Application

The Knauf GIFAfloor FHB Hollow Floor Pedestal System is designed for commercial, residential and high-performance environments where durability, fire safety, and accessibility are essential.

Typical Applications

  • Lift lobbies – strong, durable surface with direct finish application.
  • Car showrooms – high load-bearing capacity with premium continuous finishes.
  • Airport lobbies and concourses – suitable for heavy traffic with robust acoustic performance.
  • High-rise buildings – non-combustible A1 panels for compliance with modern safety standards.
  • Office buildings – adaptable raised floor system with integrated void access.
  • Washrooms and toilet pods – moisture-tolerant substrate for ceramic or porcelain finishes.
  • Alternative to standard RAF systems – allows continuous finishes including sensitive finishes - which can be applied directly with the need for a separating layer.

Description

The Knauf GIFAfloor FHB Hollow Floor Pedestal System is a structural raised flooring solution that combines the benefits of dry screed technology with the versatility of a fully accessible hollow floor. Installed directly onto adjustable pedestals, the system provides a robust and sustainable substrate for continuous finishes such as stone, porcelain, and micro cement, while allowing partial access to the void beneath.

Material Composition

Panels are manufactured from gypsum fibreboard (calcium sulphate), using a blend of:

  • Recycled paper fibres
  • Natural gypsum
  • Flue gas desulphurised (FGD) gypsum

This process creates A1 non-combustible panels, delivering fire safety and durability, while maintaining a low embodied carbon footprint.

Manufacturing Process

GIFAfloor panels are pressed to optimum density through a lamination process, resulting in a dimensionally stable, inherently strong product. Tongue and groove edge profiles ensure secure interlocking, creating monolithic floors with excellent load-bearing performance.

Performance Benefits

  • Load-bearing gypsum fibre panels with high strength and stability.
  • A1 non-combustible fire rating, ensuring compliance with stringent building safety regulations.
  • Dimensional stability reduces risk of warping or movement.
  • Direct finish compatibility – suitable for natural stone, ceramics, porcelain, or micro cement, without the need for de-coupling layers.
  • Acoustic performance – high density improves airborne and impact sound insulation.
  • Thermal conductivity – “thermally transparent,” making it ideal for underfloor heating.
  • Quick installation – walkable within hours, unlike traditional wet screeds.
  • Access integration – frames and panels can be incorporated for void access.
  • Environmental credentials – EPD certified, manufactured from highly recycled content, low embodied carbon, Eurofins Indoor Air Quality Gold certified, and Red List Free.
  • End of life recyclability – 100% recyclable panels.
  • Building lifetime warranty for assurance of performance.

System Flexibility

  • Adjustable pedestal range: 19.5 mm – 1425 mm voids.
  • Provides the benefits of raised flooring where continuous finishes are required, avoiding the need for conventional RAF panels.

Also available to specify as a load bearing screed panel without pedestals - Knauf GIFAfloor FHB Self-Supporting System (for use with CLT, cradle & batten, or joists).
