Thomas Alleyne School

OVERVIEW

Thomas Alleyne School is a well-established secondary school with a strong academic focus. In August 2020, as part of a refurbishment and upgrade initiative, the school required state-of-the-art science labs that were safe, durable, and easy to maintain.

Contractor: BJC Property Maintenance

Benchmark FF&E Solutions manufactured and installed all fitted furniture for the new science laboratories at Thomas Alleyne School. The project focused on creating a high-performance, hygienic, and durable learning environment to meet the rigorous demands of science education. Emphasis was placed on functionality, easy maintenance, and high resistance to chemical exposure. This was delivered hassle-free, snag-free, and with full project management support. The project specification includes:

  • Neutral, professional finishes to promote a clean and focused learning environment.
  • Robust cabinetry constructed from Egger P2 particleboard and moisture-resistant MDF.
  • Durable solid grade laminate worktops suitable for regular contact with chemicals.
  • Laboratory-standard sinks and taps selected for both functionality and safety.
  • All installations delivered OTIF and to a high-quality standard.

Implementation

Benchmark FF&E worked as a subcontractor with BJC Property Maintenance to coordinate furniture delivery and installation in line with construction timelines. Our team provided project management support throughout to ensure every detail met expectations.

  • Cabinetry & Doors: Installed 18mm Egger P2 furniture-grade carcasses with a Platinum White melamine finish and ABS edging. Doors were made from 18mm moisture-resistant MDF with matching laminate surfaces, ensuring strength, hygiene, and longevity.
  • Worksurfaces: Fitted 16mm Trespa Toplab Base solid grade laminate worktops in Speckled White. These surfaces offer exceptional resistance to chemicals, stains, and physical wear, making them ideal for science lab use.
  • Sinks & Taps: Equipped with Simmons epoxy resin laboratory sinks and chemically resistant waste systems. High Grade water and gas taps were specified to ensure compliance with specialist laboratory requirements.

Result

The project was delivered to a high standard, on schedule. Key outcomes included:

  • Safe, Functional Labs: All fixtures and fittings were designed with durability, hygiene, and laboratory safety in mind.
  • Snag-Free Completion: A smooth installation process ensured there were no outstanding issues on handover.
  • Project Management Support: Benchmark provided ongoing coordination to support the contractor and meet the school’s needs throughout.
  • Long-Term Durability: With premium materials like Trespa and epoxy sinks, the science labs are built to withstand heavy use.

Benchmark FF&E is proud to have delivered another hassle-free, high-quality project that enhances the educational experience at Thomas Alleyne School.
