Specialist fast drying screed with a completed drying time of only 7 days with a Underfloor Heating Commissioning protocol of just 4 days. Guaranteed savings with quality and performance guaranteed.
Application

Floor screed additive suitable for permanently wet areas, as water impervious. For internal and external use.

Can be used as a wearing screed, and holds full third party certification.

Retanol EKA BW Pro 1

Key performance benefits:

  • Guaranteed drying times: 7, 14, or 21 days depending on dosage.
  • Up to CT-C35-F5.
  • Foot traffic after 24 hours.
  • Underfloor heating can be run after 2 to 4 days (depending on dosage as per PCT Guidelines).
  • Early compressive and flexural strength.
  • Very low tension so shrinkage cracks are minimal.
  • Ideal for underfloor heating with improved thermal conductivity – a minimum of 35 mm coverage is required on top of the UFH pipe.
  • Extended working life with short drying time.
  • Insensitive to moisture, therefore suitable for permanently wet areas.
  • For internal and external use.
  • Bonded screeds from 25 mm.
  • Unbonded and floating screeds from 35 mm.
  • CE Certified and safe to use - All Retanol products are CE Certified (Conformité Européenne) and carry the CE stamp. They also fully satisfy German DIN Standards (Deutsches Institut für Normung - German Institute for Standardization) and Retanol has the prestigious TUV Rheinland Certification (see attached) which means it is the only screed additive recognised under European law as having no negative impact on human health when handled or added into a floor screed.

Retanol EKA BW dosage per screed pump mix

When using a 250 litres standard screed pump vessel, a minimum of 2 bags i.e. 50 kg of cement is required for the mix designs stated below.

Dosage (5 pump fillings are assumed at 200 litres each, amounting to 1 m³).

  • 350 ml of RETANOL EKA BW per screed pump mix for 7 day drying – i.e. 1.75 litres per m³.

The importance of good quality sharp screeding sand with a well distributed grading curve.

The importance of the sand “grading curve” cannot be understated when mixing any semi dry cementitious screed.

The grading curve shows the particle sizes of the sand/gravel used in the mixing process, and a favourable grain distribution is crucial is creating the perfect screed.

In the UK, we generally work to a 0-4 mm grading curve which means the diameter of the grain sizes will vary from 0 to 4 mm.

In order to create a solid support framework for Retanol screed, the ratio between fine sand and coarser sand in the grading curve should be between 60% to 70% fines (which means a nice consistent spread of 0 to 2 mm grains) and 30% to 40% coarser sand (which means a nice consistent spread of grains with a diameter of >2 mm to 4 mm).

Cements approved for use with Retanol EKA BW

  1. Type: Portland cements – CEM I, or Portland composite cements – CEM II (for example A-L, A-LL, B-L, B-LL).
  2. Class: 32.5 N + R/42.5 N + R (note that 52.5 is less suitable for screeds due to its higher strength which can increase the risk of cracking and deformation).
  3. Quality: Use standardized and QC-monitored cements.
