Ferrari World, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi

OVERVIEW

Tensile Fabric ‘Fins’:

As the world’s largest indoor theme park, Ferrari World offers 20 attractions, including the worlds fastest roller coaster. The Landmark building spans 200,000m2 with the exterior taking its design cues from the classic Ferrari GT. Fabric Architecture was commissioned to design, engineer, manufacture & supply 2,063 bespoke interior fabric feature – wall mounted fabric ‘fins’.

The Challenge:

Design expertise was combined with local specialist knowledge to develop a new and innovative solution for delivering 2,063, unique tensile fabric fins. Managing a project of this scale required an expert team of Prince2 Project Managers, Designers and Engineers working full time for nearly a year.

The Solution:

The specially designed fins are mounted to every internal façade and represent cooling fins on a Ferrari engine. They vary in size from 5m to over 20m and are constructed from extruded, formed and painted aluminium. Each frame is clad in a tensioned Silicone Coated Glass acoustic fabric. Over 100K of extruded aluminium, 50K of extruded plastic and 45,000m2 of fabric was used in their manufacture.
