Pennington Wharf

OVERVIEW

Taylor Wimpey have described the Pennington Wharf project as a regeneration scheme which has transformed the former Bickershaw Colliery in Leigh, Wigan from a vacant, overgrown site, into an attractive new community where people want to live alongside the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.

Taylor Wimpey, the developer appointed by Wigan Council, go on to say that the Pennington Wharf site has grown out of a former colliery, providing a mixed-use scheme including 471 new family homes which is supported by employment uses in the form of offices, café, and a marina. These alongside with the new community centre hope that the facility will provide a hub and central space for the community residents to use for events or meetings for the years to come.

The site prides itself on its sustainability credentials which Taylor Wimpey believe are some of the best in the North West with the development, being awarded a CEEQUAL award for a pioneering design and in assisting to achieve this, the Ansell Lighting Lynx LED Wallpack fitting has been selected and installed on one of the community hubs. The fitting is a robust wall mounted luminaire for general accent illumination and features a die-cast aluminium body with a vandal resistant polycarbonate Fresnel lens diffuser. Available in a 29-Watt version, it utilises a Tridonic LED Driver and is offered in both Warm white and Cool white. For added security the Lynx LED Wallpack is supplied with Tamper-proof Allen key screws as standard and for ease of use it is designed with multiple conduit entry and BESA box fixing points. The Lynx LED Wallpack comes with a range of additional options which include an electronic photocell and integral microwave sensor options to facilitate energy saving benefits. An integral emergency version is also available which provides downward illumination with a beam angle of 60°.

This luminaire provides an ideal solution for this project, which offers environment improvement to a vacant site, the benefits of sustainability and re-establishes the focus towards community led projects which involves the community throughout the development process, for which Ansell Lighting were most pleased to be involved in, especially as the company’s head office, factory and warehouse location is just a few miles from the site, within the borough of Wigan.
