Wecryl Waterproofing System in a Buried Roof Application

OVERVIEW

The Duke of York Restaurant is an award-winning restaurant which is located in the largely Grade II-listed Duke of York Square. The project champions the best of modern design in harmony with it’s heritage and surroundings. The restaurant includes a circular roof terrace, which is open to the public and the UK’s first innovative glass façade which will lower into a single storey basement during fine weather to allow for al fresco dining.

Background: Wecryl PMMA rapid curing products were chosen by the architect to waterproof the steps leading up to the public terrace, the public terrace, a small roof area containing M&E and the lift core roof.

The Solution: Wecryl 230 liquid applied waterproofing was applied to the entrance steps, the public terrace and the different roof areas. For added protection to the waterproofing membrane, the stair treads and the section of M&E roof, was overcoated Wecryl 233 wearing layers. A quartz sand broadcast and Wecryl 288 sealer coat provided a skid inhibiting and robust finish. For an aesthetically pleasing look, the lift core roof had Wecryl 288 sealer coat applied in white RAL 9003 with a Deco Chip broadcast finish. Where threaded bar pentrated the membrane to the risers on the entrance steps, Weseal 815 Fibre Putty was utilised to waterproof this detail.

The Benefits: A key decision behind Wecryl waterproofing being used was it’s self-terminating properties and the variety of purposes and finishes that could be achieved to satisfy the building’s and client’s requirements. Wecryl 230 provideda a fully-bonded seamless waterproofing membrane. The additional protective wearing layer will homogenise to provide one seamless elastomeric hard-wearing membrane.
