St Matthew’s estate in Brixton was a grey, crime ridden housing development constructed in the late 1960’s when two social landlords were brought on board by Lambeth council to remodel the estate. The redevelopment included 12 new zero energy homes for shared ownership which went on to win the Low Energy Building of the Year Awards in 2006.
