Mix and Match Solution for Global IT Firm

OVERVIEW

CGI is a global IT and business consulting firm that partners with governments and industries to deliver a broad range of digital services. With offices across the world and a growing team at its Bridgend site, the company commissioned Cardiff-based, renowned design and build practice, Powell., to expand capacity by converting existing rooms into new open plan, sound-absorbing office space and meeting areas featuring 200 additional call centre workstations.

Made in Belgium flooring solutions

For floors within the new area, Powell. recommended our made in Belgium flooring solutions, putting forward a mix of carpet tiles and luxury vinyl tiles. Through a series of design meetings, Powell. worked directly with the client to create a flooring scheme using Creative Spark, Expansion Point and Rudiments Basalt carpet tiles, along with Moduleo 40 Midland Oak luxury vinyl tiles.

Chelsea Williams, one of Powell.’s designers, was responsible for the specification process:

“The Canadian company has several overseas offices, dotted all over the world. Over many years, it has developed contracts with preferred suppliers and now works with Powell. on a range of projects of varying scales across multiple sites.

“Powell. had not previously specified IVC Commercial for CGI works, but having developed a good relationship, we were confident that it was the right flooring for the application. Both CGI and Powell. were pleased with the results, and I’m personally sure that we’ll be calling on IVC Commercial again for other schemes across CGI sites in the future, as well as other clients of course.”

Mix and match carpet tiles

The dark grey of Creative Spark 989 provides dominant cover in the open plan space and references other CGI offices. The organic design of Rudiments Basalt 363 – a striking red colourway – allows for a border and walkway throughout the open plan office space as well as a feature strip in meeting rooms. Expansion Point has then been used in a matching red (363) as zone separation for desking areas and in dark grey (987) as the main floor finish in meeting rooms.

The scheme perfectly demonstrates the ability to mix and match different designs from IVC Commercial’s carpet tile collection. Bringing a coordinated look while supporting zoning and navigation, the affordable carpet tiles are all made from solution-dyed nylon to provide long-term durability and easy maintenance.

Café culture

In the main café for the new office space, Powell. and CGI specified Moduleo 40 Midland Oak 22929 luxury vinyl tiles. A classic oak effect in a complimentary grey to the surrounding carpet tiles, Midland Oak comes with a large pattern to avoid tell-tale repeats and achieve a more natural looking floor. Finished with Protectonite®, it’s also scratch and stain-resistance and easy to clean – ideal for the busy café area.

The confidence of design and quality

“We showed IVC Commercial products to the client as we had confidence in the design, quality and affordability of its flooring solutions, as well as knowing that the company is so environmentally minded, which is as important to Powell. as it is to CGI. Working with IVC Commercial makes it easy for us to get the information required, samples are always delivered promptly, and the client benefits enormously from the product.”

Chelsea Williams, Powell.
