactured from kiln-dried Western Red Cedar, part of the SILVACLAD™ range - a selection of beautiful, versatile, and durable wood cladding systems designed to meet the needs of modern architecture.

Select Premium Clear Vertical Grain (VG) is produced from the highest quality clear vertical grain Western Red Cedar. The raw material is harvested from forests in the coastal regions of British Columbia, Canada, an area known to yield the finest, dense grained cedar logs.

V-Joint Tongue & Groove

The V-Joint Tongue & Groove profile can be installed horizontally or vertically. A bevel on both edges of the face creates a neat v-shaped shadow line that accentuates the height or width of any façade.

Optima Channel 10

This Western Red Cedar Channel 10 profile is part of the Optima Series, a range of secretly fixed cladding profiles that provide a sleek, contemporary finish. Optima Channel 10 Cladding profiles feature a discreet nail line for ease of installation, together with a substantial overlap where the boards connect to accommodate the natural movement in wood. A square-sided recess where the boards meet creates bold shadow lines that will accentuate either the height or width of the façade. Boards connect with a tongue and groove system for easy installation.

Boards

Boards can be used for open-jointed cladding in conjunction with a suitable breathable membrane (DuPont™ Tyvek® UV Façade). Alternatively, to add a sense of depth and texture, create board-on-board style cladding using any combination of board sizes.

TIGA Rainscreen

The TIGA Rainscreen profile allows boards to be installed without any visible fixings using a unique fastening system that engages the board from the rear. It features a chamfered on both edges to provide an overlap between the boards and to drain water to the outside. The open joint creates strong shadow lines, which will accentuate the width of a façade.

Bespoke Profiles

Available (subject to minimum volume).

Features and benefits:

  • Colour: Palette of rich, warm wood tones, which vary from light amber to dark reddish-brown.
  • Vertical grain (VG): Vertical grain wood has superior properties to flat grain. It has better dimensional stability, better resistance to UV degradation, very low surface cracking and checking, and better finish absorption and retention qualities.
  • Durability: When properly finished and maintained, Western Red Cedar will deliver decades of trouble-free service. It has a decay resistance of durability class 2 (durable) according to the EN 113 standard.
  • Stability: Western Red Cedar has excellent dimensional stability because of its low wood density and shrinkage factor. Shrinkage and swelling are minimal, displaying only small movements with changes in humidity.
  • Density: The wood of Western Red Cedar is light, weighing 330–390 kg/m³.
  • Thermal properties: Wood generally is an excellent thermal insulator, but Western Red Cedar has a particularly good insulation value because of its low wood density.
  • Acoustic properties: Western Red Cedar is particularly effective when used as interior panelling to dampen vibrations and absorb sound.
  • Kiln-dried: Select Premium Clear Vertical Grain Western Red Cedar is kiln-dried, giving it many advantages. The process improves dimensional stability, permits the immediate application of a coating, and enables installation with minimal site acclimatisation.
  • Grading: Select Premium Clear Vertical Grain is produced from the highest specification Western Red Cedar available. The wood fibre is fine-grained, coastal grown, virtually knot free No. 2 Clear & Better grade (No. 4 Clear not permitted). It is specially selected to ensure every piece is vertical grain, and every piece is heartwood. No flat grain or sapwood is allowed, making it an excellent wood cladding material, in terms of both appearance and performance.
  • Sourcing/ certification: Select Premium Clear Vertical Grain Western Red Cedar is sourced from the most sustainably managed forests in the world in British Columbia, Canada, and comes with PEFC certification.
  • Factory coating: Protects the wood from the damaging effects of moisture and ultra violet light (U.V.) and to curb the growth of surface mould that may cause black staining. Two high-performance coating systems available: Sansin SDF™ and Sansin WoodForce™.
