OVERVIEW
ITP vapour control layers support major university development programme
ITP’s advanced vapour control layers have been used as part of a major development plan at Bournemouth University, where a multi-million-pound investment in new facilities is supporting and enhancing the learning and working environment for students and staff.
The Estates team has rolled out a wide-ranging construction programme in the past few years, creating new learning spaces, amenities and infrastructure to support the realisation of Bournemouth University’s corporate strategy and vision, BU2025. Recent developments include the new Poole Gateway Building providing high-quality technical facilities to support undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as research.
Comprising 5,000 square metre, Poole Gateway Building houses the latest professional-level facilities featuring two multi-camera TV studios equipped with 4K cameras, a film studio and sound stage, music studios, a cinema, edit suites, sound suites, green screen and motion capture studios for animation. The building features carbon-reduction measures designed to achieve BREEAM ‘excellent’ certification in line with the university’s commitment to sustainability.
VCL 250, one of ITP’s range of high-performance vapour control layers, was supplied for the university’s latest development work via the Newmarket branch of Encon, the UK’s leading independent distributor of thermal and acoustic insulation, interior systems, fire protection, construction products, roofing and external façade materials. Essex-based roofing experts, Prestige Industrial Roofing, installed the system to ensure that the building envelope is sealed to control ventilation, prevent heat loss and protect insulation from interstitial condensation. Suitable for roof, wall and floor installations, VCL 250 is manufactured from reinforced polyethylene with high tensile scrim reinforcement.
Bournemouth University continues to invest in its facilities with major development projects. The new Bournemouth Gateway Building comprises 10,000 square metres of space which is the new home for the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. The construction of the university’s Arne House building will provide teaching and staff facilities for the Faculty of Science and Technology, expected to be open for use during the 2024/25 academic year.
